Born in Lagos, Nigeria, THEHONESTGUY is a soulful, sonic tour de force. Now based in Toronto, THEHONESTGUY has a strong penchant for melody and groove, and marries the spirit and sound of RnB and funk to create what he has coined as ‘FUNKY SOUL’.

THEHONESTGUY, who was exposed to RnB music in its prime, developed a deep love and passion for all facets of the genre. It is through songwriting that the artist, who grew up socially isolated, found solace and a way to pay homage to the music that gives his life meaning.

With two projects released to date, THEHONESTGUY has been able to capture audiences far and wide. His most recent project HOW TO MAKE LOVE has been the most monumental to his career; gaining a JUNO AWARD NOMINATION in the Traditional R&B category in 2023.

This project also received great support from Spotify, by featuring the artist in: SPOTIFY FRESH FINDS OF 2022, SPOTIFY BEST R&B SONGS OF 2022, SPOTIFY ARTIST TO WATCH IN 2023.

Early 2023, THEHONESTGUY follows up on his success with SOMETIMES I CRY, a single off his next EP, due summer 2023. With the use off “doo wops and lush harmonies” the song borrows from the 60s and 70s into a new era the artist calls “VELVET SOUL”.

Actuellement basé à Toronto, THEHONESTGUY a une forte inclination pour la mélodie et le groove, mariant l’esprit et le son du RnB et du funk pour créer ce qu’il a lui-même défini comme du “FUNKY SOUL”.

THEHONESTGUY, qui a été exposé à la musique RnB à son apogée, a développé un amour profond et une passion pour toutes les facettes du genre. C’est à travers l’écriture de chansons que l’artiste, ayant grandi dans l’isolement social, a trouvé du réconfort et une manière de rendre hommage à la musique qui donne un sens à sa vie.

Avec deux projets déjà sortis, THEHONESTGUY a su captiver un public de partout. Son projet le plus récent, intitulé “HOW TO MAKE LOVE”, a été le plus monumental de sa carrière, lui valant une NOMINATION AUX JUNO AWARDS dans la catégorie R&B traditionnel en 2023.

Ce projet a également reçu un grand soutien de Spotify, qui a mis en avant l’artiste dans les playlists suivantes : “SPOTIFY FRESH FINDS OF 2022”, “SPOTIFY BEST R&B SONGS OF 2022”, et “SPOTIFY ARTIST TO WATCH IN 2023”.

Au début de 2023, THEHONESTGUY fait suite à son succès avec “SOMETIMES I CRY”, un single extrait de son prochain EP prévu pour l’été 2023. Avec l’utilisation de “doo wops et d’harmonies riches”, la chanson puise dans les années 60 et 70 pour les insuffler dans une nouvelle ère que l’artiste appelle “VELVET SOUL”.

Singer, songwriter, activist and fierce defender of the LGBTI+ community worldwide, Bia Ferreira defines her music as MMP: Música de Mulher Preta (Black Woman Music). She broke into the public consciousness in 2017 with the track, Cota Não é Esmola, about the importance of the quota system for black people’s access to university. In addition to 13 million views on YouTube and several million plays on Spotify, the song became required reading for the entrance exam to the University of Brasília. She was nominated for the 2018 Women in Music Awards, and on her 2019 album, Igreja Lesbiteriana: Um Chamado, (Lesbitarian Church: A Calling), the messages are hitched to a carriage of funky rhythms, reggae and soulful ballad grooves. This year, she performed on Portugal’s biggest stages, including a memorable concert at LMM Sines.

Lydol, première slameuse finaliste au Prix Découvertes RFI, ouvrira cette édition 2024 du Mois de l’histoire des noirs. Ambassadrice de la Collaboration Afrique-Union Européenne en 2022, elle compte deux albums et plusieurs singles, tout en élargissant ses horizons artistiques. En plus de performances internationales, elle promeut activement le slam en dehors des cercles “intimistes” et dirige des festivals tels que PluriElles et Slam’Up. Fondatrice de la compétition Science Slam Cameroun, elle gère également l’Association SHEroes, soutenant les femmes victimes de violences. Ses ateliers d’écriture, Style haut à stylo, reflètent son engagement à coacher de nouveaux talents.

