Arion Orchestre Baroque – Aci, Galatea e Polifemo

Taking a brief summer respite from his busy Roman sojourn, Handel travelled further south to Naples from May to July 1708, where he was commissioned to write Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, a serenata for the wedding of Duke d’Alvito and Beatrice di Sanseverino. A small, intimate opera for three voices and orchestra without chorus, the work is distinguished by the variety of its instrumental accompaniment, which includes oboes, recorders and trumpets in addition to strings and basso continuo. The sung arias and recitatives are not to be outdone, taking us from the most languorous sighs to the most extreme virtuosity. We welcome for the first time the award-winning Italian conductor and harpsichordist Francesco Corti, principal guest conductor of the orchestra il Pomo d’Oro.

Prenant un bref répit estival de son séjour romain fort occupé, Handel se rend plus au sud à Naples de mai à juillet 1708, où on lui avait commandé Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, une serenata pour les noces du duc d’Alvito et de Beatrice di Sanseverino. S’agissant d’un petit opéra intime, à trois voix et orchestre sans chœur, l’œuvre se distingue par la variété de son accompagnement instrumental où l’on retrouve, outre les cordes et la basse continue, hautbois, flûtes à bec et trompettes. Les airs et récitatifs chantés ne sont pas en reste, nous menant des soupirs les plus langoureux à la virtuosité la plus extrême. Nous accueillons pour la première fois le chef et claveciniste italien primé Francesco Corti, chef invité principal de l’orchestre il Pomo d’Oro.

Trio Fibonacci – Les grands romantiques à la Salle Bourgie

Parcourez le XIX^e siècle en compagnie de trois de ses illustres représentants. Chopin, de la première génération des romantiques, se distingue avec son premier et unique trio teinté de poésie et de rythmes dansants. Charriant à la fois la fougue de sa jeunesse tout en laissant entrevoir la profondeur de son œuvre à venir. On reste ensuite dans l’élégance d’un salon français avec la musique de Cécile Chaminade. La compositrice, dont cette pièce allait établir la réputation, fascine en effet par son lyrisme touchant de sincérité qui mêle l’intime au grandiose. Outre-Rhin, Brahms écrivait à la même époque un de ses grands chefs-d’œuvre crépusculaires. Son Trio n° 3, d’une expressivité émouvante, dévoile en effet le monde sentimental et passionné de celui qui deviendrait le plus universel des grands romantiques.

Take a journey through the 19th century with three of its most illustrious representatives. Chopin, from the first generation of the Romantics, stands out with his first and only trio, filled with poetry and dancing rhythms. It conveys both the ardour of his youth and offers a glimpse of the depth of his work to come. The music of Cécile Chaminade evokes the elegance of the French salons. This composer, whose reputation this piece was to establish, fascinates us with her touchingly sincere lyricism, which combines the intimate with the grandiose. At the same time, across the Rhine, Brahms was writing one of his great twilight masterpieces. His movingly expressive Trio No. 3 reveals the sentimental and passionate world of the man who would become the most universal of the great romantics.

A South American Voyage With Rafael Payare and Javier Perianes

The OSM and Rafael Payare welcome pianist Javier Perianes for a musical excursion to South America.
