Celebrated on the world’s most prestigious stages, each one of French pianist Anne Queffélec’s performances is an unforgettable event. Back at Bourgie Hall after a highly-acclaimed appearance in 2018, she will delight the public with a two-part recital. The first half will comprise works by three composers born in 1685: Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel and Domenico Scarlatti, while the second will feature Schubert’s exquisite D. 960 piano sonata.

Valérie Milot et Stéphane Tétreault – Transfiguration

Transfiguration est un concert-expérience qui met en scène la harpiste Valérie Milot et le violoncelliste Stéphane Tétreault dans un environnement numérique et cinématographique envoûtant. Une expérience totale est proposée au public, tant sur le plan visuel qu’auditif. À travers une mise en scène où la musique se retrouve transformée par le biais d’images projetées, la relation entre les deux musiciens évolue jusqu’à la transfiguration finale.
Transfiguration, starring harpist Valérie Milot and cellist Stéphane Tétreault, is a total concert experience in which its artists are immersed in a digital and cinematographic environment. Audiences will be visually and auditorily captivated by this mise en scène, wherein music is transformed by projected imagery and the dynamics between the two musicians evolve until the final transfiguration.

L’intégrale du prodigieux corpus des cantates sacrées de Bach se poursuit! La musique du maître triomphe dans une abondance de chœurs somptueux, une infinie variété de coloris instrumentaux et une profondeur mélodique unique.
Dans ses cantates, Bach choisissait ses instruments avec soin, soucieux tant de leurs coloris que de ce qu’ils pouvaient symboliser. Le violoncelle piccolo est un petit instrument à cinq cordes au registre un plus haut que le violoncelle et produisant une sonorité plus lumineuse. Sous le manche, la viole d’amour comprend un groupe de sept cordes qui, non touchées par l’archet, vibrent par sympathie en créant un délicat effet de hâlo.
Performances of the complete cycle of J.S. Bach’s prodigious sacred cantatas continue! The great master’s music triumphantly resounds in an abundance of sumptuous choruses, an infinite variety of instrumental colours and unsurpassed melodic depth.
Bach always carefully chose his instruments for his cantatas, out of concern for their colour as much as for their symbolism. The violoncello piccolo is a diminutive five-stringed instrument of a higher register than the cello and possessing a brighter sound. Below its fingerboard, the viola d’amore displays a set of seven strings that are not played directly with the bow, but vibrate in sympathy with notes that are.
