Le trompettiste et passionné des rythmes afro-caribéens Étienne Sevet a réuni autour de lui une panoplie de musiciens du Maghreb, d’Afrique et d’Amérique latine pour faire naître un groove épatant et étonnant, entre Folk traditionnelle et expérimentations cosmopolites rappelant parfois l’univers de la Mano Negra et appelé à enfiévrer le dancefloor. “La Ñapa”, EP prélude à un album complet en 2023, porté par des voix captivantes, croise les genres avec une efficacité redoutable.

The trumpeter and afro-Caribbean rhythms enthusiast Étienne Sevet has gathered around him a panoply of musicians from the Maghreb, Africa and Latin America to create a stunning groove, between traditional folk and cosmopolitan experimentation, sometimes reminiscent of the world of La Mano Negra and destined to set the dancefloor ablaze. “La Ñapa”, a prelude EP to a full album in 2023, features captivating vocals and crosses genres with formidable effectiveness.

La musique du groupe de Toronto BADBADNOTGOOD chevauche le soul-jazz des années 1970, le hip-hop alternatif et l’électronique expérimentale. La formation a d’abord attiré l’attention au début des années 2010 en jouant des reprises jazz de morceaux hip-hop ainsi que des chansons d’A Tribe Called Quest, de Kanye West et de Feist. Depuis, ils ont lancé plusieurs albums qui les auront amenés à collaborer avec des artistes hip-hop, dance et néo-soul comme Kaytranada, Charlotte Day Wilson et Kendrick Lamar.

Music from Toronto band BADBADNOTGOOD straddles 1970s soul jazz, alternative hip hop and experimental electronic. The band first got on people’s radars in early 2010 with their jazz covers of hip hop songs and songs by A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West and Feist. They’ve released several albums since, which has led to collabs with hip hop, dance and neo-soul artists like Kaytranada, Charlotte Day Wilson and Kendrick Lamar.

Reconnue par l’émission Ici Musique de Radio Canada comme étant l’une des cinq musiciennes de jazz à surveiller, la chanteuse franco-américaine Laura Anglade est en train de se faire un nom dans le monde du jazz. Lorsque Kamasi Washington a sorti son LP tour de force, The Epic, en 2015, il s’est instantanément engagé sur la voie du porte-flambeau de notre génération pour une musique progressive et improvisée qui ouvrirait la porte à de jeunes publics pour leur faire vivre une expérience musicale différente de tout ce qu’ils avaient entendu auparavant. L’odyssée de 172 minutes avec son groupe de 10 musiciens, The Next Step, était parsemée d’éléments de hip-hop, de musique classique et de R&B, autant d’influences majeures pour le jeune saxophoniste et chef d’orchestre, qui dépasse toutes les notions de ce qu’est la musique “jazz”.

When Kamasi Washington released his tour de force LP, the epic, in 2015, it instantly set him on a path as our generation’s torchbearer for progressive, improvisational music that would open the door for young audiences to experience music unlike anything they had heard before. The 172-minute odyssey featuring his 10-piece band, The Next Step, was littered with elements of hip-hop, classical and R&B music, all major influences on the young saxophonist and bandleader, who exceeds any notions of what “jazz” music is.

Tash Sultana, multi-instrumentiste, autric-compositrice-interprète, productrice et ingénieure, a été surnommé l’un des plus grands artistes musicaux d’Australie. Tash a commencé à jouer de la guitare à l’âge de 3 ans, après avoir reçu un cadeau de son grand-père. A partir de là, Tash a commencé à prendre d’autres instruments tels que le piano/clavier/synthé, la basse, la batterie/percussion, le beatmaking/échantillonnage, le beatboxing, la trompette, le saxophone, la flûte, la mandoline, l’oud, l’harmonica, la lap steel, la flûte de pan et les a arrangés dans des performances en boucle avec un jeu de guitare percutant coïncidant avec une gamme vocale s’étendant sur 5 octaves.

Tash Sultana, the gender fluid multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer and engineer, has been dubbed one of the hardest working music exports in Australia. Tash began playing the guitar from the age of 3 after being gifted the instrument from their grandfather. From there Tash began to pick up other instruments such as piano/keyboard/synth, bass, drums/percussion, beatmaking/ sampling, beatboxing, trumpet, saxophone, flute, mandolin, oud, harmonica, lap steel, panpipes and arranged it into loop style performances along with percussive guitar playing coinciding with a vocal range stretching 5 octaves.
