Adaptation scénique d’un maxi collaboratif homonyme produit lors d’un séminaire intensif de 9 jours, l’événement réunit 15 artistes et 7 producteurs, le collectif Appart (Ngoundieu, LIL DEEZY, DAMNIBRA, Hakey Law, Kyūsei, ALONE), le collectif SSK (FIRELOX, K-Lowww, Trippple), KaMa, Nawfal, neimo, Lil Yann, ET-N et Isac Finaan.

Produced by L’Agence Lumos Montréal, an important player on the urban scene and the force behind the freestyle competition Freshman Triumph and the annual festival Once in a Blue Moon, beloved by a whole community of emerging and independent artists—the special event OIABM: GEMINI (OIABM standing for Once in a Blue Moon) marks the banner’s 5th anniversary in grand style. Lio – Outsider, from Within

Lio est animé par une esthétique hypnotique qui traverse aussi bien ses sets épurés que son travail d’ingénierie acoustique. Cofondateur de Hypnotic Ltd, il explore une approche minimale et ancrée dans le jazz, toujours guidée par l’écoute profonde. Formé en ingénierie du son à SAE Paris, il a façonné les environnements sonores de nombreux clubs et studios de Beyrouth en tant que consultant acoustique de référence. Sous divers alias (Spoken, Monosapien, Dubwiser), il navigue entre les genres, sans jamais perdre le fil de la transe. Aujourd’hui basé à Montréal, il poursuit son chemin aux côtés de Duchesse en organisant des événements intimistes qui enrichissent discrètement mais sûrement la scène locale.

Lio is a Lebanese-born sound designer, producer, and DJ whose hypnotic sensibility runs through everything he touches—from stripped-back club sets to acoustic design. Since launching his first label, Hypnotic Instincts, in 2013, and later co-founding Hypnotic Ltd, he’s pursued a fluid, jazz-leaning minimalism rooted in deep listening. Trained in audio engineering at SAE Paris, Lio’s technical precision extends beyond music. As an acoustic consultant, he helped shape the sonic environments of Beirut’s key clubs and studios, becoming a trusted behind-the-scenes force in the city’s nightlife. In parallel, his artistic output spans aliases like Spoken, Monosapien, and Dubwiser—each a channel for his evolving relationship with rhythm and repetition. Now based in Montréal, he continues to host intimate gatherings with his partner Duchesse, offering quiet but impactful contributions to the local scene.

Garden of Magic

Basée à Toronto, Daria Morgacheva, alias Dora, façonne un univers sonore singulier avec Garden of Magic, son projet solo où ses racines en piano classique et jazz s’entrelacent à des textures électroniques vibrantes. Ses performances, entre grooves techno et nappes atmosphériques, se vivent comme des instants suspendus, guidés par des improvisations au clavier et du sampling en direct qui capturent l’instant présent.

Toronto-based artist Daria Morgacheva, known on stage as Dora, channels her classical and jazz training into Garden of Magic, a solo electronic project where lush piano improvisations collide with deep rhythmic textures. Navigating a rich terrain between techno pulses and ambient expanses, Dora’s performances unfold as immersive rituals—moments of collective resonance crafted through instinctive live sampling and improvisation.

Bergsonist – 3alam-building: Intuitional Psychoanalytic Reveries

Bergsonist est le projet de l’artiste et compositrice Selwa Abd, née au Maroc et basée à New York, dont la pratique interdisciplinaire englobe son, vidéo et recherche en design. S’inspirant du minimalisme, de la musique concrète et des traditions électroacoustiques, elle explore intuitivement les croisements entre technologie, identité fragmentée et futurs spéculatifs.

Bergsonist is the alias of Moroccan-born, New York-based artist and composer Selwa Abd, whose work spans sound, video, and design research. With an intuitive approach rooted in minimalism, musique concrète, and electroacoustic traditions, she explores the intersections of technology, fragmented identity, and speculative futures.

