Établie dans les années 90, Misstress Barbara (jeu de mots entre Miss et Stress) est une DJ/Productrice pionnière et l’une des premières femmes DJ superstar qui a contribué à inspirer les générations futures avec ses sets techno explosifs. Tout en étant la tête d’affiche de festivals et d’événements majeurs dans le monde entier, elle a connu une période, dans les années 2000, où elle était régulièrement élue dans le Top 100 des DJ de DJ Mag.

Established in the 90s, Misstress Barbara (word play between Miss and Stress) is a pioneering DJ/Producer and one of the first female superstar DJs who helped inspire future generations with her explosive Techno sets. Whilst headlining major festivals and events globally, there was a period in the ’00s when she was consistently voted inside of DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs.(Misstress Barbara)

Manu fusionne un mélange intriguant de sons pour créer sa propre signature sonore, rapide, groovy et rafraîchissante. Dès son plus jeune âge, Emmanuel s’est intéressé de près à la musique électronique. Formant une forte connexion avec elle, il a rapidement réalisé son rêve de faire danser les gens. Passé par l’exploration de différents univers artistiques, Emmanuel s’est trouvé en tant qu’artiste musical et cherche à se distinguer par son authenticité afin d’offrir un son unique. Basé à Montréal, le compositeur franco-canadien n’a qu’une idée en tête : que son amour pur et sa passion pour la musique se répandent sur les pistes de danse.

Manu fuses an intriguing blend of sounds to create his very own swift, groovy, and refreshing signature sound. Already from a very young age, Emmanuel took a keen interest in electronic music. Forming a strong connection with it, he quickly realized his dream of making people dance. Having gone through an exploration of different artistic universes, Emmanuel found himself as a musical artist and aims to distinguish himself by his authenticity in order to offer a unique sound. Tiny Fest à la Casa del Popolo : Deer Scout, Westelaken et Sophie Ogilvie

Deer Scout

Élevé par deux musiciens folk à Yonkers, Miller a commencé à enregistrer des chansons sous le nom de Deer Scout lors de sa première année d’université à Philadelphie. C’est là que iel a écrit la première chanson de Woodpecker, « Synesthesia », qui parle d’un trajet en train pour rentrer chez soi après un spectacle en sous-sol. Après le transfert de Miller à l’Oberlin College, Deer Scout a commencé à tourner dans des salles DIY à travers le pays et à partager la scène avec des artistes favoris tels que Waxahatchee et Told Slant. L’intimité et la complexité de ces deux influences se reflètent dans les arrangements soigneusement aventureux de Woodpecker, qui comprend, entre autres, la basse de Ko Takasugi-Czernowin, un proche collaborateur, le violoncelle de Zuzia Weyman, la batterie de Madel Rafter et la guitare de Mark, le père de Miller.

Raised by two folk musicians in Yonkers, Miller began recording songs as Deer Scout their freshman year of college in Philadelphia. There, they wrote Woodpecker’s earliest song “Synesthesia” about a train ride home from a basement show: “Night in the city / Big house on the corner / Her voice has the timbre of summers ago,” recalls Miller resonantly. After Miller’s transfer to Oberlin College, Deer Scout began touring DIY venues around the country and sharing stages with favorite artists including Waxahatchee and Told Slant. The twinned intimacy and intricacy of those two influences is reflected in the carefully adventurous arrangements on Woodpecker, which features, among other contributors, bass from close collaborator Ko Takasugi-Czernowin, cello from Zuzia Weyman, drums from Madel Rafter, and guitar from Miller’s father Mark. Sur Crocus, le changement est toujours en cours. Le premier EP de l’artiste montréalaise Sophie Ogilvie raconte comment une saison passe à la suivante, comment une relation se résout en quelque chose de disparu. S’inspirant du jazz, du R&B et de la musique alternative des années 90, l’écriture de Sophie Ogilvie est à la fois cool et vulnérable, douce et percutante, délicate et dramatique.

On Coming Up, Crocus, change is always already in motion. The debut EP from Montreal artist Sophie Ogilvie chronicles how one season passes into the next, how a relationship resolves itself into something gone. John Roseboro

Cet auteur-compositeur-interprète et artiste visuel haïtien-américain, basé à Brooklyn, s’est fait un nom sur la scène indie, redéfinissant et innovant le genre à travers les côtes. S’inspirant de Gilberto et Jobim, le style post-bossa de Roseboro présente d’autres similitudes avec les plus grands, dans la mesure où sa musique se concentre sur la justice personnelle et sociale, abordant des concepts majeurs tels que les droits de l’homme, l’amour et la religion. La musique de Roseboro a été décrite comme  » la musique qui guérira le monde… impossible d’être indifférent, tant au niveau de la voix que de l’âme « .

