Pako est un auteur-compositeur interprète originaire de la communauté atikamekw de Manawan (région de Lanaudière, Québec). Sur un folk-rock solide et maîtrisé, Pako interprète les textes qu’il écrit dans sa langue natale, l’atikamekw. Il y traite de sujets forts tels que l’importance de la langue, les valeurs et l’histoire de sa communauté, l’identité, l’environnement, les relations humaines et l’espoir d’une vie meilleure. Pako a participé à de nombreux spectacles et festivals prestigieux au Québec, Suisse et Australie. Guitariste de talent, il collabore aussi avec de nombreux artistes de renoms tels que Maten, Ninan, Shauit, Claude McKenzie, Florent Vollant, Scott-Pien Picard pour en nommer quelques-uns.

Pako is a singer-songwriter from the Atikamekw community of Manawan (Lanaudière region, Quebec). With a solid, masterful folk-rock style, Pako performs the lyrics he writes in his native Atikamekw language. He deals with powerful subjects such as the importance of language, the values and history of his community, identity, the environment, human relationships and the hope of a better life. Pako has taken part in many prestigious shows and festivals in Quebec, Switzerland and Australia. A talented guitarist, he also collaborated with many renowned artists such as Maten, Ninan, Shauit, Claude McKenzie, Florent Vollant and Scott-Pien Picard, to name but a few.

For two nights, members of Lebanese sextet SANAM and a lineup of collaborators will take the stage at Hotel2Tango for a series of solo and duo performances. While the band itself won’t be performing, these sets will highlight the individual artistry of its members alongside special guests, exploring free-rock, post-folk, and experimental sounds in an intimate setting.

Ses paroles abordent la vie, l’amour, les luttes et les réalités de la rue, créant ainsi un son authentique et puissant qui touche un jeune public tout en restant fidèle à ses racines culturelles. Ayant grandi en Amérique latine et confrontée aux défis des inégalités, du manque d’opportunités et de l’oppression systématique, Ramé a trouvé sa voix à travers la musique. En explorant les thèmes des traumatismes infantiles, de l’identité, de l’itinérance, de la toxicomanie et de la corruption, elle cherche à trouver l’espoir malgré le chaos. Sa mission est de sensibiliser le public aux avantages et aux inconvénients de l’identité latino-américaine et de trouver un sentiment de communauté et de résilience pour ceux qui se sentent invisibles. Elle a pour but de créer un espace de conscience et d’espoir, malgré tous les défis auxquels tout individu peut être confronté, et de lui permettre de se sentir représenté et entendu.

Growing up in Latin America and faced with the challenges of inequality, lack of opportunities and systematic oppression, led her to find her voice through music. Diving into themes of childhood trauma, identity, homelessness, drug abuse, and corruption, Ramé looks to find hope despite the chaos. Her mission is to spread awareness of both the benefits and burdens of Latin-American identity, and to find a sense of community and resilience for anyone who feels unseen. She aims to create a space for awareness and hope, despite all the challenges any individual can face, and to allow them to feel represented and heard.

Gioco

Le son de Gioco peut être décrit comme une fusion abstraite de textures industrielles expérimentales tissées à des rythmes d’influence afro et à des éléments de hip-hop et de musique électronique. Cette alchimie non conventionnelle est à l’origine de son surnom : “The Abstractnaut”. L’une de ses plus grandes forces est sa polyvalence vocale : son flow passe du R&B au Dancehall ou au Rap, que ce soit en anglais, en espagnol et/ou en français.

Gioco’s sound can be described as an abstract fusion of experimental industrial textures mixed with afro-influenced rhythms and elements of hip-hop, and electronic music. This unorthodox alchemy is the reason behind his moniker : “The Abstractnaut”. One of his greatest strengths is his vocal versatility : his flow goes from R&B, Dancehall or Rap whether in English, Spanish or/and French.

Son premier EP, For The Good Guys And The Bad Guys (2019), a récolté plus d’un million de streams et remporté de multiples prix, lançant une carrière qui l’a menée à travers le Canada, les États-Unis et le Royaume-Uni. Ssunday

Ssunday est un chanteur nigérian de Neo Soul et un artiste visuel basé à Toronto. Il puise son inspiration dans son éducation dans le sud du Nigéria pour façonner son son soulful et ses choix de couleurs vives et saturées. Influencé par des artistes comme Asa et Don Williams, la musique de Ssunday crée des expériences apaisantes, nostalgiques et intimes sur scène. Il collabore étroitement avec le bassiste Malcolm Hillier et le batteur Michael Mintchev. En août 2023, il a sorti son premier EP, ”Blue Sunday”.

Ssunday is a Nigerian Neo Soul singer and visual artist based in Toronto. He draws inspiration from his southern Nigerian upbringing to shape his soulful sound and bright saturated colour choices. Everly Lux

Mettant de l’avant les récits d’Émerik St-Cyr Labbé érigés sur une trame douce-rugueuse aux consonances soul et R&B, le Du soleil dans l’œil de Mon Doux Saigneur, qui s’est pointé après l’Horizon (2020) et la Fleur de l’Âge (2022), se parachute bien au-delà du « rêve Americana » jusqu’ici présenté. Le nouveau paysage n’est pour autant absolument étranger. Mon Doux reste le même ; il emmène juste ailleurs ; là où les routes sont pavées de croches de basse grasse, de claviers qui tintent, pis qui étincellent, de guitares qui flyent et des rythmes inébranlables d’une batterie, qui, au détour d’un hook, le IV ou un autre, se fait presque machine. Un Saigneur incandescent.

Highlighting Émerik St-Cyr Labbé’s stories, built on a soft-rough backdrop with soul and R&B inflections, Du soleil dans l’œil by Mon Doux Saigneur, arriving after Horizon (2020) and La Fleur de l’Âge (2022), lands far beyond the “Americana dream” presented until now. Yet the new landscape is by no means foreign. Mon Doux is still the same; he just leads us elsewhere, where the roads are paved with fat bass grooves, sparkling keys, guitars that take flight, and the unwavering rhythms of drums that, at the turn of a hook, the IV or another, become almost machine-like. An incandescent Saigneur.

Coup de coeur francophone : Canette et Margaret Tracteur au Quai des brumes

Canette

Chip au banjo, Lonesome Hobo à la guitare, Bag à l’accordéon et à la contrebassine, Lamya au violoncelle et au banjo ténor ; les quatre forment Canette et dégoupillent une musique crue, brute, un « folk trop punk pour être folk, et trop folk pour être punk ». Le genre de bande de sensibles présents avec qui on crie et on danse jusqu’à pas de lendemain, les yeux plantés droit dans ceux d’aujourd’hui, le cœur au ventre.

Chip on banjo, Lonesome Hobo on guitar, Bag on accordion and double-bass, Lamya on cello and tenor banjo ; the four make up Canette, detonating a raw, unfiltered sound: “folk too punk to be folk, and too folk to be punk.” The kind of sensitive crew you share the moment with, screaming and dancing until dawn, eyes locked on the present, heart in your gut.

Margaret Tracteur

Margaret Tracteur, c’est l’histoire d’une grande musicienne de cinq pieds deux qui s’est découvert une ferveur inusitée pour le banjo, le country et le blues ; qui s’est donné Margaret Tracteur comme alter ego et qui, dans la plus pure tradition des grands mythes américains, s’est lancée à la conquête de l’Ouest, littéralement : le Canada, les US, jusqu’au Mexique. Avec les Faucheuses fauchées, musiciennes de trail, Tracteur travaille un son organique et artisanal pour habiller des textes irrévérencieux et pleins d’esprit.
