Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques 2025 : Kafka’s Insect

Présenté dans l’atmosphère englobante de la Satosphère de la SAT et inspiré du célèbre récit de Franz Kafka La métamorphose, ce spectacle immersif à 360° met en vedette deux artistes maltais, la pianiste Tricia Dawn Williams et le compositeur Ruben Zahra. Kafka’s Insect est une performance multimédia de Ruben Zahra inspirée du roman de Franz Kafka La Métamorphose, publié en 1915. Un cycle de scènes d’art vidéo présente l’histoire, accompagnée d’un piano en direct et de synthétiseurs analogiques modulaires, notamment le Moog Mother 32. Au cours de cette production, le récit suit les sections du roman qui mettent en scène des sons, tels qu’une fiole de laboratoire qui se brise sur le sol, la pluie qui s’abat sur les vitres, des pommes lancées contre le mur, etc. L’accessibilité du spectacle transcende les mots grâce au langage universel des images, du son et de la musique. La plupart des séquences de Kafka’s Insect ont été tournées avec l’objectif Daguerreotype Achromat de 1838. Cet objectif vintage capture une lumière douce avec des arrière-plans texturés lors de la mise au point, contribuant ainsi à l’esthétique unique de cette production.

Kafka’s Insect is a multimedia performance by Ruben Zahra based on Franz Kafka’s novel The Metamorphosis, published in 1915. A cycle of video art scenes present the story, accompanied by live piano and modular analog synthesizers with a focus on the Moog Mother 32. In this production the narrative follows those sections in the novel that portray sound, such as a medicinal glass vial shattering on the floor, rain pelting against the window panes, apples hurled against the wall, etc. The accessibility of the performance transcends the spoken word through the universal language of images, sound and music. Most of the footage for Kafka’s Insect was shot with the Daguerreotype Achromat lens from 1838. This vintage lens captures an illuminous soft focus with rich textured backgrounds, contributing to the unique aesthetic of this production.
