Symphonic Piano: Kevin Chen at Salle Pierre-Mercure

Born in 2005, pianist Kevin Chen won first prize in the Canadian Music Competition and first prize in the Royal Conservatory of Music’s ARCT examination at the age of 8. At age 9, he was recognized by CBC as one of “Canada’s 30 Most Promising Classical Musicians Under 30” and as one of “100 Outstanding Canadians” by Maclean’s.

He attracts international attention with a string of first prizes: Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition (2023), Geneva Competition (2022), Franz Liszt International Piano Competition (2021), where he is the youngest ever competitor and winner, and Mozart International Piano Competition (2020).

At 18, Kevin Chen is also an accomplished composer, with over a hundred works to his credit, including a piano concerto and four complete symphonies for orchestra.

Né en 2005, Kevin Chen, pianiste, remporte, à 8 ans, le premier prix au Concours de musique du Canada et le premier prix à l’examen ARCT du Royal Conservatory of Music. À 9 ans, il est reconnu par la CBC comme l’un des «30 musiciens classiques canadiens les plus prometteurs de moins de 30 ans « et comme l’un des « 100 Canadiens remarquables » par le Maclean’s. 

Il retient l’attention sur la scène internationale en enchaînant les premiers prix: Concours international de piano Arthur Rubinstein (2023), Concours de Genève (2022), Concours international de piano Franz Liszt (2021), où il est le plus jeune concurrent et lauréat de l’histoire, ainsi que Concours international de piano Mozart (2020).

À 18 ans, Kevin Chen est aussi un compositeur accompli, avec plus d’une centaine d’œuvres à son actif, notamment un concerto pour piano et quatre symphonies complètes pour orchestre.
