Doté d’un son cinématographique et capable d’exprimer une large palette d’émotions, le groupe britannique Elbow s’est fait connaître du grand public grâce à son premier album acclamé, Asleep in the Back, sorti en 2001. Depuis, le groupe n’a cessé de produire des albums populaires aux arrangements complexes et raffinés.
Si leurs trois premiers disques ont suffi à les imposer comme des figures majeures de la scène britannique, c’est leur quatrième album, The Seldom Seen Kid (2008), qui les a véritablement consacrés. Lauréat du prestigieux Mercury Prize, cet opus marque aussi un tournant dans leur carrière, établissant un précédent pour leur démarche d’autoproduction.
Cette approche influencera leurs albums suivants, notamment Build a Rocket Boys! (2011) et The Take Off and Landing of Everything (2014), ce dernier devenant leur premier numéro un au Royaume-Uni.
