Summersett est un groupe d’art-folk issu de la scène théâtrale montréalaise. Ils se produisent à la fois en duo piano-voix (Nick Carpenter/Patricia Summersett) et en ensemble de huit musiciens, élargissant leurs chansons lunatiques avec une voix rayonnante et des arrangements de cordes luxuriants. Après la sortie de leur premier album (2015), Summersett a joué à Pop Montréal, à la Canadian Music Week, aux festivals Fringe et WildSide, aux Nuits d’Afriques et a été présenté au gala du 50e anniversaire du Centaur Theatre ainsi qu’aux prix ACTRA 2017. Ils ont été mis en nomination à deux reprises pour les Greenland Awards pour leurs prestations à la série musicale Fringe de Montréal.

Summersett is an art-folk band sprung from the stages of the Montreal theatre scene. They perform as both a piano-vocal duo (Nick Carpenter/Patricia Summersett) and an eight-piece ensemble, expanding their moody songs with radiant vocal and lush string arrangements. Following the release of their first album (2015), Summersett played Pop Montreal, Canadian Music Week, the Fringe and WildSide Festivals, Nuits d’Afriques and were featured at the Centaur Theatre’s 50th Anniversary Gala as well as the 2017 ACTRA Awards. They were twice nominated for Greenland Awards for their performances at the Montreal Fringe Music Series.

Lewis OfMan + Jazz Lambaux à la Sala Rossa

Avec des teintes de jeunesse et en même temps des touches de bandes sonores de films italiens des années 70, la musique de Lewis OfMan crée une atmosphère frissonnante où la mélancolie rencontre l’élévation et la joie. Il a commencé la musique en tant que batteur et a ensuite appris le piano et la guitare en autodidacte. Ses chansons, aux accords jazzy sophistiqués et aux percussions léchées, ont la volonté d’emmener son public dans une sphère d’émotivité partagée. Avec ses traits juvéniles, Lewis s’impose comme un précurseur.

With tints of youth and at the same time hints of 70’s Italian film soundtracks, Lewis OfMan’s music creates a shivering atmosphere where melancholia meets elevation and joy. He started music as a drummer and then learnt the piano and guitar by himself. His songs, with sophisticated jazzy chords and polished up percussions, have the will to take his audience along in a shared emotionalism sphere. With his youthful features, Lewis steps forward as a precursor.

Mareux à la Sala Rossa

Mareux est un projet de musique électronique du musicien et producteur Aryan Ashtiani, basé à Los Angeles. Des sorties comme « Cold Summer » et « The Perfect Girl » ont suscité un véritable culte, en particulier en Europe de l’Est et en Amérique du Sud. C’est le critique Fabrizio Lusso qui décrit le mieux le son de Mareux : « L’approche lo-fi de Mareux, chargée d’électronique, morose et fortement émotionnelle, est à cheval entre la synth-pop, la coldwave et le post-punk dans un mélange étonnant et contagieux de rythmes glaciaux épais, de nappes de synthé lustrées, d’éléments de bourdonnement épars, de pulsations de basse sombres et vigoureuses et d’une superbe voix passionnée, aromatisée d’un sentiment d’ombre et de goth triste, d’un flair séduisant des années 80 et parfois d’une subtile inflexion groovy r&b. »

Mareux is an electronic music project from LA based musician and producer Aryan Ashtiani. Le Double + Christopher Tignor à la Sala Rossa

Christopher Tignor est compositeur, violoniste, conférencier et ingénieur logiciel. Ses partitions chargées d’émotion et son approche unique de la pratique électroacoustique en direct, basée sur la performance, ont été acclamées par les communautés classique et expérimentale à travers 10 albums sur les labels Western Vinyl et New Albion. Il crée le logiciel de performance en direct qu’il utilise et qu’il partage librement. En tant que compositeur, il a écrit et enregistré des œuvres pour des ensembles tels que The Knights, l’orchestre à cordes A Far Cry et le quatuor à cordes Brooklyn Rider, et s’est produit à leurs côtés dans des salles de concert de premier plan, dont le Zankel Hall de Carnegie. En tant qu’arrangeur pour cordes, il a travaillé avec Helios, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, John Congleton, This Will Destroy You, Meshell Ndegeocello et plusieurs autres artistes aux frontières de la musique populaire.

Christopher Tignor is a composer, violinist, lecturer, and software engineer. His emotionally charged scores and unique focus on live, performance-based electroacoustic practice has won acclaim within both the classical and experimental communities across 10 LPs on the Western Vinyl and New Albion record labels. He creates the live performance software he uses, shared freely. As a composer he has written and recorded work for ensembles including The Knights, A Far Cry string orchestra, and Brooklyn Rider string quartet, performing alongside them at premiere venues including Carnegie’s Zankel Hall. As a string arranger he has worked with Helios, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, John Congleton, This Will Destroy You, Meshell Ndegeocello, and several other artists at the boundaries of popular music.

Depuis ses débuts en 2009, la création psych-pop de Rishi Dhir et de ses collaborateurs Miles Dupire (batterie) et Robbie MacArthur (guitare), ainsi que Jason Kent (clavier/guitare), a sorti cinq albums et deux maxis acclamés par la critique, effectué de nombreuses tournées en Amérique du Nord et en Europe, été nominée pour le prestigieux Prix de la musique Polaris et s’est attiré les louanges de personnalités telles que NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence of Sound, Rolling Stone, Clash Magazine et bien d’autres encore. En tant que joueur de sitar très apprécié, Dhir a également collaboré avec des icônes de l’indie-rock (Beck) et des groupes cultes légendaires (The Brian Jonestown Massacre).

