Le groupe de métal progressif montréalais CYDEMIND sera de retour sur scène le vendredi 18 novembre 2022 pour célébrer la sortie de son nouvel album The Descent. L’événement se déroulera au Théâtre Plaza, à Montréal. Pour CYDEMIND, ce sera un premier retour sur scène depuis 2018. « On est vraiment excités (et stressés!) de rejouer devant un public. On s’était promis de ne plus rejouer avant d’avoir sorti du nouveau contenu. Avec la Covid, ça aura pris plus de temps qu’on pensait, mais on est finalement prêts! », admet Camille Delage, pianiste du groupe.

Montreal progressive metal band CYDEMIND will be back on stage on Friday, November 18, 2022 to celebrate the release of their new album The Descent. The event will take place at the Plaza Theatre in Montreal and will be CYDEMIND’s first return to the stage since 2018. We’re really excited (and stressed!) to play in front of an audience again,” admits Camille Delage, the band’s pianist. We promised ourselves that we wouldn’t play again until we released new content. With Covid, it took longer than we thought, but we’re finally ready!”

Lancement d’album : Taraf Syriana au Théâtre Plaza

Berceau de nombreuses cultures, la Syrie a été de tout temps traversée par de nombreux peuples et civilisations au fil des siècles. Arabes, Kurdes, Arméniens, Syriaques, Turques, Irakiens et Roms ont tous marqué l’histoire de ce pays au patrimoine millénaire.Composé de brillants musiciens provenant d’horizons culturels et musicaux très diversifiés – Sergiu Popa à l’accordéon, spécialiste des musiques balkanes, Omar Abou Afach à l’alto, Noémy Braun au violoncelle et Naeem Shanwar au qanoun – le groupe Taraf Syriana nous invite à une exploration passionnante d’un patrimoine musical glorieux, façonné par les rencontres et amalgames de multiples peuples et civilisation.

Dans ce concert où ils lanceront leur nouvel album de musiques folkloriques, allant des Balkans jusqu’en Syrie, ces quatre virtuoses reçoivent des musiciens et chanteurs invités qui nous transportent tantôt en terre des Roms, tantôt au Moyen-Orient. Ensemble avec le guitariste et chanteur roumain Dan Armeanca, le oudiste et chanteur syrien Ayham Abou Ammar et le joueur de darbouka Mohamed Raky, ils retracent les trésors de la musique traditionnelle des pays du Levant, aux identités riches et multiples.

C’est ainsi tout un récit fait de notes et de mélodies colorées que raconteront le qanun, l’accordéon, l’alto, le violoncelle de Taraf Syriana et leurs invités, empruntant avec naturel, aux rythmes du Moyen-Orient, ainsi qu’aux airs d’Europe de l’Est et des Balkans, pour un moment d’émotion qui vous fera lever de votre siège!

Cradle of many cultures, Syria has been crossed by many peoples and civilizations over the centuries. Arabs, Kurds, Armenians, Syriacs, Turks, Iraqis and Roma have all left their mark on the history of this country with its thousand-year-old heritage. Composed of brilliant musicians from very diverse cultural and musical backgrounds – Sergiu Popa on accordion, a specialist in Balkan music, Omar Abou Afach on viola, Noémy Braun on cello and Naeem Shanwar on qanoun – the group Taraf Syriana invites us to a fascinating exploration of a glorious musical heritage, shaped by the encounters and amalgamations of multiple peoples and civilizations.

In this concert, where they will launch their new album of folk music, from the Balkans to Syria, these four virtuosos welcome guest musicians and singers who transport us sometimes to the land of the Roma, sometimes to the Middle East. Together with the Romanian guitarist and singer Dan Armeanca, the Syrian oud player and singer Ayham Abou Ammar and the darbouka player Mohamed Raky, they retrace the treasures of the traditional music of the countries of the Levant, with their rich and multiple identities.

The qanun, accordion, viola and cello of Taraf Syriana and their guests will tell a story made of colorful notes and melodies, borrowing naturally from Middle Eastern rhythms, as well as from Eastern European and Balkan tunes, for a moment of emotion that will make you get up from your seat!