The Haitian-American, Brooklyn based, singer-songwriter and visual artist has been making a name for himself in the indie scene, redefining and innovating the genre up and down the coasts. Building off of the likes of Gilberto and Jobim, Roseboro’s post-bossa style carries other similarities to the greats in that his music focuses on personal and social justice, undertaking major concepts such as human rights, love, and religion. Pataugeoire

Pataugeoire, le périmètre d’Agathe Dupéré (Safia Nolin, Pomme, Sophia Bel, Embo/phlébite), baigne dans la scène musicale québécoise depuis une demi-décennie. Sa guitare “chaleur-et-coup-de-soleil” et ses mélodies hypercubiques lui servent à transgresser les limites des jeux qu’elle fixe. Fortement inspirée du emo, du grunge et pop-punk des années 1990 et 2000 (The Pixies, Blonde Redhead, (Sandy) Alex G, Simple Plan, Juliana Hatfield) pataugeoire oeuvre dans un folk alternatif à l’écriture dense, volatile et ludique.

Pataugeoire, the perimeter of Agathe Dupéré (Safia Nolin, Pomme, Sophia Bel, Embo/phlébite), has been immersed in the Quebec music scene for half a decade. Her « warm-and-sunny » guitar and hypercubic melodies help her transgress the limits of the games she sets. Puisant leur influence dans la même scène fertile du pub rock australien qui a donné naissance à tout le monde, d’AC/DC et The Saints à Cosmic Psychos et The Hard Ons, et partageant une approche singulière et autonome de leur art avec des héros du rock australien de la dernière heure comme King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, The Chats se décrivent eux-mêmes comme des « dropkick drongos de la Sunshine Coast d’Australie ».

Formed in their mate’s bong shed in Coolum, Queensland 2016 at age seventeen, The Chats represent everything that’s good about Australia and nothing that’s bad: a rebel spirit, gallows humour and the endless hedonistic pursuit of A Bloody Good Time.

Drawing influence from the same fertile Australian pub rock scene that spawned everyone from AC/DC and The Saints to Cosmic Psychos and The Hard Ons, and sharing a similar singular self-contained approach to their art as such latter-day Aussie rock heroes as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, The Chats describe themselves as “dropkick drongos from the Sunshine Coast of Australia”.

TV Girl au Théâtre Beanfield

En apparence, TV Girl est un mélange ensoleillé de pop française des années 60 et de soul du sud de la Californie. Pourtant, sous ce vernis brillant se cache un cœur sombre, battant avec un esprit acéré et une aliénation cynique, et la musique n’en est que plus séduisante. TV Girl, composé de Brad Petering, Jason Wyman et Wyatt Harmon, a été formé en 2010 par Petering comme un exutoire pour mélanger l’amour de la pop de girl-group à la Spector avec un intérêt naissant pour le hip-hop. En 2014, TV Girl a dévoilé son premier album complet, French Exit, acclamé par la critique. L’album reste fidèle au charme de TV Girl avec une multitude d’échantillonnages électroniques infusés dans des guitares légères et aériennes, des orgues vrombissantes et des voix éthérées.

On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ‘60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation, and the music is all the more alluring for it. TV Girl, composed of Brad Petering, Jason Wyman, and Wyatt Harmon, was formed in 2010 by Petering as an outlet to blend the love of Spector-esque girl-group pop with an emerging interest in hip-hop. In 2014, TV Girl unveiled their first full-length, the critically acclaimed French Exit. The album keeps true to the TV Girl charm with a bevy of electronic samplings infused throughout light and airy guitars, whirring organs, and ethereal vocals.

