Outre ses indéniables qualités de guitariste, d’improvisateur et de compositeur, FRED FRITH est aussi un grand pédagogue qui aime continuer à jouer avec ses élèves les plus doués. Le FRED FRITH TRIO s’est formé en 2013, à l’époque où il enseignait au Mills College à Oakland. Ses acolytes, JASON HOOPES et JORDAN GLENN, composent la section rythmique du groupe inclassable Jack o’ the Clock. À trois, ils ont développé un langage étoffé, un sens de l’improvisation aux racines rock qui rappellent l’indescriptible synergie qui régnait dans Henry Cow.
Ils ont publié deux albums chez Intakt, puis l’album double Road avec deux invitées : Lotte Anker et SUSANA SANTOS SILVA. Cette dernière, trompettiste portugaise résidant en Suède, connaît une carrière fulgurante ces derniers temps, que ce soit avec ses groupes Impermanence et Life and Other Transient Storms ou dans ses collaborations avec Anthony Braxton et Evan Parker, entre autres grosses pointures.
Artiste visuelle de renommée internationale, HEIKE LISS collabore régulièrement avec le trio. Elle mettra la musique en images dans un exercice de fusion des sens.
FRED FRITH, besides being a superior guitarist, improviser and composer, is also a fantastic teacher, and he loves to keep on playing with his most gifted students. The FRED FRITH TRIO came together in 2013, while he was still teaching at Mills College in Oakland. His partners, JASON HOOPES and JORDAN GLENN, make up the rhythm section of the unclassifiable rock band Jack o’ the Clock. The three of them have developed a substantial vocabulary with an approach to improvisation that is partly rooted in rock music in a way that brings to mind the undescribable synergy one found in Henry Cow.
The trio released two albums on the Intakt label, followed by the double CD Road recorded with two guests: Lotte Anker and SUSANA SANTOS SILVA. The latter, a Portuguese trumpet player currently living in Sweden, has been on a rocket-fuelled ascension lately, whether with her bands Impermanence, and Life and Other Transient Storms, or through collaborations with Anthony Braxton and Evan Parker, among other luminaries.
The world-renowned visual artist HEIKE LISS has been performing regularly with the trio. She will be improvising visuals with the musicians.
