Rue Oberkampf à la Casa del Popolo

Fondé fin 2016 par trois DJ, Rue Oberkampf combine l’extase des années 80 avec l’atmosphère des temples de la danse de l’ère techno, enveloppés de brouillard et éclairés par des stroboscopes. La combinaison du dynamisme de la musique électronique urbaine avec les voix franco-allemandes-anglaises de Julia rappelle à certains critiques une version plus énergique de Deux ou de Kirlian Camera : mais en même temps, cela crée quelque chose d’entièrement original.

Founded at the end of 2016 by three DJ*s, Rue Oberkampf combines 80s ecstasy with the atmosphere of fog-shrouded, strobe-lit dance temples of the techno era. The combination of urban electronic music’s gritty drive with Julia’s French-German-English vocals reminds some critics of a more forceful version of Deux or Kirlian Camera: yet at the same time it creates something entirely original.

Rebecca Black au Fairmount

La chanteuse et compositrice californienne Rebecca Black est passée en l’espace d’une décennie du statut de vedette de la nouveauté à celui d’auteur pop avant-gardiste. Elle a connu le succès du jour au lendemain en 2011, alors qu’elle était encore une jeune adolescente, avec le tube viral “Friday”, qui est devenu l’un des singles les plus durables des années 2010. Tentant de s’éloigner de la notion de “one-hit-wonder”, elle a enchaîné avec d’autres titres qui ont figuré au tableau d’affichage. À la fin de son adolescence, elle a réapparu avec une électro-pop plus mature et réfléchie sur des titres comme “The Great Divide” en 2016 et “Anyway” en 2019. Ce son a été repris dans son EP de 2021, Rebecca Black Was Here. En 2023, sa réinvention sonore s’est concrétisée avec la sortie de son premier album officiel, le très hyperpop Let Her Burn.

Californian singer and songwriter Rebecca Black evolved from novelty sensation to a forward-thinking pop auteur in the span of a decade. She achieved overnight success in 2011 as a young teen with the viral smash “Friday,” which became one of the most enduring singles of the 2010s. Attempting to distance herself from one-hit-wonder territory, she followed with more Billboard-charting tunes. In her late teens, she re-emerged with a more mature, reflective electro-pop on songs like 2016’s “The Great Divide” and 2019’s “Anyway.” That sound carried over to her 2021 EP Rebecca Black Was Here. By 2023, her sonic reinvention was cemented when she finally released her official debut full-length, the hyperpop-heavy Let Her Burn.

Depuis leur formation pendant leur adolescence en 2006, The Menzingers ont montré leur force en tant que conteurs rugueux et trébuchants, produisant des chansons tout aussi enracinées dans l’énergie frénétique que dans les détails réalistes. À ce jour, le groupe a sorti six albums studio, dont le plus récent, Hello Exile, est sorti en octobre 2019. Produit par Will Yip (Mannequin Pussy, Quicksand), Hello Exile voit The Menzingers porter leur narration lyrique à un tout autre niveau et partager leurs réflexions sur des moments du passé et du présent : l’enfer du lycée, les relations troublées, le vieillissement et l’alcool, ainsi que l’ennui politique. Grâce à l’intimité du groupe, Hello Exile s’impose comme l’œuvre la plus audacieuse de The Menzingers sur le plan émotionnel.

Since forming as teenagers in 2006, The Menzingers have shown their strength as rough-and-tumble storytellers, turning out songs equally rooted in frenetic energy and lifelike detail. To date, the band has released six studio albums, with their most recent, Hello Exile, came out October 2019. Yves Tumor est le pseudonyme du producteur et auteur-compositeur-interprète américain Sean Bowie. Après s’être établi un peu partout aux États-Unis, il s’installe pour de bon à Turin, en Italie. Sa musique est parfois qualifiée de art-rock expérimental ou de post-chillwave. Tumor s’associe fréquemment à des artistes comme Mykki Blanco, Kelsey Lu, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) ou encore James Ferraro, toustes dans la mouvance alternative des genres qu’iels explorent.

Yves Tumor is the pseudonym of American producer and singer-songwriter Sean Bowie. After establishing himself throughout the United States, he settled in Turin, Italy for good. His music is sometimes referred to as experimental art-rock or post-chillwave. Tumor frequently joins forces with artists such as Mykki Blanco, Kelsey Lu, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) and James Ferraro, all of whom are part of the alternative movement of the genres they explore.