Al Wootton (DJ Set)

Al Wootton est un producteur et DJ originaire du sud de Londres, dont l’affinité profonde pour le rythme tisse un lien subtil entre dub-techno, psychédélisme percussif et bass music expérimentale. Connu dans un premier temps sous le nom de Deadboy, il s’impose à la fin des années 2000 avec des morceaux de garage brut et émotionnel, capturant l’énergie insatiable de l’underground britannique. Plongé dès son plus jeune âge dans la culture du vinyle et la scène club londonienne, Wootton assimile un large éventail de sons, du 2-step et du UK garage au post-punk et à l’ambient, qu’il distille progressivement en une forme musicale à la fois méditative et viscérale. Sa musique puise autant dans la physicalité des dancefloors que dans des espaces introspectifs, presque rituels.

Al Wootton is a South London producer and DJ whose deep-rooted affinity for rhythm threads through dub-techno, percussive psychedelia, and experimental bass music. Rivers of Nihil au Théâtre Fairmount

Groupe novateur de death metal progressif et technique originaire de Reading, en Pennsylvanie, Rivers of Nihil s’est d’abord fait un nom dans l’underground metal avant d’élargir son public avec la sortie de Where Owls Know My Name en 2018, qui s’est classé au Billboard. Le groupe a continué à intégrer des éléments progressifs dans son son avec The Work en 2021, un album aux structures changeantes, qu’ils ont réédité en version instrumentale en 2024.

An innovative progressive and technical death metal band from Reading, Pennsylvania, Rivers of Nihil courted the metal underground before expanding their fan base with the release of 2018’s Billboard-charting Where Owls Know My Name. The group continued to integrate more progressive elements into their sound on 2021’s shape-shifting The Work, which they reissued in an instrumental version in 2024.

Fusion éclatante d’art, de mode et de styles musicaux allant du jazz manouche à la pop en passant par diverses traditions latines, Monsieur Periné s’est imposé dès le début des années 2010 comme l’un des ensembles les plus créatifs de Bogotá. Dès la sortie de leur premier album en 2012, certifié disque d’or, le groupe attire l’attention et remporte en 2015 le Latin Grammy du Meilleur nouvel artiste. Mené par la voix douce et expressive de la chanteuse Catalina García, le groupe livre en 2018 Encanto Tropical, un troisième album qui marie la scène latinx contemporaine à des boléros passionnés, des tangos jazzy et de somptueuses ballades romantiques.

A vivid confluence of art, fashion, and musical styles ranging from gypsy jazz, pop, and various Latin traditions, Columbia’s Monsieur Periné emerged in the early years of the 2010s as one of Bogotá’s most creative ensembles. After their 2012 debut earned gold status, the group was named Best New Artist at the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards. Fronted by dulcet-voiced singer Catalina García, their third album, 2018’s Encanto Tropical, blended elements of the contemporary Latinx scene with bolero torch songs, jazzy tangos, and lush romantic ballads.

Venez vous ouvrir les oreilles et le cœur. Avec : Black Ox Orkestar, Matana Roberts, Sam Shalabi Septet, et Erika Angell. Une soirée à ne pas manquer, sous les étoiles.

Black Ox Orkestar est un groupe reconnu pour son mélange unique de klezmer, de musique folklorique balkanique et de musique expérimentale. Leurs créations fusionnent traditions et modernité, évoquant souvent une atmosphère à la fois mélancolique et évocatrice.

Matana Roberts est une saxophoniste, compositrice et expérimentatrice sonore de renommée internationale, basée à New York. Son œuvre puissante et stimulante explore les intersections de la mémoire, de l’histoire, de l’identité et de la justice sociale, ce qui lui vaut d’être considérée comme une figure majeure de la musique américaine contemporaine.

Erika Angell est une chanteuse, auteure-compositrice et multi-instrumentiste, surtout connue pour son travail avec le groupe Thus Owls. Ses projets solos mettent en lumière sa prestation vocale captivante et son approche nuancée de l’indie folk et de la pop expérimentale.

