Don Quichotte a inspiré un grand nombre d’œuvres d’art. Le prolifique Telemann en a fait une suite savoureuse comme le compositeur finlandais Sallinen, une œuvre concertante très originale et spectaculaire pour violoncelle qui fera ici appel à toute la virtuosité de Johannes Moser qu’on entendra aussi dans le plus célèbre concerto de C.P.E. Bach.

Don Quixote has inspired innumerable works of art, including a delightful suite by the prolific Telemann and a spectacular concertante piece for cello by Finnish composer Sallinen. In this performance, cellist Johannes Moser will showcase his full virtuosity in Sallinen’s work, then also appear in C.P.E. Bach’s most famous concerto.

Vous pourriez penser que cela ressemble beaucoup à Mozart … oui, en effet. Le style galant des deux plus jeunes fils de J.S. Bach va dans ce sens. Johan Christian était la super star du style galant, à l’aise dans les grands cours de Milan, Naples, Londres et Mannheim. Christoph Friedrich Bach, dans ses dernières années, bien qu’il soit toujours resté à Bückeburg, a copié le style de son frère et a manifestement bien étudié les symphonies de Haydn. Les compositions les plus abouties des deux frères font partie du programme de ce concert. Mozart a dit à son père dans une lettre de Paris en 1778 : « M. Bach (Johann Christian Bach) de Londres est ici depuis 14 jours, vous pouvez imaginer sa joie et la mienne lorsque nous nous sommes retrouvés. Je l’aime, comme vous le savez, de tout mon cœur. » Après avoir dirigé l’Orchestre du Festival en 2019, le chef allemand Reinhard Goebel revient pour son édition 2023, accompagné par la jeune pianiste Schaghajegh Nosrati dans un concert qui fera résonner la musique de la dynastie Bach.

You might think that sounds a lot like Mozart… yes, it does. The gallant style of J.S. Bach’s two youngest sons is a case in point. Johan Christian was the super star of the galant style, at home in the great courts of Milan, Naples, London and Mannheim. Christoph Friedrich Bach, in his later years, though still living in Bückeburg, copied his brother’s style, and was clearly a student of Haydn’s symphonies. The two brothers’ most accomplished compositions are included in this concert’s program. Mozart told his father in a letter from Paris in 1778: « Mr. Bach (Johann Christian Bach) from London has been here for 14 days, you can imagine his joy and mine when we met again. I love him, as you know, with all my heart. » After conducting the Festival Orchestra in 2019, German conductor Reinhard Goebel returns for its 2023 edition, accompanied by young pianist Schaghajegh Nosrati in a concert that will resonate with the music of the Bach dynasty.