Haken are a modern progressive rock band hailing from London, England. Formed in 2007 by guitarist & keyboardist Richard Henshall and vocalist Ross Jennings, their sound has evolved from prog metal to a shapeshifting, kaleidoscopic amalgam of progressive metal, jazz syncopation, hooky electronic pop, and anthemic rock & roll.

Say Spirit et Véro Marengère à la Casa del Popolo

Say Spirit est le trio coopératif pancanadien de Colin Fisher, James Annett et Josh Cole. Basé principalement à Toronto et à Montréal, chaque musicien apporte une contribution essentielle à la communauté de la musique improvisée et créative. Ils sont connus pour leur souplesse et leur éclectisme stylistique dans le monde de la musique en général. La musique qu’ils font ensemble est tantôt lyrique, tantôt ardente et passionnée. Elle est guidée par une ouverture d’esprit, une sensibilité à l’écoute en tant qu’unité et le désir d’aller au-delà des capacités individuelles.

Véro Marengère est une artiste audiovisuelle qui vit et travaille à Montréal, Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang. Évoluant entre l’art vidéo 3D, la performance audiovisuelle et le design sonore, sa pratique s’intéresse aux formes hybrides d’Êtres et à la relation que nous entretenons avec l’aspect virtuel de la vie. Inspirée par l’animisme et la botanique, son esthétique colorée et sensible fait clin d’oeil à la contemplation, l’hybridité, la découture et la vitalité. Elle a présenté son travail notamment à Centre PHI, MUTEK, OFF Festival Jazz, AKOUSMA, MAPP Montreal, POP Montreal, Lumifest, La Cinémathèque Québécoise, Cafe OTO ainsi qu’à plusieurs autres événements d’envergure.

Say Spirit is the pan-Canadian co-operative trio of Colin Fisher, James Annett and Josh Cole. Now primarily based on Toronto and Montreal, each musician is vital contributor to the improvised and creative music community. They are individually known as flexible and
stylistically-eclectic collaborators in the music world at large. The music they make together is at times lyrical, at times fiery and passionate. It is is guided by an openness of spirit, a sensitivity to listen as one unit and the desire to move beyond individual capabilities.

Véro Marengère is an audiovisual artist that lives and works in Montreal, Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang. Evolving between 3D video art, live audiovisual performances and sound design, her practice reflects on hybrid forms of life and the relation we have with the virtual aspect of life. Inspired by animism and botany, her colorful and sensitive style recalls contemplation, hybridity, fragmentation and vitality. She has presented her work notably at PHI Center, MUTEK, OFF Festival Jazz, AKOUSMA, MAPP Montréal, POP Montréal, Lumifest, La Cinémathèque Québécoise, Cafe OTO and many more. She’s a member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CRIMMT). She has a graduate degree in digital arts – music from Université de Montréal.

Mareux à la Sala Rossa

Mareux est un projet de musique électronique du musicien et producteur Aryan Ashtiani, basé à Los Angeles. Des sorties comme “Cold Summer” et “The Perfect Girl” ont suscité un véritable culte, en particulier en Europe de l’Est et en Amérique du Sud. C’est le critique Fabrizio Lusso qui décrit le mieux le son de Mareux : “L’approche lo-fi de Mareux, chargée d’électronique, morose et fortement émotionnelle, est à cheval entre la synth-pop, la coldwave et le post-punk dans un mélange étonnant et contagieux de rythmes glaciaux épais, de nappes de synthé lustrées, d’éléments de bourdonnement épars, de pulsations de basse sombres et vigoureuses et d’une superbe voix passionnée, aromatisée d’un sentiment d’ombre et de goth triste, d’un flair séduisant des années 80 et parfois d’une subtile inflexion groovy r&b.”

Mareux is an electronic music project from LA based musician and producer Aryan Ashtiani. Releases like “Cold Summer” and “the Perfect Girl” sparked a cult following, particularly in Eastern Europe and South America. In describing Mareux’s sound, reviewer Fabrizio Lusso puts it best: “Mareux‘s moody and strongly emotional electronic laden lo-fi approach straddles the line between synth-pop, coldwave and post-punk in a stunning and infectious blend of thick glacial beats, lustrous synth stabs, sparse droning elements, vigorous bleak bass pulsations and a superb passionate voice, flavored by a mournful shadowy-goth feel, a seductive 80s flair, and sometimes subtle groovy r&b inflection.”
