A devoted admirer of Schubert, Mendelssohn was among the first to recognize the greatness of his music and bring it to light. Under Philippe Herreweghe’s sensitive and luminous direction, this concert pays tribute to that artistic kinship. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, a masterpiece of elegance and lyrical inspiration, opens the evening in brilliant fashion.
