Kiwi Jr. présente son troisième album, Chopper.

Il y a une mélancolie dans toutes les formes de vol, et la vue à partir du Chopper est aussi brumeuse que possible : orientée vers la mission, à la fois furtive et auto-réalisée.

Bien sûr, ces chansons laissent passer un peu de lumière à travers les stores, mais elles piquent l’insomnie, les maires corrompus, les malédictions de Kennedy, les sex-tapes et les fusils à cerf. Chopper est une vue à vol d’oiseau du grand événement – un véritable personnage nocturne de tache d’huile, de grain de film, de lumière de recherche, de vol de nuit. There’s a melancholy to all forms of flight, and the view out the Chopper is as hazy as it gets: mission-oriented, both stealth and self-realized.

Sure, these songs let a little light through the blinds, but they sting insomnia, corrupt mayors, Kennedy Curses, sex tapes, and deer rifles. Chopper is the bird’s eye view of the big event – a real nighttime character of oil stain, film grain, search light, night flight. It is muscular and fragile; loud yet quiet: both an observer and somehow the observed spectacle itself.

D’une part, il s’agit d’une collection de chansons pop/folk cathartiques et rythmées, d’autre part, c’est un livre de récits de la vie citadine qui font chavirer le cœur. Ada Lea a poursuivi le travail créatif de chansons indie-rock de son premier album what we say in private avec des arrangements surprenants et de nouvelles perspectives.

The Weather Station at The International Jazz Festival

Ignorance, le nouvel album de The Weather Station, commence de manière énigmatique ; un sifflement de hi hat, un battement de tambour bégayant. Une minute entière s’écoule avant l’entrée de la voix de Tamara Lindeman, douce, conversationnelle, qui entonne : « I never believed in the robber ». Une musique en dents de scie se construit, avec des cordes poignardantes, un saxophone et plusieurs couches de percussions, et la chanson ondule pendant cinq minutes de tension croissante, oscillant entre deux accords seulement. Une fois de plus, la compositrice torontoise Tamara Lindeman a refait le son de The Weather Station ; une fois de plus, elle a profité de l’occasion d’un nouveau disque pour créer un nouveau paysage sonore, taillé sur mesure pour exprimer une idée émotionnelle.

Ignorance, the new album by the The Weather Station, begins enigmatically; a hissing hi hat, a stuttering drum beat. A full minute passes before the entry of Tamara Lindeman’s voice, gentle, conversational, intoning; “I never believed in the robber”. A jagged music builds, with stabbing strings, saxophone, and several layers of percussion, and the song undulates through five minutes of growing tension, seesawing between just two chords. Once again, Toronto songwriter Tamara Lindeman has remade what The Weather Station sounds like; once again, she has used the occasion of a new record to create a new sonic landscape, tailor-made to express an emotional idea.

Adjuah est connu pour avoir développé la convention harmonique connue sous le nom de « cellule de prévision » et pour son utilisation d’un ton sans voix dans son interprétation, mettant l’accent sur le souffle plutôt que sur la vibration à l’embouchure. Adjuah est également le géniteur de la « Stretch Music » , une forme musicale sans genre, enracinée dans le jazz, qui tente d’étirer les conventions rythmiques, mélodiques et harmoniques du jazz pour englober de multiples formes, langages et cultures musicales.

Adjuah is known for developing the harmonic convention known as the “forecasting cell” and for his use of an un-voiced tone in his playing, emphasizing breath over vibration at the mouthpiece. Adjuah is also the progenitor of “Stretch Music,” a jazz rooted, genre blind musical form that attempts to “stretch” jazz’s rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions to encompass multiple musical forms, languages and cultures.
