Ivo Dimchev is a theatre maker, choreographer, visual artist, singer-songwriter, and queer activist from Bulgaria. His work is an extreme and colorful mix of performance art, dance, theater, music, painting, and photography. He is the author of more than 40 stage performances and has received numerous international awards for dance and theater. Most of his stage performances are inluded in his book Stage Works 2002-2016. He has also written more than 100 original songs all included in his Songbook. His work has been presented throughout Europe, South and North America, and Asia.

It’s about my relationship with my family and myself. It’s about finding yourself old when you’ve still got so much to live for. It’s about my internal contradictions, the 1,000 polarized debates in my head, and apple pie. A constant battle between dogs, cats and everything in between.
Etienne Dufresne fait des efforts is an album whose only concept is a long, honest title. The fruit of the reflections of a guy who decides to change for the better, and who’s going to have to work hard to get there.
Etienne Dufresne fait des efforts, c’est 10 chansons écrites alors que la magie entourant mon premier album “Excalibur” s’estompait pour laisser place à une réalité que je négligeais.
Ça parle de mon rapport à ma famille et à moi-même. Ça parle de se trouver vieux alors qu’il nous reste tellement de choses à vivre. J’y aborde mes contradictions internes, les 1000 débats polarisés qui habitent ma tête en passant par les tartes aux pommes. Une bataille constante entre les chiens, les chats et tout ce qui se trouve au milieu.

Le 4 février à La Sala Rossa, nous somme fiers de présenter la création de ‘what came before me is going after me’ du compositeur Zihua Tan (Malaisie/Canada), pour quintette amplifié mettant en vedette Sarah Albu (voix), Geneviève Liboiron (violon), Audréanne Filion (violoncelle), Daniel Áñez (ondes Martenot) et Noam Bierstone (percussions), avec Gabriel Dufour-Laperrière à la sonorisation. what came before me is going after me se délecte du potentiel sonore de diverses techniques instrumentales étendues en interaction avec des microphones non conventionnels. Des hydrophones, des géophones et des capteurs électromagnétiques sont utilisés pour capter les bruits résiduels de l’eau, des objets et de l’air – tels que le bourdonnement des champs électromagnétiques et le pétillement des bulles – brouillant et déformant le continuum des sons d’avant-plan et d’arrière-plan.
On February 4 at La Sala Rossa, we are proud to present the world premiere of ‘what came before me is going after me’ by Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based Malaysian composer Zihua Tan, for amplified quintet featuring Sarah Albu (voice), Geneviève Liboiron (violin), Audréanne Filion (cello), Daniel Áñez (ondes Martenot), and Noam Bierstone (percussion), with Gabriel Dufour Laperrière on sound. ‘what came before me is going after me’ revels in the sonic possibilities of extended performance techniques and interactions coupled with unconventional microphones. Hydrophones, geophones, and electromagnetic pickups are used to pick up residual noises of water, objects, and air—such as the buzz of electromagnetic fields and the fizz of bubbles—blurring and distorting the continuum of foreground/background sounds.
