Les musiciens de jazz : Kate Wyatt au piano, Lex French à la trompette, Jim Doxas à batterie et Adrian Vedady à la contrebasse, ont tous atteint la notoriété avec leurs projets musicaux respectifs. Ils se réunissent ici pour créer cette formation brillante de la scène jazz Montréalaise, dont la fluidité des échanges nous plonge dans une musique sensible, parfois douce, parfois haute en intensité.
Jazz musicians Kate Wyatt on piano, Lex French on trumpet, Jim Doxas on drums and Adrian Vedady on bass. All of them experienced and respected band leaders in their own rights, together they have emerged as a bright new group on the Montreal scene… a quartet whose effortless chemistry fosters deep interaction and high intensity.

Suoni Per Il Popolo : R.A.P. Ferreira, Strange Froots and Magella at La Sala Rossa

Dernier appel pour Suoni 2022! Nous clôturons avec du hip-hop soul, galactique et revigorant. R.A.P. Ferreira (aka scallops hotel, Black Orpheus, hi-yello the sly rebel, brother of the wind in the wisdom body) amène sa fantaisie utopique au micro. Le phénomène soul local Magella filtre son blues diasporique à travers des influences électroniques et jazz. Les puissants Strange Froots, qui ne sont pas étrangers à nos humbles rendez-vous, se défoulent avec leur version particulière du chill-soul et un twist du hip-hop contemporain.
Last call for Suoni 2022! We’re winding it down with soulful, galactic, invigorating hip-hop. R.A.P. Ferreira (aka scallops hotel, Black Orpheus, hi-yello the sly rebel, brother of the wind in the wisdom body) brings his utopic whimsy to the mic. Local soul phenom Magella filters her diasporic blues through electronic and jazz influences. The mighty Strange Froots, no strangers to our humble gatherings, let loose with their particular take on chill-soul and a twist on contemporary hip-hop.
Projet électronique onirique de Robert Toher, les collages denses de dub, de Krautrock et de trip-hop de Public Memory explorent la perte, les rêves et la nostalgie partagée. Sur des albums comme Demolition de 2018, Toher n’utilise guère plus que des voix d’un autre monde, un synthétiseur Korg, une guitare et des enregistrements de terrain pour élaborer des morceaux hallucinatoires qui donnent l’impression de pouvoir s’évaporer à tout moment, tout en laissant un impact durable.
The dreamy electronic project of Robert Toher, Public Memory’s dense collages of dub, Krautrock and trip-hop explore loss, dreams and shared nostalgia. On albums such as 2018’s Demolition, Toher uses little more than otherworldly vocals, a Korg synthesizer, guitar and field recordings to craft hallucinatory tracks that sound like they could evaporate at any moment, yet leave a lasting impact.

Hammering out influences including free jazz, psych and noise, Nordic trio FIRE!, featuring Mats Gustafsson (sax), Johan Berthling (bass guitar) and Andreas Werlin (drums), have earned a dedicated place within the spheres of international heavy improv. This evening kicks off with a presentation of La Lumière Du Soleil Dans Un Semi Sous-sol, a series of three videos created to accompany Soundworks by NYC sound artist Joseph Sannicandro and local musician/activist/organizer Stefan Christoff. Filmmakers include Guillaume Vallée, Samer Najari and Francesca Tallone.
Alex Bellegarde crée une musique énergique aux influences multiples et ses projets englobent des collaborations dans le jazz, musiques latines et pluridisciplinaires. Lauréat du Grand Prix de Jazz au 26e édition du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, il compte plusieurs albums à son actif : Floating, Caminando, Quintet et Quartet “Live” et de nombreuses participations d’enregistrements avec d’autres artistes. Tenace et dévoué au jazz, il jouit de toute une réputation à la tête de son jam session hebdomadaire qui attire de nombreux artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs en quête d’étincelles..
Energetic player, composer and Grand Jazz Award winner at the Montreal Jazz Festival, 26th ed, Alex Bellegarde creates music drawn from a wealth of sources. He heads a number of formations and participates in a range of projects: jazz, Latin music and multidisciplinary (theatre, film, poetry and dance to multimedia). With several albums to his credit: Floating, Caminando, Quintet and Quartet “Live , he is also guest contributor to a wide array of artists’ recordings and performs regularly throughout Canada and internationally (Europe, Mexico, U.S). A well known figure on Montreal’s effervescent jazz scene, he hosts a dynamic, weekly jam session that draws promising talents and renowned jazz musicians from near and afar.

