FIMAV: Roscoe Mitchell solo

Sat 18 May 2024 • 08:00 pm saxophone
CARRÉ 150 (Cabaret G. Aubert) - Victoriaville 40$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

To celebrate the 40th edition of FIMAV in style, the legendary ROSCOE MITCHELL returns to Victoriaville for a solo concert. Although best known for his crucial role with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, MITCHELL has produced some of his finest music under his own name. This vast corpus includes compositions for orchestra (including a major collaboration with the Montreal-Toronto Art Orchestra, Ride the Wind, released by Nessa Records in 2017), his Note Factory ensembles and small-scale improvisation. Nevertheless, it is in his music for solo saxophone that the singularity of his musical research most stands out. In this context, a (sometimes improbable) musical source can undergo alchemical permutations of such intensity and audacity that one can only think of magic. In recent years, MITCHELL has devoted more time to painting and the visual arts. He recently exhibited at Chicago’s Corbett vs. Dempsey gallery. The man’s creativity and originality are inexhaustible.
