Flavien Berger surprend et interpelle pour finalement nous charmer. En jouant avec les mots pour créer des histoires d’amour, en testant des sons tourbillonnants, le compositeur autodidacte s’est fait rapidement un nom en apportant un vent de fraicheur à la scène française. Flavien Berger, a toujours été intéressé par le bidouillage de machines pour en sortir des sons. Sur ce point, c’est assez difficile de définir son style : il va au-delà, mélangeant habilement les passages effrénés et les longues plages de synthétiseurs. En s’affranchissant de toute classification, il propose une musique aux influences aquatiques sur son premier album « Leviathan ». Chaque fois, il débarque avec des dynamiques différentes et celui qui l’écoute passe de montées fulgurantes à de sombres descentes. Écouter toutes ses sorties ou le voir jouer sur scène confirme son génie à emmener le public dans une expérience émotionnelle profonde, pleine d’imagination.

Yoke Lore au Studio TD

Le projet indie pop new-yorkais Yoke Lore est le projet musical solo d’Adrian Galvin, anciennement membre de Yellerkin et de Walk the Moon. Yoke Lore superpose les harmonies de Panda Bear, les rythmes soul de M83 et la pop moderne de Blackbird pour raconter “l’histoire de nos liens”. Les chansons de Galvin combinent des vagues de banjo, de voix et de percussions pour créer une musique pop saisissante, avec une candeur et une conviction tactiles.

New York indie pop project Yoke Lore is the solo musical venture of Adrian Galvin, previously of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon. Yoke Lore layers the harmonies of Panda Bear, the soulful beats of M83, and the modern pop of Blackbird to tell “the stories of how we are bound.” Galvin’s songs combine echoing waves of banjo, vocals, and percussion to create arresting pop music with tactile candor and conviction.

Originaire de Monterrey, au Mexique, le trio de sœurs – Daniela “Dany” (chant, guitares, piano), Paulina “Pau” (batterie, chant, piano) et Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal (basse, piano, chœurs) – éclate avec des riffs époustouflants, des rythmes imprévisibles qui remplissent les stades et des chants contagieux. Après avoir explosé en ligne, moment viral après moment viral, The Warning a utilisé cet élan pour une série de sorties indépendantes, dont Escape the Mind EP [2015], XXI Century Blood [2017] et Queen of the Murder Scene [2018].

Elise Trouw au Studio TD

Elise est née d’un père sud-africain et d’une mère américaine. Son vaste public, elle l’a constitué grâce à ses vidéos autoproduites sur YouTube, aux médias sociaux et aux tournées qu’elle effectue avec son groupe ou en tant qu’artiste solo utilisant le looping. Elle s’est produite au Jimmy Kimmel Show et a tourné une vidéo pour The Sound of Metal, un film nommé aux Oscars qui mettait aussi en vedette Travis Barker, batteur pour Blink-182, et Paul Raci.

Elise was born to a South African father and an American mother. She built a massive fanbase through her self-produced YouTube videos, social media platforms and touring, both as a solo looping artist and with her band. She has performed on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and shot a video for the Academy Award nominated picture, The Sound of Metal, which also featured Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Paul Raci.

Mali Obomsawin au Studio TD

Mali Obomsawin est une bassiste et compositrice primée de la Première nation d’Odanak. Son premier album, Sweet Tooth, a été acclamé dans le monde entier et l’a propulsée comme étoile montante du jazz et visionnaire de la musique folk. Forte d’un riche bagage combinant la musique « roots » américaine, le rock et la musique improvisée, elle s’est produite aux festivals folk de Newport et de Philadelphie, en plus de fouler des scènes de renom aux États-Unis, au Canada et en Allemagne.

Mali Obomsawin is an award-winning bassist and composer from the Odanak First Nation. Her debut album Sweet Tooth has garnered international acclaim, quickly establishing her as a rising jazz star and an innovative folk music visionary. With an expansive background in American roots, rock and improvised music, Obomsawin has performed at the Newport and Philladelphia Folk Festivals and in premier venues across the US, Canada and Germany.

Kassa Overall is a jazz musician, emcee, singer, producer and drummer, a product of New York City’s jazz scene who melds avant-garde experimentation with hip-hop production techniques to tilt the nexus of jazz and hip-hop in unmapped directions, reflecting a panoramic musical background from West Coast G-Funk to the sounds of the New York underground.

