Le collectif Wilding AI présente FERAL FREQUENCIES, une composition collective développée lors d’une résidence de deux semaines au Laboratoire formes · ondes de l’Université de Montréal. Cette pièce constitue l’aboutissement de deux années d’expérimentation et de recherche-création sur l’utilisation d’outils d’intelligence artificielle pour la spatialisation sonore.
La composition s’articule autour de quatre thèmes centraux explorés par le collectif : la souveraineté émotionnelle, des données qui comptent, les formes algorithmiques des récits et casser les machines / tisser des liens.
Diffusée à travers les 93 haut-parleurs de la Satosphère, cette création propose une expérience sonore de pointe à l’intersection de la scénophonie — domaine d’expertise de la SAT — et des technologies émergentes en intelligence artificielle.

The Wilding AI collective presents FERAL FREQUENCIES, a collective composition developed during a two-week residency at the Université de Montréal’s Laboratoire formes · ondes. This piece marks the culmination of two years of experimentation and research-creation exploring the use of artificial intelligence tools for sound spatialization.
The composition is structured around four central themes explored by the collective: Emotional Sovereignty, Data That Matters, The Algorithmic Shape of Stories and Breaking Machines / Making Kin.
Channeled through the Satosphere’s 93 speakers, this creation offers a cutting-edge sonic experience at the intersection of scenophony — one of the SAT’s research expertise — and emerging artificial intelligence technologies.

Avec leur son organique mais richement atmosphérique, le groupe de rock alternatif de Los Angeles Silversun Pickups a contribué à faire connaître la scène ultra-branchée de Silver Lake grâce à son succès critique et commercial au XXIe siècle. Après des débuts en 2005, ils deviennent des favoris des radios indépendantes jusqu’à leur percée grand public avec Swoon en 2009. À chaque nouvel album, le groupe continue d’évoluer, intégrant des éléments orchestraux et des textures synthétiques à son son percutant, comme en témoignent Neck of the Woods (2012), qui atteint les sommets des classements, et Widow’s Weeds (2019), produit par Butch Vig. En 2022, le quatuor sort son sixième album, Physical Thrills.

With their organic but richly atmospheric sound, Los Angeles alternative rock band Silversun Pickups helped put the über-hip Silver Lake scene on the map with their critical and commercial success in the 21st century. Debuting in 2005, they were indie radio favorites until their mainstream breakthrough, Swoon, arrived in 2009. With each subsequent release, the band continued to evolve, incorporating orchestral elements and synth sheen to their driving sound with albums such as 2012’s chart-peak Neck of the Woods and 2019’s Butch Vig-produced Widow’s Weeds. In 2022, the quartet released their sixth set, Physical Thrills.

Eadsé, qui signifie « mon bon ami » en wendat, est une auteure-compositrice-interprète wendate établie à Montréal. Ancrée dans les traditions de ses ancêtres, elle puise son inspiration chez son grand-père, membre du clan du Loup et de la famille du Corbeau. En 2021, elle a lancé My Good Friend, son premier EP, en collaboration avec Emmanuel Alias. Son morceau instrumental Oné-Onti, un hommage à Max Gros-Louis, a été écouté plus de six millions de fois en ligne. À l’été 2022, elle a enregistré Stay avec Trey Vittetoe (qui a collaboré avec Selena Gomez et Miley Cyrus). Après la sortie de Owen II et I’ll Keep Dreaming, Eadsé dévoile Healer, son premier album très attendu, prévu pour le 7 mars 2025. Mêlant pop-soul et influences R&B, ce disque profondément introspectif aborde la guérison, la résilience et le lâcher-prise avec une sincérité touchante. Eadsé, meaning « my good friend » in Wendat, is a Wendat singer-songwriter based in Montreal. Rooted in the traditions of her ancestors, she draws inspiration from her grandfather, a member of the Wolf Clan and the Raven family. In 2021, she released My Good Friend, her debut EP, in collaboration with Emmanuel Alias. Her instrumental track Oné-Onti, a tribute to Max Gros-Louis, has garnered over six million streams online. Figure de proue de la techno européenne, Jochem Paap, plus connu sous le nom de Speedy J, explore depuis plus de trente ans l’ensemble du spectre des musiques électroniques avec une curiosité et une inventivité inébranlables. De ses débuts sur le label Plus 8 de Richie Hawtin à ses albums phares parus chez Warp et Novamute, Paap a toujours envisagé le son comme un terrain d’évolution plutôt qu’un cadre figé.

A foundational figure in European techno, Jochem Paap—better known as Speedy J—has spent over three decades traversing the full spectrum of electronic music with unwavering curiosity and innovation. From his early days on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 label to landmark releases on Warp and Novamute, Paap has always approached sound as a space for evolution, not repetition.

Sara Curruchich in concert : great songstress of mayan roots and feminist intensity

A Maya descendant, specifically from the Kaqchikel group, and located in Guatemala, Curruchich not only defends the rights of her people, but as a contemporary intersectional activist, she also speaks out for the women of her country. An indigenous and feminist activist, then, who expresses herself through folk-pop music tinged with rock, but above all with commitment and intensity.

