Yves Tumor est le pseudonyme du producteur et auteur-compositeur-interprète américain Sean Bowie. Après s’être établi un peu partout aux États-Unis, il s’installe pour de bon à Turin, en Italie. Sa musique est parfois qualifiée de art-rock expérimental ou de post-chillwave. Tumor s’associe fréquemment à des artistes comme Mykki Blanco, Kelsey Lu, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) ou encore James Ferraro, toustes dans la mouvance alternative des genres qu’iels explorent.

Yves Tumor is the pseudonym of American producer and singer-songwriter Sean Bowie. After establishing himself throughout the United States, he settled in Turin, Italy for good. His music is sometimes referred to as experimental art-rock or post-chillwave. Tumor frequently joins forces with artists such as Mykki Blanco, Kelsey Lu, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) and James Ferraro, all of whom are part of the alternative movement of the genres they explore.

Metronomy au MTELUS

Mené par le multi-instrumentiste et producteur Joseph Mount, Metronomy est passé d’un projet secondaire lo-fi à l’un des groupes les plus créatifs mélangeant le rock et la musique électronique. S’inspirant d’influences allant de Devo et David Bowie à N.E.R.D. et Pavement, Mount a fait de Metronomy un groupe aussi accrocheur qu’imprévisible avec l’album Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe), sorti en 2006. Les albums suivants du projet, comme The English Riviera, nommé pour le prix Mercury en 2011, étaient plus doux et plus sophistiqués, mais incorporaient toujours des éléments inattendus, allant des hommages à la Motown et à la blue-eyed soul de Love Letters en 2014 au rétro-futurisme de Metronomy Forever en 2019. Avec des projets comme Posse EP, Vol. 1 de 2021, inspiré par le hip-hop, et la pop faussement ensoleillée de Small World de 2022, Mount a continué à repousser les limites créatives de Metronomy tout en gardant ses mélodies pleines d’esprit, son écriture et sa production au premier plan.

Led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Joseph Mount, Metronomy has grown from a scrappy, lo-fi side project into one of the more creative acts mixing rock and electronic music. Drawing on influences ranging from Devo and David Bowie to N.E.R.D. and Pavement, Mount established Metronomy as an equally catchy and unpredictable act with 2006’s Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe). The project’s later albums, such as 2011’s Mercury Prize-nominated The English Riviera, were smoother and more sophisticated, but still incorporated unexpected elements that ranged from the Motown and blue-eyed soul homages of 2014’s Love Letters to the retro-futurism of 2019’s Metronomy Forever. With projects like 2021’s hip-hop-inspired Posse EP, Vol. 1 and the deceptively sunny pop of 2022’s Small World, Mount continued to push Metronomy’s creative boundaries while keeping his witty melodies, songwriting, and production at the forefront.

M83 est un groupe français originaire d’Antibes, créé en 1999 par les multi-instrumentistes Anthony Gonzalez et Nicolas Fromageau. Après la tournée de Dead Cities, Red Seas et Lost Ghosts, Nicolas Fromageau quitte le projet en 2004. Le groupe est désormais basé à Los Angeles (Californie), en raison de sa forte popularité aux États-Unis. M83 propose une musique dream-pop infusée de synthétiseurs.

Placebo est un groupe de rock alternatif britannique, originaire de Londres, en Angleterre. Il est formé en 1994 par Brian Molko et Stefan Olsdal, qui sont d’abord accompagnés par Robert Schultzberg jusqu’en 1996, puis Steve Hewitt jusqu’en 2007, et Steve Forrest jusqu’en 2015.

Le style musical et les textes de Placebo se distinguent par une inclination romantique exacerbée. Autrefois allié à une imagerie provocante et excessive alimentant l’image sulfureuse du groupe, ce romantisme exubérant s’inscrit désormais dans une attitude plus introvertie. Opérant un changement progressif de son image et de sa musique, le groupe peut être affilié au punk rock pour ses débuts, puis au rock alternatif et à la power pop.

Placebo’s musical style and lyrics are distinguished by a heightened romantic inclination. S’inspirant du travail de pionniers d’artistes tels que Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire et Suicide, le sombre groupe avant-industriel Skinny Puppy s’est formé en 1982 à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique. À l’origine, il s’agissait d’un duo composé du batteur de Vogue, Kevin Key (né Kevin Crompton), et de Nivek Ogre (alias Kevin Ogilvie). Après leur première cassette, Back and Forth, Skinny Puppy a sorti en 1984 l’EP Remission, premier d’une longue série d’enregistrements réalisés avec le producteur David « Rave » Ogilvie.

Bombastic and lawless, 100 gecs is the stylistically eruptive project of producers Laura Les and Dylan Brady. The creative duo both incubated in St. Louis’ experimental electronic scene, but they began collaborating remotely by trading tracks online to come up with the genre-defying hyperpop maelstrom of their 2019 album 1000 gecs. In 2021, the pair issued the single « mememe » ahead of the arrival of their next long-player, 10,000 Gecs.

Leur nom est dérivé du meurtre non résolu d’Elizabeth Short en 1947, souvent appelé le Dahlia Noir. Le groupe est actuellement composé du chanteur Brian Eschbach, du bassiste Max Lavelle, du batteur Alan Cassidy et des guitaristes Brandon Ellis et Ryan Knight. The Black Dahlia Murder a connu plusieurs changements de groupe, Trevor Strnad et Eschbach restant les seuls membres constants, jusqu’à la mort du premier en 2022, qui a permis à Eschbach de reprendre le chant.

LaF au MTELUS

Mélange hétéroclite des plus authentique, LaF est un groupe de rap francophone originaire de Montréal qui rassemble trois rappeurs aux voix bien distinctes et trois concepteurs rythmiques. C’est en 2018 que les choses se concrétisent pour le groupe. Fort d’une très bonne réception pour leur second opus (le EP Jello), paru à la fin 2017, le groupe se voit aussi sélectionné parmi les 21 participants de la cuvée 2018 de l’estimé concours vitrine, Les Francouvertes. Après avoir trôné au premier rang du palmarès lors des trois étapes de la compétition, LaF se voit finalement couronné grand vainqueur des Francouvertes 2018. La suite déboule très rapidement pour la formation.

A motley mix of the most authentic, LaF is a francophone rap group from Montreal that brings together three rappers with distinct voices and three rhythmic designers. It’s in 2018 that things come to fruition for the group. With a very good reception for their second opus (the Jello EP), released at the end of 2017, the group was also selected as one of the 21 participants of the 2018 edition of the esteemed showcase competition, Les Francouvertes. After topping the charts at all three stages of the competition, LaF was finally crowned the grand winner of the 2018 Francouvertes. The next step is coming very quickly for the band.

Bikini Kill est un groupe punk féministe basé à Olympia, WA et Washington, DC, qui s’est formé en 1990 et s’est séparé en 1997. Kathleen Hanna chantait, Tobi Vail jouait de la batterie, Billy Karren (alias Billy Boredom) jouait de la guitare et Kathi Wilcox jouait de la basse. Parfois, ils changent d’instrument. Bikini Kill est considéré comme l’instigateur du mouvement Riot Grrrl au début des années 90 grâce à ses paroles politiques, ses zines et ses concerts conflictuels.

Bikini Kill is a feminist punk band that was based in Olympia, WA and Washington, DC, forming in 1990 and breaking up in 1997. Kathleen Hanna sang, Tobi Vail played drums, Billy Karren (a.k.a. Billy Boredom) played guitar and Kathi Wilcox played bass. Sometimes they switched instruments. Bikini Kill is credited with instigating the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 90’s via their political lyrics, zines and confrontational live show.