Lydol, the first female slammer to be nominated for the Prix Découvertes RFI, will open this 2024 edition of Black History Month. Ambassador of the Africa-European Union Collaboration in 2022, she has two albums and several singles to her name, while broadening her artistic horizons. In addition to international performances, she actively promotes slam outside “intimate” circles and directs festivals such as PluriElles and Slam’Up. Kabey Konate & Farafina Roots at Balattou

Kabey Konate, a singer from Burkina Faso, was born in the north-east of Côte d’Ivoire. Lulled as a child by the songs of his griot mother and the music of his older brother, a great percussionist, he took his first artistic steps in dance. Kabey Konate’s passion for music grew with him. In 2002, he recorded his first demo in Abidjan, before moving back to his native Burkina Faso in 2005 to pursue his career. Welcomed by the Kienou family, a large griot family from Ouagadougou, he joined the Burkinabé music scene as a percussionist alongside Madeni Kienou and his brother Dramane Konate. He accompanies Bil Aka Kora, Luis Marques and many others. He directed the musical part of the only African equestrian show, “La geste des étalons”. From festival to festival, he performed on national and international stages.

At the same time, he continued his career as a singer with a very personal style of reggae and world music sprinkled with Mandingo sounds. In 2006, Burkinabe audiences discovered his songs for the first time when he opened for Alpha Blondy. He released his first album, Douaou, in 2010, followed by a maxi album, Africa Elections, in 2014.

He has taken part in festivals such as “Historique du mandingue” (Mali), where he opened for Tiken Jah Fakoly, “Jazz à Ouaga”, “Reggea City” and “Les Journées d’Afrique” (Canada). He is currently working on his next album, due for release in 2017. Kabey Konate’s African-influenced vocals and lyrics are the hallmark of his third album.

Kabey Konate, artiste chanteur burkinabé, est né dans le Nord-Est de la Côte-d’Ivoire. Bercé tout petit par les chants de sa mère griotte et la musique de son frère aîné, grand percussionniste, il fait ses premiers pas artistiques dans la danse. Il se fait connaître dans sa ville natale à travers des concours de danse, puis de spectacles de rap lorsqu’il est au lycée.La passion musicale de Kabey Konate grandit avec lui. En 2002, il enregistre sa première maquette à Abidjan puis, en 2005, il rejoint son pays d’origine le Burkina Faso pour poursuivre sa carrière. Accueilli par la famille Kienou, une grande famille griotte de Ouagadougou, il intègre le milieu musical burkinabé en tant que percussionniste aux côtés de Madeni Kienou et de son frère Dramane Konate. Il accompagne Bil Aka Kora, Luis Marques et bien d’autres. Il dirige la partie musicale du seul spectacle équestre africain, « La geste des étalons ». De festivals en festivals, il foule des scènes nationales et internationales.

Il continue en parallèle sa carrière de chanteur avec un style très personnel de reggae et world music parsemé de sonorités mandingues. En 2006, le public burkinabé découvre pour la première fois ses chansons en première partie du concert d’Alpha Blondy. Il sort son premier album « Douaou » en 2010, puis un album maxi « Africa Elections » en 2014.

Il participe à des festivals, tels que « Historique du mandingue » (Mali) où il fait la première partie de Tiken Jah Fakoly, « Jazz à Ouaga », « Reggea City » ou encore « Les Journées d’Afrique » (Canada). Il travaille actuellement sur son prochain album qui sortira courant 2017. La voix et les textes imprégnés d’Afrique, fidèles à Kabey Konate, viennent colorer le troisième album de ce jeune artiste engagé.

Justin Adams & Mauro Durante au Upstairs

Justin Adams, guitariste, producteur et compositeur, a créé des merveilles avec Robert Plant au sein des Sensational Space Shifters. Ses productions sur les albums phares de Tinariwen et Rachid Taha mettent en évidence son sens du groove nord-africain, tandis que ses collaborations primées avec Juldeh Camara associent la tradition des griots à l’esprit brut du blues. Son travail avec des artistes tels que Jah Wobble et Sinead O’Connor est imprégné de l’esprit post-punk londonien, tandis que son album solo Ribbons a été cité par le magazine Songlines parmi les 50 meilleurs albums de la dernière décennie.