Curtis Nowosad Trio au Studio TD

Curtis Nowosad est un batteur, compositeur, directeur musical et enseignant basé à New York et nommé aux prix JUNO. Ce natif de Winnipeg est devenu une figure incontournable de la scène jazz new-yorkaise et internationale, tant à la tête de ses propres groupes que comme musicien accompagnateur. Il a joué dans les groupes de plusieurs générations d’artistes de jazz, dont Steve Nelson, Jazzmeia Horn et Braxton Cook. Il a également joué avec quatre NEA Jazz Masters : Candido Camero, Dave Liebman, Jimmy Owens et Ron Carter, en plus d’avoir enregistré avec un cinquième, Kenny Barron.

Curtis Nowosad is a JUNO-nominated, New York City -based drummer, composer, bandleader and educator. This Winnipeg native has become an integral part of the New York City and international jazz scene, both as a bandleader and a sideperson. He has played in the bands of multiple generations of jazz artists including Steve Nelson, Jazzmeia Horn and Braxton Cook. He has also played with four NEA Jazz Masters: Candido Camero, Dave Liebman, Jimmy Owens and Ron Carter, and recorded with a fifth, Kenny Barron.

Rafael Zaldivar Trio au Studio TD

Les compositions de Rafael Zaldivar témoignent de son savoir-faire comme pianiste et percussionniste, de ses nombreuses collaborations et de son héritage culturel. Né à Cuba, Zaldivar perpétue un riche héritage musical familial. Au cours de sa carrière, il a étudié auprès de certains des plus grands musiciens et joué ou enregistré avec plusieurs autres. Il a récemment reçu le deuxième prix du prestigieux concours international de piano jazz de Jacksonville, en Floride. Ses talents de directeur artistique, pianiste et compositeur lui ont permis de se forger une solide carrière sur la scène jazz canadienne et internationale.

Rafael Zaldivar’s compositions reflect his skills as a pianist and percussionist, his many collaborations and his cultural heritage. Born in Cuba, Zaldivar studied with some of the greatest musicians and has performed or recorded with many more. His talents as an artistic director, pianist and composer have allowed him to forge a solid career on the Canadian and international jazz scene.

Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is one of his generation’s pivotal figures in music and the related arts. Leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio and creator of the Masters Legacy Series, he is an internationally acclaimed jazz artist, a dedicated educator, the winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards, and a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition.

Gentiane MG au Studio TD

Gentiane MG, pianiste et compositrice, a su créer un univers riche qui transcende les genres avec ses complices de longue date, le bassiste Levi Dover et le batteur Louis-Vincent Hamel.

Ses deux premiers albums lui ont valu de nombreux éloges. Lauréate du prix Révélation Radio-Canada en Jazz en 2018 et du prix OPUS Découverte de l’année en 2020, elle a été invitée à se produire dans plusieurs pays avec plusieurs figures marquantes du monde du jazz.

Pianist and composer Gentiane MG has created a rich and genre-defying sound with her long-time collaborators, bassist Levi Dover and drummer Louis-Vincent Hamel. Her first two albums were met with critical acclaim, earning her the 2018 Radio-Canada Révélation en Jazz award and the 2020 OPUS Découverte de l’année award. She has been invited to perform in several countries with many prominent figures of the jazz world.

Brandee Younger au Studio TD

Brandee Younger est entrée dans l’histoire lors de la cérémonie des prix Grammy 2022, en devenant la première artiste noire solo nommée dans la catégorie Meilleure composition instrumentale. Sa capacité à introduire harmonieusement la harpe dans des arrangements et des lieux où elle avait toujours été exclue témoigne de sa maîtrise exemplaire et de son amour profond de cet instrument. Elle s’est produite et a enregistré avec divers artistes, dont John Legend, Lauryn Hill, Ravi Coltrane et Charlie Haden.

Brandee Younger recently made history at the 2022 Grammy Awards as the first Black female solo artist nominated in the Best Instrumental Composition category. Her ability to seamlessly introduce the harp into arrangements and venues where it has historically been overlooked is a testament to her deep love for and exemplary command of the instrument. Ses créations oscillent entre contemplation et transe, silence et musique.

Flautist Naïssam Jalal weaves connections between different musical cultures, to dazzling effect. Her many artistic projects are surprising, original and authentic. In the Naïssam Jalal trio, she plays with pianist Leonardo Montana and double bass player Claude Tchamitchian. The trio’s repertoire, which mixes non-Western mystical and traditional music with modal jazz, makes room for the importance of silence and steps lightly between contemplation and trance, silence and music.
