Gagnant du dernier Concours Chopin de Varsovie, le Montréalais Bruce Liu a marqué l’histoire en étant le seul Canadien à remporter cet honneur. Pour son premier concert aux côtés de Yannick Nézet-Séguin, il s’attaque à un répertoire beaucoup plus fougueux : le Concerto pour piano n° 2 de Rachmaninov.
Les premières notes de la saison viendront de l’œuvre de la compositrice Cris Derksen, présentée en première mondiale et qui crée un espace où héritage classique et musique électro côtoient la vision du monde de la nation crie. Sous la direction de Yannick Nézet-Séguin, l’OM poursuit son cycle Sibelius avec la Symphonie n° 2, laquelle puise autant dans la résistance à l’envahisseur que dans le drame de son climat nordique pour offrir une pièce magistrale, où l’atmosphère change en un coup de vent.
Bruce Liu made history at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition for being the first Canadian to be awarded First Prize. Now he’s returning home to tackle more spirited repertoire: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
The first notes of the season will be from composer Cris Derksen. In its world premiere, Derksen’s piece creates a space where classical and electronic music encounter the Cree Nation worldview. Under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the OM will continue its Sibelius symphonic cycle with Symphony No. 2—a masterpiece with tempestuous ambiance, in the spirit of Finnish resistance and dramatic climes.

Mundial Montreal : Second Moon, Mi’gmafrica, Bruno Capinan et Dumai Dunai

Évoquant le son traditionnel coréen du pansori et mélangé à des instruments occidentaux, Second Moon est un groupe dynamique de 7 membres qui fait des vagues depuis sa formation en 2004. Combinant deux genres musicaux très différents, Second Moon apporte un son unique en fusionnant le Pansori coréen, un style de narration musicale, avec la musique irlandaise en incorporant des instruments tels que le sifflet irlandais, le bodhran et la mandoline. Le groupe s’est fait connaître en 2006 lorsqu’il a été sélectionné pour les prix “Rookie of the Year” et “Record of the Year” aux Korean Music Awards. Second Moon a continué à repousser les limites musicales avec son album Pansori Chunhyangga, qui a remporté le prix “Best Jazz & Crossover” aux Korea Music Awards 2017.
Evoking Korean traditional Pansori sound & mixed with Western instrumentals, Second Moon is a dynamic 7-member band that has been making waves since their formation in 2004. Combining two very different genres of music, Second Moon brings a unique sound as they fuse Korean Pansori, a style of musical storytelling, with Irish music by incorporating instruments like Irish whistle, bodhran & mandolin. The band gained recognition in 2006 when they were selected for “Rookie of the Year” & “Record of the Year” at the Korean Music Awards. Second Moon continued to push musical boundaries with their album Pansori Chunhyangga, which won the “Best Jazz & Crossover” award at the 2017 Korea Music Awards.

Melodies, songs and tributes to the elders combine gently and powerfully to take you to the farthest reaches of human history. Two traditions, two continents, drawing their inspiration and strength from the same sources: the roots of the earth and Creation. They present us with magic and beauty, these revisited songs and compositions.

Bringing the deep grooves of dub and the energy of punk rock to the Slavic singing styles of lead singers Natalia Telentso and Eli Camilo, this band’s mission is to make you dance. The seven-piece band with members originating from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Canada and the USA is working on their debut album set to be released in 2024.

Le Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique de la Maison symphonique, dont on fêtera le 10e anniversaire durant la saison 2023-2024, occupera une place de choix dans cette pièce d’une audacieuse originalité.
Rafael Payare kicks off the OSM’s 90th season with two amazing works. Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring is driven by an incomparable rhythmic force and fierceness. A comparable quality of explosive joy and vitality is also present in Janáček’sGlagolitic Mass, a boldly original piece featuring the Maison symphonique’s Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique as the OSM celebrates the organ’s 10th anniversary during the 2023-2024 season.