Sam Shalabi Septet, dirigé par le prolifique musicien égypto-canadien Sam Shalabi, explore un éventail diversifié d’intérêts musicaux. Black Ox Orkestar: Known for their unique blend of klezmer, Balkan folk, and experimental music, Black Ox Orkestar creates a sound that is both traditional and contemporary, often evoking a melancholic and evocative atmosphere.

Matana Roberts is an internationally renowned saxophonist, composer, and sound experimentalist based in New York City. Their powerful and thought-provoking work explores the intersections of memory, history, identity, and social justice, leading some to describe them as “one of the most important figures in contemporary American music.”

Erika Angell is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Erika Angell is best known for her work with the band Thus Owls. Her solo material often showcases her captivating vocal delivery and a nuanced approach to indie folk and experimental pop.

Sam Shalabi Septet: Led by the prolific Egyptian-Canadian musician Sam Shalabi, the Septet likely explores his diverse musical interests, which span from experimental Arabic music and avant-garde jazz to noise and electronic music. Expect intricate compositions and improvisations that push genre boundaries.

Violons du Roy at Bourgie: symphonic excitement from Old France

Les Violons du Roy closed the 24-25 season at Salle Bourgie last night with a program of musical bubbles worthy of Mme Cliquot. The symphony “à la française” was in the spotlight. Mind you, not Franck’s or Ravel’s, but rather the first symphony, that of the origins. We’re talking here about Gossec and Rameau, as well as a certain Duport whom most music lovers, even those in the know, have never heard.

Under the direction and thematic construction of Nicolas Ellis, the program kicked off with a sparkling symphony by François-Joseph Gossec (1734-1829), a composer still much underestimated today. And yet, this little three-movement work, one of the 49 or so he composed, has much to seduce and delight: dashing melodies, an orchestration of exciting contrasts and cheerful rhythms make it a highly recommended listening pleasure for anyone with a passion for the vivacity of a Mozart or Haydn.

This was followed by a Cello Concerto, No. 6 in D minor, by Jean-Louis Duport (1749-1819), apparently a great virtuoso of the instrument in question. There’s no doubt about it, given the formidable nature of this score, and I weigh my words carefully. When you consider that even such a luminary as Raphaël Pidoux, a member of the Wanderer Trio (which is no mean feat), is not always able to emerge unscathed from the technical pitfalls imposed by Duport, it’s clear that this work represents a formidable challenge. That said, Pidoux has injected a dose of elegance and lyricism (very lyrical central andante cantabile) that is utterly seductive, and has been well received by the public, and rightly so. Here’s a work that deserves to attract the most seasoned of today’s soloists: there’s plenty to do!

The final part of the concert featured Jean-Philippe Rameau’s (1683-1764) “cosmic symphony”. The what? No, Rameau didn’t really write a “cosmic symphony”. In fact, it was a construction by conductor Nicolas Ellis, who drew on Rameau’s repertoire of operas and ballets to concoct a vast fresco in four movements evoking the creation of the world, the seasons, the earth, the wind, storms and even time. A fifth movement, a return to the interstellar, depicted the explosion of a supernova and featured a piece by Jean-Féry Rebel (1666-1741), Chaos, taken from his Élémens.

Ellis’s architecture works very well: the contrasts between the pieces create a narrative line that refuses to bore, and makes judicious use of some of the composer’s well-known tunes.

What impressed most – and this will come as no surprise – was the striking limpidity and surgical technicality of Les Violons du Roy. What a pleasure to hear this quality of playing, these abrupt contrasts perfectly achieved, these flights of tenderness chaining together piquant shears, and this perfect rapport with the discourse of the scores. Nicolas Ellis conducts with infectious freshness.