Le titre du nouvel album de Barns Courtney sera sans doute familier à tous ceux qui ont déjà cherché quelque chose en ligne et qui ont abouti à un résultat nul. Mais 404 est un album qui explore les sentiments de perte et d’abandon inspirés par l’habitude qu’a la vie d’afficher ses propres pages d’erreur. Barns explore l’absence, la frustration et la recherche sans fin de quelque chose qui semblait toujours être là jusqu’à ce qu’un jour, soudainement, ce ne soit plus le cas : son enfance. « Il est douloureux de savoir que quelque chose a disparu, qu’il s’agisse d’un bon moment, d’un bon sentiment, d’une partie agréable de l’existence ou de quelque chose de physique. Je me demande toujours : si vous deviez revenir en arrière et retrouver les endroits que vous avez connus dans votre enfance, à quoi ressembleraient-ils ? dit Barns.

The title of Barns Courtney’s new album will no doubt be familiar to anyone who’s ever searched for something online and found themselves face to face with nothing. But 404 is an album that explores feelings of loss and bereftness inspired by life’s habit of throwing up its own error pages, with Barns exploring absence, frustration, and the never-ending search for something that seemed like it would always be there until one day, suddenly, it wasn’t: his childhood. “It’s painful knowing that something has gone, whether it’s a good time, a good feeling, a pleasant section of existence, or something physical. I’m always wondering: if you were to go back and find places you knew as a child, what would they look like?” Barns says.

Enregistrées avec le chevronné producteur Renaud Letang (Feist, Keren Ann, Charlotte Gainsbourg, etc.) et sous l’aile bienveillante de Chilly Gonzales (reconnu pour la touche intimiste de ses albums Solo Piano et ses collaborations avec Jarvis Cocker, Feist, Drake ou encore Daft Punk), ces nouvelles pièces marquent un tournant pour l’auteure-compositrice-interprète accomplie dont la voix puissante laisse percer de douloureuses fêlures.

Having established herself in a few years as one of the most flamboyant figures in the contemporary music, the American singer and pianist Sarah McCoy is back with her new album HIGH PRIESTESS.

Saxophoniste, compositrice et chef d’orchestre basée à Montréal, Christine Jensen a voyagé partout dans le monde avec sa musique.

Honorée du prix Oscar Peterson en 2017 au Festival international de Jazz, elle a aussi été récipiendaire, entre autres, de deux prix Juno pour ses enregistrements avec son orchestre de jazz.

Cette année, elle est de retour avec un nouveau projet dans une formule quartet, entourée de trois musiciens de talent : Steve Amirault (piano), Adrian Vedady (contrebasse) et Jim Doxas (batterie). Le Christine Jensen Quartet a sorti son nouvel album Day Moon le 16 juin 2023 sous l’étiquette Justin Time Records.

Montreal-based saxophonist, composer and conductor Christine Jensen has traveled the world with her music.

Honored with the Oscar Peterson Award in 2017 at the International Jazz Festival, she was also the recipient of two Juno Awards for her recordings with her jazz orchestra.

This year, she is back with a new project in a quartet formula, surrounded by three talented musicians: Steve Amirault (piano), Adrian Vedady (double bass), and Jim Doxas (drums). The Christine Jensen Quartet released its new album Day Moon on June 16, 2023, under the label Justin Time Records.

Les membres de l’élite du jazz montréalais qui participent à ces derniers sont Jean-Nicolas Trottier, trombone, Jonathan Cayer, piano, Sébastien Pellerin, contrebasse, Alain Bourgeois, batterie, et, Annie Dominique, saxophone ténor, clarinette basse et flûte traversière, qui signe la composition et les arrangements de toutes les pièces.

L’interprétation et la technique des instrumentistes sont sans pareil. Le regroupement de ces musiciens ayant chacun une carrière florissante donne une personnalité particulière à chacune des pièces et transmet une émotion forte grâce à leur jeu délicat et précis. Un jazz moderne songeur et rêveur, empreint d’une belle maturité et d’une sensibilité déconcertante.

OFF Jazz | Bogdan Dumenyok au Dièse Onze

Le programme comprend des arrangements de chansons folkloriques ukrainiennes, ainsi que de la musique originale de Bogdan Gumenyuk. Il présentera des instruments traditionnels ukrainiens – la sopilka, la plate-forme et le trembita – et les présentera dans des cadres de jazz. La musique est inspirée et dédiée à son pays natal, l’Ukraine.

The program consists of arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs, as well as original music by Bogdan Gumenyuk. It will feature traditional Ukrainian instruments – the sopilka, the rig, and the trembita — and showcase them in jazz settings. The music is inspired by, and dedicated to, his native country, Ukraine.
