Two Friends is the musical creation of longtime companions Matt Halper and Eli Sones. The dance-pop duo’s fitting name is a reflection of their bond as both musical collaborators and best friends. Two Friends are pioneering an artistic identity that is simultaneously relatable as it drives fans to the dance floor.

David is an innovative singer/songwriter and astonishing guitar player, known for his spontaneously driven live performances. His songs have an open alt/folk style that’s also been described as “Beatlesque”.
Zuffalo was formed out of a shared love for bands such as the Beatles, Grateful Dead and James Brown. One night in Toronto in 2016, Mikey and Kim recruited Sean to play guitar and create their own blend of music with these heroes in mind; later meeting Eric who joined in 2019. With a mutual interest in improvisation, boosted by the jazz training of all band members and Kim’s music therapy background, the Zuffalo players love to weave notes and beats around each other and paint new musical ideas on the fly.

Pour donner vie au répertoire de cette légende musicale, l’OSM a réuni une formation à l’image de celle que privilégiait Piazzolla, soit le piano, le bandonéon, le violon la guitare et la contrebasse. Dans ce concert qui témoignera de l’importance de la musique baroque dans l’œuvre du maître argentin, le public sera enhardi par la présence de deux danseurs, dont les pas sont inextricablement liés aux airs de tango.
A virtuoso bandoneon player regarded as the greatest tango composer of the 20th century, Astor Piazzolla is celebrated in this strongly accented Argentinian concert. To bring the repertoire of this musical legend to life, the OSM will assemble a group of musicians reflecting Piazolla’s favoured ensemble: piano, bandoneon, violin, guitar, and double bass. In this concert highlighting the importance of Baroque music in the works of this Argentinian master, audiences will also be conquered by the panache of two dancers whose steps are inextricably bound to the tango melodies being performed.
Le flûtiste Arin Sarkissian remportait le Concours OSM 2020 à 21 ans, l’âge qu’avait Mozart lorsqu’il composa son Premier quatuor avec flûte : un petit bijou de style galant. Mais avant, le public aura la chance de découvrir deux œuvres pour cordes, incluant un trio de l’Américain et missionnaire en Égypte John Antes, écrit vers 1780 alors que ce dernier récupérait après avoir été capturé, puis relâché par des disciples ottomans. La pièce de Jean-Pierre Guignon, quant à elle, donne à entendre une version virtuose pour deux violons du célèbre air des Sauvages de Jean-Philippe Rameau (titre de 1727), immortalisé son l’opéra Les Indes galantes.
Flutist Arin Sarkissian won the OSM Competition in 2020 at the age of 21 – Mozart was the same age when he composed his Flute Quartet no. 1, a gem of the style galant. Preceding this work, audience members will have the chance to discover two pieces for strings, including a Trio by American composer and missionary in Egypt John Antes, written around 1780 while he was recovering after being captured, then released by Ottoman adherents. The piece by Jean-Pierre Guignon, meanwhile, features a masterful version for two violins of the famous tune from LesSauvages by Jean-Philippe Rameau (titled in 1727), immortalized in his opera Les Indes galantes.

Through their written works, the authors featured in this concert offer a window onto their perceptions of the world, which are intimately bound up with nature. They discuss love, the relationship between living beings and the land, fertility, and sensuality. Texts by Marie-Andrée Gill (Innu), Leanne Simpson (Anishinaabe), Virginia Bordeleau (Cree and Métis), Jean Sioui (Wendat) and Katarina Vermette (Métis) will converge with music by Vaughan Williams, Piazzolla, Ravel, and by the Canadian composer of Cree ancestry Andrew Balfour.

Active on the music scene for over twenty years, Johnston has performed and recorded with many of the worlds best, including John Abercrombie, Don Alias, Shirley Jeff Johnston is a Canadian based jazz pianist, film composer, and educator. His works are infused with alluring harmonies, lush textures, rhythmic inventiveness and spontaneity. Chuck Berg of Jazz Times Magazine wrote “This is music, that while at the contemporary cutting edge, is both immediately and immensely satisfying.” Johnston’s trio and quartet recordings established him as one of the country’s most respected pianists and composers, leading the Toronto Star’s Geoff Chapman to deem Johnston as “clearly in Canada’s top ranks” and the Globe and Mail’s Mark Miller to say ” This is Canadian jazz at it’s best”.

The OSM presents two monumental figures of the silent film: Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Enjoy their timeless humour in Behind the Screen (1916) and The Blacksmith (1922), both slapstick comedies in which the protagonists display a series of blunders and right moves. For this highly unique evening, screenings will be enhanced with live accompaniment by three seasoned improvisers: clarinetist André Moisan, percussionist Michel Berthiaume and organist Jean-Willy Kunz. There’s no telling what this cinematic concert has in store for us!

The organization firmly believes that social struggles and oppression interconnects people of colour and racialized minorities in a global level. Art and music has historically been a medium to release anger, create conscience and direct change to specific struggles. Therefore,they aim to create a platform for local displaced, migrant bipoc and lgbtqia2+ artists to connect with international acts, as well as build a stronger community, create social conscience and share the struggles that interconnect us using punk music as a primarily medium.

If you’ve followed Gus Dapperton’s career from the bright and charming early singles and EPs to 2018’s full-length album Where Polly People Go to Read, you’ll have recognized that the singer-songwriter-producer has entered new territory on his latest release Orca. The album explores human pain and suffering, but also healing and redemption. Gus’s creative decisions in pursuit of a raw sound to match these raw emotions didn’t come easily. “I’m a huge advocate for putting myself in vulnerable positions in my music,” he says but admits that confronting these feelings “was a chance to be open that I was afraid of.”