Ces dernières années, Thundercat, alias Stephen Bruner, est passé du statut de bassiste virtuose à celui de star et a consolidé sa réputation de voix unique, transcendant les genres.
Son album It Is What It Is, sorti en 2020, a remporté le prix du meilleur album de R&B progressif lors de la 63e édition des GRAMMY Awards. Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Arrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, Pedro Martins et Zack Fox ont participé à l’enregistrement. L’album a été produit par Thundercat et son partenaire de longue date Flying Lotus, qui a été nommé au GRAMMY dans la catégorie « Producteur de l’année, non classique » pour son travail sur l’album.

In recent years Thundercat, aka Stephen Bruner, has completed his transition from virtuoso bassist to bonafide star and cemented his reputation as a wholly unique voice, transcending genre.
His 2020 album It Is What It Is won “Best Progressive R&B Album” at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, and featured Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Steve Lacy, Lil B, Kamasi Washington,  Steve Arrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, Pedro Martins and Zack Fox. The record was produced by Thundercat and his longtime partner Flying Lotus who was GRAMMY-nominated in “Producer of the Year, Non-Classical” for his work on the album.

Festival International de Jazz de Montréal : Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue à la scène TD

Trombone Shorty, nom de scène du tromboniste, compositeur, chef d’orchestre, auteur et philanthrope Troy Andrews, incarne l’esprit vibrant de La Nouvelle-Orléans. Enfant prodige, il fait ses débuts aux côtés de Bo Diddley à l’âge de quatre ans, dirige son propre brass band à six, puis part en tournée avec Lenny Kravitz à treize ans.
Son style est à son image : flamboyant, puissant et énergique, mais aussi capable de nuances chaleureuses, expressives et tendres. Grâce à sa connaissance encyclopédique de la tradition des fanfares de La Nouvelle-Orléans, il peut interpréter ce répertoire dans sa forme la plus pure tout en le fusionnant à ses propres compositions, qui mêlent funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, soul et blues.
Son premier album, Trombone Shorty’s Swingin’ Gate, paraît en 2002. Il signe ensuite chez Verve Forecast et connaît un succès critique et public avec Backatown (2010), For True (2011) et Say That to Say This (2013) — trois albums qui atteignent la première place des palmarès jazz contemporain et lui valent une reconnaissance internationale.
Fier de ses racines dans le quartier de Treme, Andrews fonde la Trombone Shorty Foundation, par laquelle il offre personnellement des instruments de qualité à des écoles et jeunes musiciens locaux. En 2015, il publie Trombone Shorty, un livre pour enfants inspiré de son parcours, suivi en 2018 de The 5 O’Clock Band.
En 2017, il rejoint l’étiquette Blue Note pour l’album Parking Lot Symphony, qui reste en tête des palmarès jazz contemporain pendant sept semaines. Son deuxième album chez Blue Note, Lifted, sort en 2022 et confirme son statut d’ambassadeur moderne du son de La Nouvelle-Orléans.

Trombone Shorty is the stage name of New Orleans’ trombonist, composer, bandleader, author, and philanthropist Troy Andrews. A childhood prodigy, he debuted with Bo Diddley at age four, was leading his own brass band at six, and touring with Lenny Kravitz at 13.
Andrews’ inimitable sound is fat, brash, and aggressive one moment, and warm, moaning, and sweet the next. His encyclopedic knowledge of the brass band tradition allows him to play the repertoire straight as well as integrating it in his own compositions with funk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, soul, and blues.
His debut, Trombone Shorty’s Swingin’ Gate, was released in 2002. He signed to Verve Forecast for 2010’s major-label breakthrough, Backatown, followed by For True the following year, and Say That to Say This in 2013. All topped the contemporary jazz album charts and won global notice.
Fiercely devoted to his Treme neighborhood, Andrews created the Trombone Shorty Foundation, personally donating quality instruments to local schools and individuals. In 2015, he published Trombone Shorty.
He signed to Blue Note for 2017’s Parking Lot Symphony, which spent seven weeks atop the contemporary jazz charts. Andrews’ second kids’ book, The 5 O’Clock Band, was published in 2018. Lifted, his second Blue Note album, appeared in 2022.

