Brian Jonestown Massacre at Le National

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Named after the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist (Brian Jones), thus consecrating his influence in the world of western rock’n’roll, The Brian Jonestown Massacre was born in 1990, more precisely in the San Francisco area. About 40 different members have been part of the band, but the undisputed leader is still the troubled, but very creative, Anton Newcombe.

The band has gone through many phases, but even today, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is an unavoidable reference when it comes to psychedelic rock. A band led by one of the most important standard bearers of this musical genre. Without a doubt, Anton Newcombe is the iconoclast par excellence of “pot” rock.

New Wave / Post-Punk

Kennyhoopla at L’Astral

by Rédaction PAN M 360

KennyHoopla emerged out of the Midwestern underground in the latter years of the 2010s with a series of buzz-worthy singles that merged aspects of new wave, post-punk, and R&B. One of the first signings to the newly launched Arista imprint Mogul Vision Music, he released his debut album, Survivors Guilt: The Mixtape//, in 2021.

Born Kenneth La’Ron in Cleveland, Ohio, Hoopla began making music at a young age, influenced by acts like Funeral Suits, Passion Pit, and the Drums. Based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his early tracks were loosely labeled rap, though his dark-toned, guitar-based songs and aching contemplative vocals had more in common with indie rock and alt-R&B. He gained traction both regionally and online with 2017’s “Waves//” single and its 2018 follow-up, “Sickness.” When Sony relaunched Arista Records in 2019, Hoopla was among the first acts to join the label’s new Mogul Vision roster, and he delivered the highly touted singles “Lost Cause//” and “Sore Loser//.” The buzz continued to grow as he relocated to Los Angeles and kicked off 2020 with the aggressive, post-punk-influenced “how will i rest in peace if i’m buried by a highway?//.” In 2021, he released the full-length Survivors Guilt: The Mixtape//, which featured contributions by drummer Travis Barker.

Turkish psych folk band Altin Gün is easy to fall in love with. The band, which hails from Amsterdam but comes from various backgrounds (Turkish, Indonesian, Dutch) creates music that opens doors between traditional Turkish folk songs and psych.
They’ve built a strong reputation for fusing past and present to make brilliantly catchy, upbeat pop music, as seen with their Grammy-nominated second album, Gece. Yol, their third album in as many years, continues that trend; while unveiling a number of sonic surprises.

Sampa the Great at l’Astral

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Born in Zambia, raised in Botswana, and now based in Melbourne, her upbringing continues to bear an influence on her music. Moving to Australia six years ago, the connections she made there have propelled her to where she now stands. Living in Sydney when she first arrived, it was the shock of losing a close friend which prompted her to take the leap to try to become an artist. Going to the city’s weekly Jazz Hip-Hop Freestyle sessions for the first time, she went on stage to join the band and continued to go there each week, building up a network of like-minded music heads. It was there that she connected with producer Dave Rodriguez (Godriguez), who she worked with on 2015’s “The Great Mixtape” and again for the ‘Blue Boss’ single. In 2016 Sampa released “Heroes Act 2” a collaboration with Estelle and Rahki as part of a project with Red Bull Sound Select. Following the success of “BEE9”, Sampa capped off 2018 with new single ‘Energy’ – premiered via Zane Lowe’s show on Apple Music’s Beats 1 and clocking up over 1M views on Youtube. She also recently collaborated with Denzel Curry on his Triple J ‘Like A Version’ session.

INFINI 8: Le Couleur, Ormiston, Paupière, Radiant Baby and Russell Louder at Société des Arts Technologiques

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Lisbon Lux Records is proud to present INFINI 8 projections, for the label’s 8th anniversary.

For this mini virtual festival, there will be 5 performances from fabulous artists and 5 different stages set by Pestacle.

You’ll see and hear these Lisbon Lux artists :

Le Couleur

Montreal trio Le Couleur, created by Laurence Giroux-Do (vocals), Patrick Gosselin (bass), and Steeven Chouinard (drums), delivers rich and irresistibly danceable performances.

In the album’s music, we find vintage influences, recalling the faded charm of 70s erotica, warm tones also rooted in psychedelia, disco, yéyé, and French chanson.

Radiant Baby

Radiant Baby, aka Félix Mongeon, comes from the Montreal music scene. His most recent album, Pantomime, draws inspiration from 70s vintage, passing through glam rock, punk, disco, and new wave. The fiery and rough energy of his music cultivates paradoxes, juxtaposing vulnerable, melancholic, and romantic ambiance, similar to artists such as Bowie, Blondie, Suicide, Pulp, and Serge Gainsbourg.

Ormiston

Ormiston is the solo project of Montreal born Nicola Ormiston. Singer-songwriter and producer of a sunny and laidback sound, somewhere between indie-pop, chillwave, and yacht rock where you can find influences from Toro Y Moi, MGMT, and electro-disco.

Russell Louder

Russell Louder (they/them) is a trans artist originally from Prince Edward Island, living part-time in Montreal and Charlottetown. They make electro-pop that’s carried by a powerful clear voice reminiscent of Florence and the Machine, London Grammar, Austra, Eurythmics, or La Roux. You only have to see Russell Louder in concert once to fall for the luminous and authentic world they built, both poignant and danceable, just like their music.

Paupière

Paupière

Mixing British synth-pop and French songs, Paupière is a “neo-romantic” band. Now led by Julia Daigle (visual artist) and Pierre-Luc Bégin (Polipe, We Are Wolves), they are a glamorous and flamboyant Montreal duo with an underground sensuality that creates a pop that is both naïve and profound. If one can hear echoes of Human League, Deux or Depeche Mode, their intertwined voices sing of the adolescent and hedonistic romanticism of the 80’s as much as contemporary disenchantment.

Lou Laurence at Quai des Brumes

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Don’t come to her shows to mosh; come to make out, to laugh, to write a letter, to hear a story, and to leave with a story to tell. Come to have a time.

Don’t come to her shows to mosh; come to make out, to laugh, to write a letter, to hear a story, and to leave with a story to tell. Come to have a time.

Lou is tall, but her voice is taller. Her vocal style has been described as a blend of Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, and more recently, Billie Holiday.

Lou Laurence’s style is jazzy blues-pop. Her songs combine simple blues-style dialogue with humor, love, and a deep, sweet, soul.

Her big vocal sound is accompanied by rhythmic home-modified baritone ukuleles (acoustic and electric).

Lou has played everywhere from large festivals to Montreal metro stations; dirty pubs to classy corporate gigs. Her performances combine storytelling with her songs rooted in raw emotion, witty lyrics, and catchy melodies.

Dragonforce at Corona Theater

by Rédaction PAN M 360

Known as the fastest band in the world, Grammy-nominated extreme power metal band DragonForce is based in London, England. Their platinum-selling record, Through the Fire and Flames, brought them international acclaim and was featured as the most-challenging song on Guitar Hero III. Their energetic and humorous live performances have won them fans on every continent.

The group is known for their long, complex and fast guitar solos performed by Herman Li and Sam Totman, who founded the band after meeting through a classified ad in 1999. Since then, the band has released seven studio albums, including Valley of the Damned (2003), Sonic Firestorm (2004), Inhuman Rampage (2006), Ultra Beatdown (2008), The Power Within (2012), Maximum Overload (2014), and Reaching into Infinity (2017). Drawing from a wide range of influences, the band’s sound combines the sing-a-long choruses of classic 80′s rock with triumphant, uplifting melodies and fantasy-themed power-metal-inspired lyrics. As a nod to their passion for all things video-game related, the band frequently incorporates retro game sounds and melodies into their recordings and live shows.
