laced

Drawing from dreams and fantasy, she creates music that feels suspended between reality and reverie — a space where emotion and abstraction meet. In 2020, she founded the experimental label Causal Chain, dedicated to boundary-pushing electronic and ambient works. Her 2022 EPs — Caustic Reverie and oko — expanded her sonic palette, combining intricate rhythmic structures with delicate, otherworldly textures. Alongside her solo work, she is also part of Saudade, a collaboration with visual artist and harpist Marilou Lyonnais Archambault. Together, they craft abstract and contemplative compositions drawing on the dreamlike dimension of sound to explore themes of mirage, memory, and absence.

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Artistes

sxelxéles te tl’etl’áxel / designs for inviting is a performance that questions how Indigenous values can influence the presentation of new music (staging, gathering formats). Taking as a starting point compositions by Linda Catlin Smith and Anna Höstman, Robinson collaborates with choreographer Justine Chambers and filmmaker Neven Lochhead to explore how the central concern of these works can be deepened through gesture and film. Together, the artists seek to define a new performance space inspired by Indigenous (xwélmexw) values of relationality and gathering protocols.

Jeffrey Stonehouse, artistic director of Semaine du Neuf, tells us more:

“This concert is linked to a symposium that the videographers are organizing on curating for and by Indigenous artists. It is also a carte blanche given to Dylan Robinson, an Indigenous intellectual from the Skwah Nation who is a professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He wrote the book Hungry Listening. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.”

Here is what the publisher, University of Minnesota Press, has to say about it: Hungry Listening is the first book to address listening from the perspective of both Indigenous peoples and settlers. A critical response to what has been called the “whiteness of sound studies,” Dylan Robinson assesses how decolonial practices of listening emerge from a growing awareness of our auditory positioning.

“Dylan Robison,” adds Jeffrey Stonehouse, “changes the starting point, I would say. He questions the contexts in which music is presented. All this through a non-Western perspective, in fact. He has chosen to program works by Linda Kaplan-Smith and Anna Hostman, two Canadian composers, one based in Toronto, the other on the west coast. They work with a trio of musicians: Pamela Reimer on keyboards, Wesley Shen on harpsichord, and Anna Atkinson on viola. These artists have already worked with Dylan in Vancouver. There are two other designers involved in this project, choreographer Justine Chambers and filmmaker Nevin Lockhead.”

by Rédaction PAN M 360

“La Vida Es Un Carnaval” sang the legendary Celia Cruz, whose songs the group has covered. That phrase pretty much sums up its musical ambition. La Murga Ensamble is always raring to go at Montreal’s most popular Latinx events. Rooted in the feverish rhythms of salsa dura, boogaloo and other Afro-Caribbean vibes from the ’60s to the ’80s, the collective gathers together some of the city’s best Afro-Latinx musicians. Backed by sizzling brass, thunderous percussions, and authentic vinyl records, they take to the stage with the promise of an all-out party and an invitation to dance all night long.

Festival international Nuits d’Afrique : Zalam Kao à l’esplanade Tranquille

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Zalam Kao, “through a fusion of styles, embodies a kind of vibrant musical spirit that has been part of Montreal since the 1970s, namely an uninhibited blending of cultures that form the mosaic of our music scene,” (Le Devoir, 2026). This big winner of the 19th edition of the Syli d’Or de la Musique du Monde awards doesn’t hold back as it moves through jazz, funk and soul. Sunny and unifying, Zalam Kao’s music is not only eclectic, it’s truly mind-blowing! Global music has never carried its name so well.

Festival international Nuits d’Afrique : Suraras do Tapajós à l’esplanade Tranquille

by Rédaction PAN M 360

With powerful drumming, lively singing, and twirling skirts, Suraras do Tapajós takes us into the heart of the Amazon. But don’t be fooled! The rhythms are joyful but their lyrics are profound and serious. This first all-female carimbó group sings of life, resistance, and the memories of the peoples of Brazil’s Lower Tapajós region. As gentle as they are rebellious, the women share their deep connection to nature, pay tribute to women’s solidarity and strength, and advocate for the defence of ancestral lands and Indigenous rights. Emanating a magnetic aura, a determined spirit of rebellion, and a deeply rooted vitality, Suraras do Tapajós were unanimously selected for the WOMEX Showcase 2025.

Festival international Nuits d’Afrique : Guiss Guiss Bou Bess au Club Balattou

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Electro-Sabar is like a head on collision between Senegalese drums and gritty electronic beats. Guiss Guiss Bou Bess (meaning “New Vision” in Wolof) “turns the global music world on its head by bringing a new dimension to traditional Senegalese music,” (Radio Nova, 2021). By injecting the raw power of ritual Sabar percussion and the transcendental beauty of spiritual chants with an infusion of UK garage, grime, dubstep and house, this trio from Dakar’s vibrant neighbourhoods has been reinventing one of the country’s most iconic rhythms since 2016, crafting a hybrid, futuristic, explosive and unifying trance.

Festival international Nuits d’Afrique : BIM (Benin International Musical) au Théâtre Fairmount

by Rédaction PAN M 360

When the beat calls, the crowd answers. “A ceremonial ode to vodún culture,” (FIP, 2024), BIM’s music is a striking show of Dahomey polyrhythms, Sakpata to Egungun, Afro-Funk pop rock and hip-hop brought back to its roots. With powerful harmonies, ritual percussion, edgy guitar riffs, and dynamic flow, the collective promotes, without embellishment or folkorism, a modern and festive vision of Beninese culture. Tailored for the live stage, BIM has been celebrated all the way to Carnegie Hall, where they performed at the invitation of Angélique Kidjo. For the Festival’s 40th anniversary, they are planning a special concert that will include covers of classic African hits from the 1970s to today.