Kalush au Théâtre Plaza

Kalush Orchestra est un groupe de hip-hop ukrainien qui combine des motifs ethniques avec des sons modernes en utilisant différents instruments folkloriques. Le groupe a été nommé d’après la ville ukrainienne de Kalush. Située au pied des Carpates, cette ville sert de mascotte au groupe, qui s’inspire de différents éléments folkloriques et de la musique ukrainienne authentique dans ses chansons. De plus, c’est la ville natale d’Oleh Psiuk, membre du groupe. Leur chanson d’entrée à l’Eurovision, Stefania, est un hommage à la mère d’Oleh, qu’elle a entendue pour la toute première fois lorsqu’elle a vu le groupe participer à l’émission de sélection de l’Eurovision en Ukraine, Vidbir.

Kalush Orchestra is a Ukrainian hip-hop band that combines ethnic motifs with modern sounds using different folk instruments. The band was named after the Ukrainian city of Kalush. Set in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, it serves as a mascot that inspires the band to involve different folk elements and authentic Ukrainian music within their songs. Moreover, it is the hometown of band member Oleh Psiuk. Their Eurovision entry, Stefania, is a tribute to Oleh’s mother, which she only heard for the very first time when she saw the band compete in Ukraine’s Eurovision selection show, Vidbir.

L’Off Jazz présente Francesca Remigi

En s’inspirant du vécu de la compositrice, The Human Web est un projet interdisciplinaire conçu pour étudier comment la technologie et plus particulièrement les médias sociaux affectent la santé mentale, l’identité de soi et la vie publique en général. Faire de la musique est un processus de guérison, un moyen de se remettre d’un traumatisme et d’échanger avec les autres.

À travers des compositions créatives inspirées de la musique combinées à de la littérature et des performances de danse contemporaine, The Human Web dévoile comment la construction sociale et les stéréotypes toxiques de la culture pop contrôlent nos modèles de vie et nos choix.

Pour cette performance à l’Off Jazz, Francesca Remigi présente un projet exclusif avec des artistes canadiens et italiens!

Les bases de cette collaboration internationale ont été posées lors d’une résidence artistique au Banff Centre for the Arts en 2019.

“The Human Web” is an interdisciplinary project designed to investigate how technology and specifically Social Media negatively affect mental health, self identity and public life at large, starting from the composer’s personal narrative. Music making becomes a healing process and a way to share and recover from personal trauma.

Through creative music-inspired compositions combined with literature and contemporary dance performance, The Human Web unravels how social construct and pop culture’s toxic stereotypes are in control of our life models and choices.

For The Human Web performance at L’OFF Jazz Festival, Remigi is premiering an exclusive project with Canadian and Italian artists.

The groundwork for this international collaboration was laid during an artistic residency at Banff Center for the Arts in 2019.

L’off jazz présente l’orchestre national de jazz de France

Conçu par les compositeur et saxophoniste américain Steve Lehman et Frédéric Maurin, en étroite collaboration avec l’Ircam, Ex Machina explore des directions musicales inédites, en développant les interactions en temps réels entre les solistes et la machine au sein d’un grand ensemble de jazz. Ces deux musiciens partagent, en effet, nombre de problématiques esthétiques et d’ambitions qui les ont amenés à emprunter des cheminements comparables dans leurs ensembles respectifs.

Fruit d’un travail avec l’équipe Représentations musicales de l’Ircam dirigée par Gérard Assayag, Ex Machina intègre des dispositifs créés à partir de l’environnement DYCI2 par Jérôme Nika dans le processus de composition et dans les improvisations des solistes en temps réel, l’ordinateur devenant, tour à tour, un générateur d’orchestrations électroniques pour les compositeurs et un partenaire d’improvisation pour les musiciennes et musiciens.

Created by the American composer and saxophonist Steve Lehman and Frédéric Maurin, in close collaboration with Ircam, Ex Machina explores new musical directions by developing real-time interactions between the soloists and the machine within a large jazz ensemble. These two musicians share a number of aesthetic issues and ambitions that have led them to take similar paths in their respective ensembles.

Ex Machina is the result of work with Ircam’s Representations musicales team, directed by Gérard Assayag, and integrates devices created from the DYCI2 environment by Jérôme Nika into the compositional process and into the soloists’ improvisations in real time, the computer becoming, in turn, a generator of electronic orchestrations for the composers and a partner in improvisation for the musicians.
