Evan Shay est un saxophoniste, réalisateur, compositeur, photographe et vidéaste basé à Montréal, QC. Originaire de Seattle, à Washington, il a déménagé à Montréal en 2010 où il a terminé ses études de premier cycle et de maîtrise en interprétation jazz à l’Université McGill. Il y étudie avec Remi Bolduc, Chet Doxas, John Hollenbeck, Chris McCann et d’autres. Son premier album solo a été publié en 2014, un EP intitulé Homeward. En 2017, Evan a été nommé parmi les « 35 Best Canadian Jazz Artists Under 35 » par CBC Music. Son groupe Lawful Citizen a sorti un EP éponyme en 2017 et un album Internal Combustion en 2018. En 2019, Shay a assisté au Banff International Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music, où son identité de réalisateur a vraiment commencé à prendre forme, apprenant de personnes telles que HPRIZM, Vijay Iyer, Tyshawn Sorey et Steve Lehman. Le 30 octobre 2020, il a fait paraître son premier album solo New Normal.

There he studied with Remi Bolduc, Chet Doxas, John Hollenbeck, Chris McCann and others. His first solo album was released in 2014, an EP entitled Homeward. In 2017, Evan was named one of the “35 Best Canadian Jazz Artists Under 35” by CBC Music. His band Lawful Citizen released a self-titled EP in 2017 and an album Internal Combustion in 2018. In 2019, Shay attended the Banff International Workshop in Jazz & Creative Music, where his identity as a filmmaker really began to take shape, learning from the likes of HPRIZM, Vijay Iyer, Tyshawn Sorey and Steve Lehman. On October 30, 2020, he released his debut solo album New Normal.