The lady was at the Balattou club last night. The same strong stage presence we noticed at the Mundial Montreal showcase last year is there, immanent and communicative. There’s something of Llasa de Sela in Sara, but more extravagant, affirmative. The melodies sound just right, authentic (and sometimes they are, drawn from local or more broadly Latin American folklore), but most of them come from the artist’s nimble pen. She is accompanied by a drum kit, a bass, and, most importantly, a marimba, which brings all the specific colour to this music. Curruchich sings and plays the guitar, but sometimes joins his colleague on the aforementioned marimba in invigorating four-hand bursts.

The voice, sometimes fragile but generally very accurate, has a slightly raspy quality steeped in nature and the local terroir. However, it is not without lyrical power, and when those moments arrive, the roundness is beautiful, balanced.

Here’s an artist who tickles both the emotions and the conscience in an original and personal way. Let’s hope she comes back often.

Presence autochtone 2025 | Whales Without Borders

The world premiere of “Song of the Whales,” an Australian-Canadian project featuring the Montreal ensemble Oktoecho and Indigenous artists from Canada, Australia and New Zealand, took place last night at Place des Festivals. In the interview she gave to my colleague Alain Brunet, the co-composer of the work, Australian Corrina Bonshek, reveals that she didn’t write any notes for the solo musicians, but rather proposed landscapes to inhabit. That’s exactly the effect the nearly 90-minute music offered the audience: a vast panorama with a generally contemplative and spiritual atmosphere. As the traditional instruments and voices (Inuit throat singing, Australian didgeridoo, Persian kemancheh, traditional flute and Aboriginal ocean conch, etc.) are slowly deployed, the landscape unfolds in a succession of calm (predominant) and lively (occasional) passages. The Inuit singing duo informed us, with examples, about the playful and competitive nature of throat singing, which was a very enjoyable moment.

As mentioned, the few accelerated moments added some pep to the show, whose artistic and aesthetic value I find is probably more enjoyable to experience indoors than outdoors, unless there’s a more holistic visual staging. There were a few slow parts in the performance. This is a first, so there’s still time to refine details and speed up the pacing between pieces, which sometimes seemed hesitant.

You’ll also notice that the narrative structure of the entire concert might be lost on many, as the connection to the whales sometimes becomes indescribable. That said, the work is also a grand fresco tinged with symbolism, and not a musical theatre piece that tells a specific story.

Despite these well-intentioned criticisms, I remain captivated by the immersive and enchanting atmospheres created by co-composers Katia Makdissi-Warren and Corrina Bonshek, as well as all the artists on stage, in this elaborate crossover imbued with the best spiritual-environmental insights.

A second performance will occur tonight, same time, same place, if you missed it, or want to dive again in this musical ocean.

Wata Igarashi

Wata Igarashi s’est rapidement imposé comme l’un des DJ et producteurs les plus en vue du Japon. Il explore le côté le plus profond de la techno à travers des EPs acclamés sur Midgar, The Bunker NY et le label Bitta de DJ Nobu, ainsi que des morceaux marquants sur des compilations de Semantica et Time to Express. Wata Igarashi has quickly emerged as one of Japan’s leading DJs and producers. Marie Davidson

Marie Davidson is a fearless force in electronic music, blending techno, spoken-word, and experimental pop into a signature sound. In 2020, she expanded her sound on Renegade Breakdown, collaborating with Pierre Guerineau and Asaël Robitaille to craft experimental pop songs where she sang for the first time. Asha est une force montante de la scène électronique montréalaise. Originaire de Toronto et profondément enracinée dans la culture caribéenne, elle puise dans son riche héritage musical pour créer des sets où se mêlent des sonorités lourdes en basses, percussives et polyrythmiques qui franchissent les frontières et les genres. Que ce soit en solo ou au sein du duo Runa and Asha, elle a forgé une identité sonore singulière, naviguant entre techno, bass, électro, breaks et plus encore. En dehors des platines, Asha est une organisatrice engagée et cofondatrice d’Ether, un collectif dédié à la mise en lumière des expressions contemporaines et diasporiques au sein de la musique bass.

Asha is a rising force in Montreal’s electronic music scene. Originally from Toronto but with deep Caribbean roots, her sets are a reflection of her rich musical upbringing—seamlessly fusing bass-heavy, percussion-driven, polyrhythmic sounds that transcend borders and genres. Sanajiit ᓴᓇᔩᑦ (Inuit Makers) est une série documentaire de 13 épisodes qui offre au public une expérience immersive au cœur du processus créatif, de l’artisanat, des compétences et du quotidien des créateurs inuits du Nunavut. S’inspirant des conventions du genre « Slow TV », Sanajiit célèbre les rythmes et les réalités de la culture inuite, ainsi que le processus d’apprentissage traditionnel inuit, « apprendre par la pratique », avec les aînés, les membres de la communauté et une nouvelle génération d’Inuits. Produite en inuktitut et sous-titrée en anglais, Sanajiit favorise la préservation de la langue et l’accessibilité pour le public inuit, garantissant ainsi que ces histoires continueront à inspirer les générations à venir.