Cette nouvelle collaboration avec Mauro Durante trouve son origine dans un concert dirigé par Ludovico Einaudi, la légendaire Notte de Taranta dans les Pouilles, où les deux musiciens ont joué ensemble pour la première fois, se reconnaissant dans les rythmes de transe de Taranta, qui transcendent la “melancolia” ou le blues. Mauro Durante a fait le tour du monde pendant de nombreuses années avec Ludovico Einaudi, jouant du violon et des tambours sur cadre. Il est l’un des principaux interprètes du style pizzica du sud de l’Italie et dirige le groupe Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, qui a participé à de grands festivals dans le monde entier. L’année dernière, ils ont donné leur propre concert aux BBC Proms (où Justin Adams les a accompagnés) et ont remporté le prix du meilleur groupe aux Songlines Music Awards.

Justin Adams, guitarist, producer and composer, has been a creator of wonders with Robert Plant in the Sensational Space Shifters. His production on landmark albums by Tinariwen and Rachid Taha highlights his feel for North African groove, while his award-winning collaborations with Juldeh Camara linked griot tradition with raw blues spirit. His work with artists such as Jah Wobble and Sinead O’Connor was infused with the spirit of post-punk London, while his solo guitar album Ribbons was cited by Songlines magazine among the top 50 albums of the past decade.

This new collaboration with Mauro Durante stems from a concert led by Ludovico Einaudi, the legendary Notte de Taranta in Puglia, where the two first played together, recognising kindred spirits in the trance rhythms of Taranta which transcend “melancolia” or the blues. Mauro Durante toured the world for many years with Ludovico Einaudi playing violin and frame drums. He is one of the leading players in the pizzica style of Southern Italy and leads Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, who have played great festivals all over the world. Last year they were featured in their own concert at the BBC Proms (where Justin Adams guested with them) and they won Best Group in the Songlines Music Awards.

Adiouza at Balattou

The original ADIOUZA, in civilian name Adji Kane Diallo, is a Senegalese artist born in Dakar. At the age of 15, she took her first steps on stage alongside her older brother Cheikh Lo ouza Diallo (a pianist, singer and backing vocalist). It was he who introduced her to music, after she had caught the bug from her father Ousmane Diallo, known as Ouza, who remained a very popular singer because of his strong political commitment.Adiouza made her debut in the world music scene on the Paris stages, where she embraced a career with multiple influences, while remaining very attached to African sounds and rhythms. Her father passed on to her his passion for Senegalese music. Her mother, of Malian origin, introduced her to the great classics of griots and Mandingo artists.

While studying ethnomusicology and music theory (piano, drums and guitar) at Paris 8, she released her first album, “Maadou”, in 2009, a mbalax-beat opus tinged with jazz, soul and RnB. This was followed by a second album in 2013, entitled ‘Lima Doon’, and several singles, the latest of which, ‘Madame Bonheur’, released in November 2020, has racked up over 16 million views on YouTube. In 2022 she released her eponymous single MR Bonheur.

In 2010, she received two awards: Best Newcomer and Best Female Artist at the Sunu Awards.

Her singles Ma la Nob and Daddy were also nominated for the Burkina Faso Kunde and several Afrima awards.

With her beautiful voice, Adiouza is an atypical singer with a melody tinged with sounds that blend traditional African music with pop.

L’originale ADIOUZA, Adji Kane Diallo au civil, est une artiste sénégalaise née à Dakar. À l’âge de 15 ans, elle fait ses premiers pas sur scène aux côtés de son grand frère Cheikh Lo ouza Diallo (pianiste choriste et chanteur). “Nesraf” is a rhythmic and melodic movement in chaâbi and Andalusian music. The term means departure and refers to the people who have immigrated over the years. It is thanks to them that this heritage has been sung, shared and perpetuated in the four corners of the world.

The Nesraf group, made up of several musicians and singers, is the culmination of a decade of friendship and artistic collaboration. Together, they share a passion for Chaâbi music. The group had the opportunity to make its mark when it took part in the 24th edition of the Maghreb music festival (Nuits d’Afrique).

This style of music, whose precursor was none other than the illustrious El Hadj Mohamed El Anka, who popularized it in the early 30s, is the popular music of Algeria par excellence. It’s the music of the streets, cafés and ceremonies.