N NAO, nommée Naomie de Lorimier, est une artiste née et basée à Montréal. Elle explore la romance expérimentale par la musique, la performance et la vidéo depuis des millions d’années. Ses compositions s’inscrivent dans une démarche écoféministe, inspirée de rêves et de rituels.
Son dernier album L’eau et les rêves (24 mars 2023 via Mothland) repousse les limites de la chanson entre sonorités électroniques et organiques. N NAO, born Naomie de Lorimier, is a Montreal-born and based artist who has been exploring experimental romance through music, performance, and video for what feels like millions of years. Her work is rooted in an ecofeminist approach, drawing inspiration from dreams and rituals.
Her latest album, L’eau et les rêves (released March 24, 2023 via Mothland), pushes the boundaries of songwriting with a blend of electronic and organic sounds. In addition to receiving praise from both audiences and industry professionals, the album earned her a spot on the 2023 Polaris Music Prize Long List. “Mostly composed ‘on guitar or with pedals,’ her new album is rich in melodies and instrumental flights while being deeply moving in its delicacy. The layers of sound build and intertwine beautifully,” wrote La Presse. In spring 2024, she released Miroir, a triptych-style EP exploring themes of witchcraft, secrecy, and spirals. The project was produced by Sylvain Deschamps (Klô Pelgag, Flore Laurentienne, VioleTT Pi) and accompanied by her first music video shot on film, made in collaboration with Léa Taillefer and selected by POP Montréal for their video showcase.

Le rappeur et producteur français Maître Gims (de son vrai nom Gandhi Djuna) est un artiste solo à succès, fondateur de la filiale française d’Universal Music, Monstre Marin Corporation, et ancien membre des groupes 3e Prototype et Sexion d’Assaut.
Né au Congo, Gims a déménagé en France avec sa famille à l’âge de deux ans. Le MC a grandi entouré de musique ; il est le fils du chanteur Djuna Djanana. Son premier single solo est sorti en 2006, mais plusieurs années se sont écoulées avant qu’il ne puisse se concentrer sur son propre travail. En mai 2013, il a sorti son premier album solo, Subliminal, porté par le succès en tête des classements du single J’me tire. L’album a manqué de peu la première place du classement officiel SNEP en France. Tout a changé avec l’arrivée du deuxième album, le double LP Mon cœur avait raison, certifié disque de platine, qui a atteint la première place en France et en Belgique. Ceinture noire, sorti en 2018, a également été un succès, avec des collaborations d’un grand nombre d’artistes, dont Lil Wayne, Sofiane et Vianney. Transcendance, une version rééditée et retravaillée de l’album, est sortie l’année suivante et comprend des contributions de Maluma, J Balvin, Dadju, Vitaa et Sting.

French rapper and producer Maître Gims (real name Gandhi Djuna) is a hit-making solo artist, the founder of French Universal Music subsidiary Monstre Marin Corporation, and a former member of the groups 3e Prototype and Sexion d’Assaut.
Born in the Congo, Gims moved to France with his family at the age of two. The MC grew up surrounded by music; he’s the son of vocalist Djuna Djanana. His first solo single was released in 2006, yet several years passed before he was able to concentrate on his own work. In May 2013, he released his first solo album, Subliminal, which was aided by the chart-topping success of the single “J’me Tire.” The set narrowly missed the top spot on France’s official SNEP album chart. That all changed with the arrival of album number two, the platinum-selling double-LP Mon coeur avait raison, which reached number one in both France and Belgium. 2018’s Ceinture noire was also a success and featured guest spots from a host of artists including Lil Wayne, Sofiane, and Vianney. Transcendence, a reissued and reworked version of the album, arrived the following year and featured contributions from Maluma and J Balvin, Dadju, Vitaa, and Sting.
