Originally from Lévis, Quebec, baritone William Dorais completed a college diploma in music at Cégep de Sainte-Foy with mezzo-sopranos Lysianne Tremblay and Linda Dumont. He had the exceptional good fortune to be guided by pianist/musical and vocal director Claude Soucy, and to receive expert advice from renowned stage director and “leader of today’s opera scene” François Racine. Winner of an Award of Excellence at the 2022 Cégep de Sainte-Foy Musical Expression Prize Gala, William particularly distinguished himself during his college career by winning 1st prize in the “Vocal (18 years old)” category of the Canadian Music Competition. He was awarded McGill University’s prestigious Schulich Scholarship, which enabled him to complete a Bachelor’s degree with renowned Canadian baritone Brett Polegato and pianist/vocal coach Louise Pelletier. In 2023, William won 1st prize in his category at the Concours de La Relève Musicale de Québec, as well as the French melody prize donated by baritone Jean-François Lapointe and the prize awarded by jury president Rachel Martel for best stage presence in the competition’s “Maîtrise” category. The same year, he also won 1st prize in the “Classical Singing” category of the Sherbrooke Music Competition.
Originaire de Lévis, au Québec, le baryton William Dorais a complété un diplôme d’études collégiales en musique au Cégep de Sainte-Foy avec les mezzo-sopranos Lysianne Tremblay et Linda Dumont. Il a eu la chance exceptionnelle d’être guidé par la pianiste/directrice musicale et vocale, Claude Soucy, et de recevoir les conseils avisés du renommé metteur en scène et “chefs de file de la scène lyrique actuelle”, François Racine. Lauréat d’un prix d’excellence à l’issue du gala 2022 du Prix d’expression musicale du Cégep de Sainte-Foy, William s’est particulièrement distingué pendant son parcours collégial en remportant le 1er prix dans la catégorie “Chant (18 ans)” du Concours de musique du Canada. Il est récipiendaire de la prestigieuse Schulich Scholarship de l’Université McGill, qui lui permet de décrocher un baccalauréat avec le célèbre baryton canadien, Brett Polegato, et la pianiste/coach vocal, Louise Pelletier. En 2023, William a remporté le 1er prix de sa catégorie au Concours de La Relève Musicale de Québec, ainsi que le prix de la mélodie française offert par le baryton Jean-François Lapointe et le prix de la présidente du jury, Mme Rachel Martel, pour la meilleure présence scénique dans la catégorie “Maîtrise” du concours. Il remporte également, la même année, le 1er prix de la catégorie “Chant Classique” du Concours de musique de Sherbrooke.

The Schulich School of Music is proud to present its first McGill Honor Band, a one-day event for senior high school students on Friday, March 15, 2024! Designed to provide an intensive harmony experience for students in Secondary 3, 4 and 5, the Honor Band will allow students to work with some of the Schulich School of Music’s outstanding teachers. Coordinated and directed by Dr. Danielle Gaudry, and supported by its partners the Fédération des harmonies et des orchestres symphoniques du Québec and the Québec Band Association, McGill’s Harmonie d’honneur will include a full day of rehearsals, culminating in a concert at 7:30 p.m. featuring the McGill Wind Orchestra.
L’École de musique Schulich est fière de présenter sa première Harmonie d’honneur de McGill, un événement d’une journée pour les élèves du deuxième cycle du secondaire, le vendredi 15 mars 2024 ! Conçu pour offrir une expérience intensive d’harmonie aux élèves de troisième, quatrième et cinquième secondaire, l’Harmonie d’honneur permettra aux élèves de travailler avec certains des professeurs exceptionnels de l’École de musique Schulich. L’Harmonie d’honneur de McGill, coordonnée et dirigée par Dre Danielle Gaudry et soutenue par ses partenaires de la Fédération des harmonies et des orchestres symphoniques du Québec ainsi que le Québec Band Association, comprendra une journée complète de répétitions et se terminera par un concert à 19h30, lors duquel sera également invité l’Orchestre à vent de McGill.
