Festival International Nuits d’Afrique : Flavia Coelho à L’Olympia

Flavia Coelho a rempli l’Olympia de Paris en mars dernier. Sans aucun doute elle fera un succès de son spectacle en ouverture de cette 39ème édition du Festival international Nuits d’Afrique. S’émancipant de tous les stéréotypes, l’irradiante et insaisissable chanteuse, autrice et compositrice fait offrande de mélodies rayonnantes. Suave, elle joue parfaitement la carte de la langueur enveloppante aussi bien que celle de la gaieté communicative, s’amusant à allier avec élégance les samba, bossa-nova, pagode et forró du Nordeste aux reggae, amapiano, G-funk et house. Louangé par la critique, son dernier album, Ginga (2024), témoigne de son identité plurielle, qui s’est construite à la faveur d’une exposition à des influences musicales multiples, entre la banlieue parisienne et les favelas cariocas.

She plays the card of mesmerizing dreaminess as smoothly as that of infectious joyfulness, while playfully combining the musical genres from Brazil’s Nordeste like samba and forró with Bossa Nova and pagode along with reggae, amapiano, G-funk and house. Her critically acclaimed album, Ginga (2024), is a testament to the artist’s multilayered identity, shaped by her exposure to a wide range of musical influences from the Carioca favelas to the burbs of Paris.

Closing it, Wolf Eyes, the legendary Michigan noise trailblazer, joined by Pulitzer Prize-winner Raven Chacon. Soutenus par des percussions étourdissantes, ses slams et phrasés hip hop s’acoquinent avec des mélodies ouest-africaines entraînantes dans une combinaison unique, intense et ouverte sur le monde, qui en met plein la vue et les oreilles.

During his concerts, Joseph Samuel Malack, aka JSM L’Officiel, is so bursting with energy that he’s like an invigorating tonic. This versatile young artist, who studied at the École Nationale des Arts du Sénégal in Dakar, gives himself to his art, body and soul, taking his fans in all sorts of directions, much to their delight. Backed by dizzying percussions, he blends his slam poetry and hip hop phrasing with catchy West African melodies to create a unique combination, both intense and open-hearted, a feast for the ears that can’t help but impress!

« J’essaie de faire un mélange tradi-moderne pour que notre musique soit écoutée et dansée ». Ce maître du ngoni, véritable star au pays des hommes intègres, chante en dioula, en fulfuldé, en mooré et en français. Le Denké-Denké de Dicko Fils, résultante d’une combinaison de sonorités peules, d’afrobeat et de blues mandingue, flatté par une voix couvrant plusieurs octaves, lui a permis de rouler sa bosse partout sur la planète et d’être lauréat d’une ribambelle de prix en Afrique de l’Ouest. Pour célébrer ses 20 ans de carrière, Dicko Fils a sorti en 2025 un nouvel et 12e album, La Route (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025).

“I try to mix traditional with modern so that our music is great to listen and dance to.” This master ngoni player, a real star in the “land of honest people,” sings in Dyula, Fula, Mooré and French. His song “Denké-Denké,” a combination of traditional Fula music, afrobeat and mandinka blues, uplifted by the singer’s multi-octave vocal range, earned him a string of awards in West Africa and sent him touring the globe. This year, to celebrate the 20th year of his musical career, Dicko Fils released his 12th album, La Route (Disques Nuits d’Afrique, 2025).

LANDROSE est le projet solo de David Temprano, également membre du groupe Cere. Fusionnant musique électronique, expérimentale et sampling, avec une batterie aux influences noise-punk, il explore des sonorités audacieuses et un univers musical unique. Après un premier EP Self-Titled en 2022, son premier album Saveur Pey en 2024, LANDROSE revient déjà avec son nouvel album BRUT sous le label Hyperjungle Recordings. L’album a été conçu au fil des concerts, les morceaux se modifiant et évoluant à chaque performance. Il incarne une version plus affinée et énergique du projet, mettant en avant des compositions qui fusionnent la spontanéité du live et l’intensité d’une performance en solo. En concert, David déploie une énergie brute et immersive, tout en restant fidèle à une approche DIY et authentique.

LANDROSE is the solo project of David Temprano, also a member of the band Cere. Fusing electronic, experimental, and sampling music with noise-punk-influenced drums, he explores bold sounds and a unique musical universe. After a first EP Self-Titled in 2022, his first album Saveur Pey in 2024, LANDROSE is already back with his new album BRUT under the Hyperjungle Recordings label. The album was conceived over the course of concerts, the tracks changing and evolving with each performance. It embodies a more refined and energetic version of the project, highlighting compositions that merge the spontaneity of live performance with the intensity of a solo performance. In concert, David deploys a raw and immersive energy, while remaining faithful to a DIY and authentic approach.

Bad Waitress est un groupe punk-rock artistique et angoissé originaire de Toronto, en Ontario. Ils mélangent un punk rapide et direct avec des breakdowns sludgeux et indulgents et des riffs étrangement tordus. Ils ont sorti leur premier EP, le bien nommé Party Bangers Volume 1 en 2018, suivi d’un LP en 2021, No Taste. Ils ont tourné en Amérique du Nord et au Royaume-Uni avec des groupes comme Subhumans, Protest the Hero, NOFX et Jack White, et prévoient de sortir leur prochain album très prochainement.

Bad Waitress is an artsy angsty firefuck punkish band from Toronto, Ontario. They mix fast, to the point punk with sludgey indulgent breakdowns and uncanny twisted riffs. Le projet musical synth-pop Fleur de Peau est né en janvier 2023. Il est composé de Louis Fernandez, multi instrumentiste-réalisateur et Élie Dubois-Sénéchal à la voix. Le duo a décidé de joindre leur force et leur créativité pour faire naître un projet plus grand qu’eux, en honneur de leur amour commun pour l’art et la musique. Le son de Fleur de Peau est mélancolique, percutant et poétique. C’est un projet qui témoigne tantôt d’une réalité Queer et féministe, tantôt d’une approche personnelle et émotive de l’urgence de vivre. Avec le rythme de batteries teinté de réverbération et de drum machine robotique, on reconnait dans la musique de Fleur de Peau une influence des années 80 tout en restant ancré dans un son moderne et alternatif. On y entend des synthétiseurs brillants et des guitares tantôt dynamiques, tantôt lo-fi et sombres. Sans être minimalistes, les arrangements ne voilent pas l’essentiel. Le groupe a sorti un premier album au printemps 2024 dans lequel chacune des chansons possède son univers bien à elle. On peut y reconnaitre des influences électro, punk, dreampop et indie rock. On y trouve des mélodies vocales caressantes et des guitares dissonantes et abrasives.

The synth-pop music project Fleur de Peau was born in January 2023. It consists of Louis Fernandez, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, and Élie Dubois-Sénéchal on vocals. The duo decided to combine their strengths and creativity to give life to a project greater than themselves, in honor of their shared love for art and music. The sound of Fleur de Peau is melancholic, powerful, and poetic. It’s a project that at times reflects a Queer and feminist reality, and at other times offers a personal and emotional perspective on the urgency of living. With drum rhythms tinged with reverb and robotic drum machine beats, Fleur de Peau’s music carries a strong influence from the 1980s, while remaining rooted in a modern, alternative sound. You’ll hear shimmering synthesizers and guitars that range from energetic to lo-fi and dark. While not minimalist, the arrangements never obscure the essence of the music. The group released their debut album in spring 2024, with each track presenting its own distinct universe. The album draws influences from electro, punk, dreampop, and indie rock. It features tender vocal melodies alongside dissonant and abrasive guitars.