Le groupe EarthKry est né et s’est développé dans les couloirs de l’Edna Manley College of The Visual & Performing Arts à Kingston, en Jamaïque, où quatre musiciens en herbe espéraient perfectionner leurs compétences. Leur voyage a commencé par un coup du sort qui a réuni le claviériste Phillip Mcfarlane, le batteur Kieron Cunningham, le bassiste Kamardo Blake et le chanteur/guitariste Aldayne Haughton, pour une série de petits concerts. S’inspirant de Bob Marley et des Wailers, des Beatles, de John Holt, de Peter Tosh, de Jacob Miller, de Black Uhuru et de Steel Pulse, le groupe a rapidement fusionné les genres Roots Reggae, Souls et Rock pour créer un son frais mais universel.

The EarthKry band was born and nurtured within the halls of the Edna Manley College of The Visual & Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica where four budding musicians hoped to hone their skills. Their journey began with a twist of fate which brought together keyboard player Phillip Mcfarlane, drummer Kieron Cunningham, bass guitarist Kamardo Blake and vocalist/guitarist Aldayne Haughton, to play a series of small gigs. Drawing inspiration from Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Beatles, John Holt, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Black Uhuru and Steel Pulse, the group soon cemented a wholesome fusion of Roots Reggae, Souls and Rock genres for a fresh but universal sound.

Le contrebassiste Hugo Blouin compose avec la musicalité de la vie. Son parcours est lié aux scènes jazz et folk, en passant par la chanson, la poésie et la musique actuelle.

Il s’intéresse aux mélodies et aux rythmes trouvés dans les sons concrets, en particulier dans la langue parlée. Un exemple souriant est le projet Charbonneau ou les valeurs à’ bonne place, composé à partir des archives de la commission d’enquête du même nom sur la corruption au Québec. Paru en 2018, le Volume 1 a remporté le prix GAMIQ de l’Album jazz de l’année et le prix OPUS du Concert jazz de l’année. Le Volume 2 paraît en février 2022.

Hugo Blouin a contribué à 25 albums à titre d’interprète, de compositeur et de réalisateur. Actif depuis une quinzaine d’années, son travail a été entendu au Canada, aux États-Unis et au Mexique, ainsi qu’en France, en Suisse, en Belgique, en Pologne et au Ghana. Il vit et travaille à Montréal.

Double bassist Hugo Blouin composes with the musicality of life. His background is linked to the jazz and folk scenes, through song, poetry and musique actuelle.

He is interested in melodies and rhythms found in concrete sounds, especially in spoken language. A smiling example is the project Charbonneau ou les valeurs à’ bonne place, composed from the archives of the commission of inquiry of the same name on corruption in Quebec. Released in 2018, Volume 1 won the GAMIQ award for Jazz Album of the Year and the OPUS award for Jazz Concert of the Year. Volume 2 will be released in February 2022.

MURRAY A. LIGHTBURN est compositeur, musicien, interprète et producteur de musique. Il est surtout connu comme le chanteur et principal auteur-compositeur du groupe de rock de chambre montréalais The Dears. Hear Me Out, qui sortira le 22 février 2019 sur l’étiquette Dangerbird Records, basée à Los Angeles, est le deuxième album solo complet de Lightburn, après l’album conceptuel expérimental MASS:LIGHT, paru en 2013.

MURRAY A. LIGHTBURN is a composer, musician, performer and music producer. He is best known as the lead singer and principal songwriter of Montreal chamber rock band The Dears. Hear Me Out, due Feb 22, 2019 on L.A.-based label Dangerbird Records, is Lightburn’s second full length solo album, following 2013’s experimental concept record MASS:LIGHT.

Festival Odd Sound à la Sala Rossa

La deuxième édition du Festival ODD SOUND aura lieu les 13, 14 et 15 avril prochain ! Un rendez-vous fédérateur pour tous les publics amateurs de de jazz et de musique instrumentale de création, un rendez-vous pour entendre et voir le jazz autrement.

Pour une deuxième année, le festival ODD SOUND prendra les scènes montréalaises pour célébrer les musiques jazz et instrumentales. Les 13, 14 et 15 avril prochains, une cinquantaine de musiciennes et musiciens, réunis en 7 concerts, fouleront les planches du Studio TD, de la Sala Rossa, du Dièse Onze et de Patro Vys pour offrir diverses performances de grande qualité. La présente édition va donc se déployer dans deux nouvelles salles associées au Festival.

Ce festival est mené par Jacques Kuba Séguin, Philippe Côté et Olivier Hébert, artisans de la musique à l’origine de la plateforme de création, de production et de diffusion ODD SOUND. Un rendez-vous fédérateur pour tous les publics amateurs de de jazz et de musique instrumentale de création. Pour entendre et voir le jazz autrement.

For a second year, the ODD SOUND festival will take the Montreal stages to celebrate jazz and instrumental music. On April 13, 14 and 15, some fifty musicians, gathered in 7 concerts, will take to the stage at Studio TD, Sala Rossa, Dièse Onze and Patro Vys to offer a variety of high quality performances. This year’s edition will be held in two new venues associated with the Festival.

This festival is led by Jacques Kuba Séguin, Philippe Côté and Olivier Hébert, music artisans at the origin of the creation, production and distribution platform ODD SOUND. A federating event for all jazz and creative instrumental music lovers. To hear and see jazz differently.
