Canada PR is a Punjabi play written, directed, and produced by Nitu Sharma. Blending drama and comedy, the play explores the lived experiences of immigration to Canada and the sacrifices made in pursuit of a better future. Through the stories of those who leave their homes and families behind, the play examines how the dreams associated with migration can become complicated and, at times, shattered by the realities of life in Canada. It explores the personal sacrifices that migrants make, the weight of separation from loved ones, and the struggle to maintain a sense of belonging while building a new life. At its heart, Canada Di PR asks important questions about what it means to leave home, family, and community behind in search of a better future. The play questions what is gained and lost along the way. The play is produced and performed by people who themselves came to Canada as immigrants and have experienced the realities of working and living in precarious employment and immigration status. Their lived experiences bring an authenticity and depth to the stories portrayed on stage.