Sur scène, il est entouré de cinq musiciens qui accompagnent sa voix et ses déhanchements à la basse, à la batterie, à la guitare, aux synthés et au saxophone.
Known for eccentric onstage performances and wide-ranging musical influences (Steely Dan, 70s Brazilian records, Stereolab, to name a few), Jerry Paper has toured alongside the likes of Mac Demarco, Badbadnotgood, and Mild High Club. On stage, Nathan is rounded out by five musicians who accompany his vocals and wiggling on bass, drums, guitar, synths, and saxophone.

Les Productions Nuits d’Afrique présentent le concert lancement du premier album de NAXX BITOTA, jeudi 30 juin au Club Balattou.
C’est aussi ce même jour que la sortie numérique mondiale de son album KUETU aura lieu sous le label Disques Nuits d’Afrique / Distribution Believe.
C’est en ce jour célébrant l’indépendance du Congo que Naxx Bitota dévoilera son tout premier opus très attendu. À travers cet album de 12 titres, l’auteure, compositrice et interprète offre un hommage à ses racines congolaises dans lesquelles elle a été bercée depuis son enfance.
Naxx nous emmène en voyage au coeur de son histoire en mêlant rythmes du Congo, tels que le Mutuashi, la Rumba et le Sébéné, avec des sonorités Afro Pop rafraîchissantes.
Kuetu qui signifie ‘’chez nous’’ en Tshiluba (langue Bantou), souligne ainsi l’envie de retour aux sources de l’artiste. Dans cet opus militant, elle évoque des sujets profonds à travers ses textes relatant les inégalités sociales, le vivre ensemble, mais aussi les étapes de la vie, heureuses ou non, qui nous font universellement grandir.
À la croisée de Miriam Makeba et Whitney Houston, Naxx Bitota trouve toujours cette façon de rassembler et de rendre hommage aux différentes régions de l’Afrique. Un engagement sans faille que l’on retrouve puissamment tout au long de sa carrière.

It is also on this day that the worldwide digital release of his album KUETU will take place under the label Disques Nuits d’Afrique / Distribution Believe.
It is on this day celebrating the independence of the Congo that Naxx Bitota will unveil his highly anticipated debut album. Through this 12-track album, the author, composer and performer offers a tribute to her Congolese roots in which she has been cradled since childhood.
Naxx takes us on a journey to the heart of her history by mixing Congolese rhythms, such as Mutuashi, Rumba and Sebene, with refreshing Afro Pop sounds.
Kuetu, which means “home” in Tshiluba (Bantu language), underlines the artist’s desire to return to her roots. In this militant opus, she evokes deep subjects through her texts relating the social inequalities, the living together, but also the stages of the life, happy or not, which make us universally grow.
At the crossroads of Miriam Makeba and Whitney Houston, Naxx Bitota always finds this way to bring together and pay tribute to the different regions of Africa. An unwavering commitment that is powerfully present throughout her career.

Kenzow at Club Balattou

« Les gens veulent quelque chose de rafraichissant », expliquait Kenzow à The Gazette, disant du même coup vouloir amener la coolitude de la guitare ouest-africaine dans les rues de la ville. Le fils d’Idrissa Ouedraogo manie une pop africaine inspirée de reggae, s’égarant parfois dans des recoins soukous.
Jeune artiste auteur-compositeur-interprète, originaire du Burkina Faso, il a posé ses bagages à Montréal il y a deux ans, après un passage par la France. On peut d’ailleurs l’entendre jouer de la musique dans les rues de Montréal ou dans le métro.
Avec des sonorités afro pop urbaine et reggae dans le style d’Afrique de l’Ouest, Kenzow souhaite toucher et émouvoir le plus de monde possible, peu importe les origines.
Très inspiré, le musicien passe son temps à la recherche de nouvelles sonorités, souvent accompagné de sa guitare. Fils du célèbre réalisateur Africain Idrissa Ouedraogo, Kenzow a été bercé par l’art et la culture, depuis son enfance.
“People want something refreshing,” Kenzow told The Gazette, saying he wanted to bring West African guitar coolness to the city streets. Idrissa Ouedraogo’s son wields a reggae-inspired African pop sound, sometimes straying into soukous corners.
A young singer-songwriter from Burkina Faso, he moved to Montreal two years ago after a stint in France. You can hear him playing music in the streets of Montreal or in the subway.
With urban Afro pop and reggae sounds in the style of West Africa, Kenzow wishes to touch and move as many people as possible, regardless of their origins.
Very inspired, the musician spends his time looking for new sounds, often accompanied by his guitar. Son of the famous African director Idrissa Ouedraogo, Kenzow has been rocked by art and culture since his childhood.
