Dance for Ukraine, Palestine, Afghanistan

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Montreal’s underground music community comes together amidst, and against, the ever-present global atrocities at the hands of a few, suffering of the many.
Join us for a 6-hour-rave fundraiser. 100% of all profits will be donated to three charities actively delivering critical assistance in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Palestine.
We are conscious that there are ongoing conflicts in many other areas and have chosen the above three charities to balance wide reach with focused impact

FROM PIANO TO PODIUM: MOZART AND BRAHMS WITH YANNICK NÉZET-SÉGUIN

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Experience the concert hall right at home! Alongside renowned artists, the Orchestre Métropolitain and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin offer you magnificent concert webcasts (on demand), captured with state-of-the-art sound and video quality at the Maison symphonique de Montréal. Enjoy an enriched digital experience thanks to our complementary content: online concert programs and virtual preludes. Have a good time!

Yannick Nézet-Séguin will bring Mozart’s lyrical and bright Piano Concerto No. 12 to life in a rare appearance as both conductor and soloist with the OM. The concerto will be followed by Brahms’s third symphony—a sweet, melodic continuation of the OM’s Brahms symphony cycle.

The free-spirited but joyful symphony opens strong with three chords, setting the tone for a compact and unified piece. Mozart himself bragged that he composed the perfect piano concerto, a piece that could be enjoyed both by connoisseurs and the greater public. To start things off, Castro D’Addona’s Diversity gives Latin dance rhythms a classical touch.

Works by Bertrand and Dorion.

Enter the cosmopolitan universe of Simon Bertrand! Discovering the world shaped the music of this composer-adventurer, inspired by oriental and contemporary music, but also by pop (Björk, Radiohead) and jazz, presented in a single breath in a ritual conducive to one form encountering the “other”. Additional art forms (cinema, painting, poetry) are also invited to the party thanks to clever scenography, drawing an eclectic musical portrait of one of our most prolific composers.

Pro Musica : First concert of 2022 with Andrew Wan

by Rédaction PAN M 360

The new season of Pro Musica’s “Cartes blanches” series will be inaugurated by a first concert with the trio composed of Andrew Wan on violin, Brian Manker on cello, and Ilya Poletaev on piano. This concert, which will be recorded on January 23 for online broadcast, offers us a German program with works by Clara Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn.

Program :
Clara Schumann, Trio for piano, violin and cello in G minor, op.17
Felix Mendelssohn, Trio for piano, violin and cello No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

Clara Schumann, born Clara Wieck (1819-1896) was one of the greatest musicians of the Romantic era. Wife of composer Robert Schumann, she is considered the most outstanding pianist of her time, having considerably influenced the piano repertoire. She was the primary interpreter of her husband’s works and composed over 40 works, including the one performed in this concert.

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1947), born in Hamburg, was a conductor, pianist, and composer of the early romantic period. He left a very impressive body of work for his short life of 38 years (symphonies, concerti, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music). The trio in D minor op 49 is considered one of his masterpieces.

Musicians :
Andrew Wan, violin
Brian Manker, cello
Ilya Poletaev, piano

Andrew Wan was appointed concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) in 2008. As a soloist, he has performed throughout the world under such conductors as Vengerov, Petrenko, Labadie, Rizzi, Oundjian, Stern, and DePreist. He has performed with many artists including the Juilliard String Quartet, Repin, Hamelin, Trifonov, Pressler, Widmann, Ax, Ehnes, and Shaham.

Principal cellist with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra since 1999, Brian Manker pursues a diverse musical career as a performer and teacher. In addition to being a frequent performer with the MSO, Mr. Manker is a member of the Juno- and Opus-Award-winning New Orford String Quartet.

A musician with a fiercely inquisitive mind, impeccable technique, and an intensely poetic vision, Ilya Poletaev is equally at home on the modern piano and the historical keyboards: harpsichord, fortepiano, and chamber organ. Hailed as “one of the most important pianists of his generation” by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, he launched his career after winning first prize at the prestigious International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2010 – the only Canadian to have won the competition.

Recording on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Phi Center, 315 St. Paul Street West, Montreal. Buy your tickets here.

Available online from March 6 to 20. Information and tickets here.

Carmen… in Your Living Room!

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Opéra de Montréal presents a webcast of one of its most important recent productions, Bizet’s Carmen. Presented in 2019 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier, this great classic of the repertoire is the result of a collaboration with Quebec filmmaker Charles Binamé, who directed it. This new version of Carmen, directed by Pierre and François Lamoureux, features the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Opéra de Montréal chorus and the Petits chanteurs du Mont-Royal. In an all-Canadian cast, mezzo-soprano Krista de Silva lends her voice to the famous gypsy, tenor Antoine Bélanger assumes the role of the brigadier Don José, baritone Christopher Dunham plays the bullfighter Escamillo, and soprano France Bellemare sings the role of Micaëla.

by Rédaction PAN M 360

by Rédaction PAN M 360

PAN M 360 IS LAUNCHING A NEW 360 SESSION: LA VEILLÉE DE L’AVANT-TRAD, an artistic encounter between LE VENT DU NORD, flagship of Quebec trad music (which also presents its “Veillée de l’avant-veille”, as we know), and L’OUMIGMAG, a group of excellent young musicians who love trad music but also contemporary jazz, prog rock and contemporary music, including post-minimalism.

So? Since L’Oumigmag labels itself “avant-trad”, an eminently composite genre, and since Le Vent du Nord presents its annual Veillée de l’avant-veille, PAN M 360 offers you its VEILLÉE DE L’AVANT-TRAD!

THIS 360 SESSION ALSO REQUIRES THE ACTIVE PRESENCE OF THE AUDIENCE: SPECTATORS WILL BE INVITED TO ASK QUESTIONS TO THE ARTISTS AFTER THE CONCERT, ALL OF THIS ANIMATED BY ALAIN BRUNET. AS WE DID WITH SUUNS LAST SEPTEMBER.

THE EVENT TAKES PLACE THIS MONDAY, DECEMBER 20, 7:30 PM, AT STUDIO 110 OF THE STUDIOS DE ROUEN,

3935 DE ROUEN STREET, MONTREAL, QC H1W 1N4, A 5-MINUTE WALK FROM JOLIETTE METRO STATION.

Taurey Butler Trio Plays Upstairs

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Taurey Butler is a phenomenal jazz pianist of the highest calibre.

Hailing from East Orange, New Jersey, he has played in numerous cities across the world from Hong Kong to New York and now makes his home in Montréal. Taurey’s debut self-titled recording on the Justin Time label was released in November 2011 to resounding critical acclaim. He emerges as a fully-formed master of hard-driving swing with a deep feeling for the blues and ballads.

It’s easy to get lost in the fire and funk, the sweetness and swing, of Taurey Butler. But you can also follow the light that his music emanates.

by Rédaction PAN M 360

It’s the return of the “Veille de l’avant-veille” at Club Soda on December 30th.