Whether in Algerian Arabic or Kabyle, the Nesraf group revisits chaâbi classics, adding a variety of arrangements and sonorities to each of their performances, offering us a musical promenade rich in rhythms and melodies.

Le « Nesraf » est un mouvement rythmique et mélodique dans la musique chaâbi et andalouse. Ce terme signifie le départ et fait référence aux personnes qui ont immigré au fil des ans. C’est grâce à elles que ce patrimoine a pu être chanté, partagé et perpétué dans les quatre coins du monde.

Le groupe Nesraf, composé de plusieurs musiciens et de chanteurs, est la concrétisation d’une dizaine d’année d’amitié et de collaborations artistiques. Ensemble, ils partagent une grande passion, celle de «la musique Chaâbi». Le groupe a eu l’occasion de se concrétiser lors de sa participation à la 24 ème édition du festival de musique du Maghreb (Nuits d’Afrique).

Ce style de musique dont le précurseur n’est autre que l’illustre El Hadj Mohamed El Anka qui l’avait popularisé au début des années 30 est la musique populaire algéroise par excellence. C’est la musique des rues, des cafés et des cérémonies.

Que ce soit en arabe algérien ou en kabyle, le groupe Nesraf revisite des classiques de la musique chaâbi, auxquels il rajoute des arrangements et des sonorités diverses, il nous propose ainsi, à chacune de leur prestation, une promenade musicale riche en rythmes et en mélodies.

Jean Jean Roosevelt is a born artist from the Grand-Anse region in southwest Haiti. His music draws on multi-ethnic influences, marked by a cultural melting pot that has existed on the island since the slave trade. Jean Jean Roosevelt combines Creole rhythms with reggae and Afrobeat influences. A socially committed artist with a rich repertoire tackling universal subjects, Jean Roosevelt is also a gold medallist at the 7th Jeux de la Francophonie Prix Tv5 Monde.

Jean Jean Roosevelt continues his career with his main motivation being to contribute to the reconstruction of his beloved Haiti and to the emergence of a more just and equitable world.

Originaire de la Grand-Anse, au sud-ouest d’Haïti, Jean Jean Roosevelt est un artiste né. Sa musique se nourrit d’influences multi-ethniques, marquées par un brassage culturel existant sur l’île depuis la traite négrière. “I try to create a traditional-modern mix so that our music can be listened to and danced to. Dicko Fils’ intention, legitimized by his voice spanning several octaves, is nothing less than to promote Peulh and Dioula traditions throughout the world, making them accessible to all audiences. This master of the ngoni, awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre du mérite by the Burkina Faso Ministry of Culture, worked in Mali and Côte d’Ivoire, experimenting with reggae and Wassoulou rhythms and drawing inspiration from such greats as Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré and Ali Farka Touré, before returning home and taking a stand for the democratization of his musical culture, adding popular rhythms such as coupé-décalé. This approach has won him a string of awards in West Africa.

« J’essaie de faire un mélange tradi-moderne pour que notre musique soit écoutée et dansée ». L’intention de Dicko Fils, légitimée par sa voix couvrant plusieurs octaves, n’est rien de moins que de promouvoir les traditions Peulh et Dioula partout dans le monde en les rendant accessibles à tous les publics. Ce maître du ngoni, fait Chevalier de l’Ordre du mérite par le ministère burkinabè de la culture, a roulé sa bosse au Mali et en Côte d’ivoire, touchant au Reggae et aux rythmes Wassoulou et s’inspirant des plus grands comme Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré et Ali Farka Touré, avant de revenir au pays et de prendre position pour la démocratisation de sa culture musicale, y adjoignant notamment des rythmes populaires tels que le coupé-décalé. Une approche qui lui a valu une ribambelle de prix en Afrique de l’Ouest.

Less Toches takes its name from a Latin-American bird, which is also a Colombian term for “clumsy.”

Humour and freedom trascend into a fresh and deep interpretation of the peasant and zesty spirit of Accordeon-based Colombian Cumbia. Pura parranda sabanera.

Less Toches emprunte son nom d’un oiseau latino-américain, et une expression colombienne voulant dire “maladroit”. L’humour et l’envol se traduisent en interprétation fraîche et deep de l’esprit paysan et riverain de la cumbia colombiana et la música de acordeón. Pura parranda sabanera.
