Harmonium Symphonique – La création originale à la Place des Arts

Le concert « La création originale », faisant partie de la triologie Histoires sans paroles – Harmonium symphonique, sera présentée pour la première fois à Montréal dans la Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.

Cette version conjugue des tableaux vivants empreints de poésie et de lyrisme, accompagnée d’une touche d’animation multi-média grâce à la technologie de PixMob à qui l’on doit notamment les effets spéciaux du plus récent spectacle de la mi-temps du Superbowl. Vous serez complétement plongé dans l’univers vibrant et coloré d’Harmonium!

La spectacle, inspiré de l’album Histoires sans paroles – Harmonium symphonique, arrangé par Simon Leclerc, sera interprété par l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM), le guitariste Sylvain Quesnel, le Chœur des jeunes de Laval, et dirigé par la cheffe Dina Gilbert. Les chanteuses Kim Richardson et Luce Dufault viendront aussi chacune prêter leur voix sur une chanson.

The concert “The Original Creation”, part of the Histoires sans paroles – Harmonium symphonique trilogy, will be presented for the first time in Montréal at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.

This version combines lyrical, dreamlike tableaux, with a touch of multi-media with the technology of PixMob, whose special effects lit up this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. You will be completly immersed in the vibrant, colorful world of Harmonium!

The show, inspired by the album Histoires sans paroles – Harmonium symphonique, arranged by Simon Leclerc, will feature the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM), guitarist Sylvain Quesnel, and the Chœur des jeunes de Laval under conductor Dina Gilbert. Singers Kim Richardson and Luce Dufault will each appear onstage for one song.

Mais un élément bien plus pernicieux oppose les deux hommes, inconscients du lien fraternel qui les unit. Azucena, elle, détient ce secret familial et compte bien s’en servir pour venger la mort de sa mère.

Vous verrez ainsi l’immense auteur, compositeur et chanteur revisiter ses plus grandes chansons en compagnie de ses huit musiciens. Une performance soutenue par diverses projections vidéo spectaculaires, sur un écran géant de la taille de deux maisons.

(CANCELLED) Birkin-Gainsbourg Le Symphonique

In 2016, the OSM and the Francofolies de Montréal introduced Birkin-Gainsbourg Le Symphonique, which Jane Birkin has been carting around the world ever since. This is a second opportunity to rediscover the great classics born of the collaboration between Gainsbarre and Birkin, a mythical couple if ever there was one. It is also an opportunity to realize the classical content of these brilliant songs, orchestrated for 72 musicians by Nobuyuki Nakajima, and once again performed by Jane in memory of her “Sège”.

« Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy »

With 15 instalments and as many or more auxiliary releases, Final Fantasy remains fantastic but shows no sign of finalizing anything. Over a third of a century, the video-game franchise has retained its place as an all-time great for gamers, a paradigm-shifter on par with Pac-Man and Pong. Unsurprisingly, its music has a Pavlovian emotional resonance for legions of gamers globally, particularly that of the revered Final Fantasy VII. Three years after their first spin through Montreal on the 20^th anniversary of that lucky seventh entry, Grammy winner Arnie Roth again unsheathes his might baton again and conducts the 100-piece Distant Worlds orchestra and choir through the game’s musical history, accompanied by projected visuals. VII’s sounds get a place of honour on the programme, but so do some numbers from the most recent Final Fantasy XV. These were composed by the concert’s special guest, Yoko Shimomura (pictured here), whose memorable, emotive melodies, and intrepid intermingling of classical and current pop, have placed her at the pinnacle of video-game soundtrack production.

Drum Tao 2020

How many musicians can you think of that include daily long-distance runs, calisthenics and martial arts training in their practice schedule? That’s what’s required of the percussionists in Japanese ensemble Tao, which since 1993 has brought the fearsome thunder of traditional taiko drumming, enhanced by flavours from elsewhere in Asia and a striking theatrical flair, to stages around the world. Excitement is guaranteed when they start clubbing the skins at Place des Arts.
