Dhol, tabla, darbouka: these ancestral rhythms summon the body to rise. Attan, Afghanistan’s national dance, is no longer confined to the closed circle: carried by Nigah Awj, it bursts into collective movement, where heritage meets contemporary pulse. Born in celebrations and evening gatherings, this whirling round dance has crossed centuries to become a shared language, where every step answers the one before it until the whole group moves as one. At Orientalys, the instruction is simple: join the circle and follow the tempo as it climbs, and climbs again, until the entire Old Port dances as a single body.
