Chef d’orchestre, organiste et claveciniste japonais, Masaaki Suzuki est diplômé de l’Université des arts de Tokyo en direction d’orchestre et en interprétation d’orgue. Il poursuit sa formation à Amsterdam dans les classes de Ton Koopman et de Piet Kee au Conservatoire Sweelinck. Après avoir enseigné en Allemagne de 1981 à 1983, il retourne au Japon et fonde, en 1990, le Bach Collegium Japan, ensemble de musique ancienne maintes fois primé pour son raffinement esthétique, dans le but de faire découvrir au public japonais la musique baroque, notamment par l’entremise de l’interprétation de celle-ci sur instruments d’époque. En 2014, Suzuki et le Bach Collegium Japan se sont vus décerner le prix ECHO-Klassick de la «Meilleure réalisation éditoriale» pour leur enregistrement de l’intégrale des cantates d’église de Bach, initié en 1995. Considéré comme l’un des spécialistes de l’œuvre du Cantor de Leipzig, Suzuki collabore régulièrement avec d’autres ensembles et orchestres en Europe et en Amérique du Nord tels l’Orchestre symphonique de Baltimore, l’Orchestre de la Radio Nationale Danoise, le Leipzig Gewandhausorchester et l’Orchestre philharmonique de New York dans des répertoires allant du XVIIIe au XXe siècle. Après Julian Prégardien, Reinhard Goebel, Václav Luks, et Jean-Claude Picard, Masaaki Suzuki dirige l’Orchestre et le Chœur du Festival Bach pour son édition 2022. Fidèle à la tradition des grands festivals internationaux, l’orchestre, fondé en 2018, rassemble des musiciennes et musiciens de grands talents du Québec et d’ailleurs au Canada.

Japanese conductor, organist, and harpsichordist Masaaki Suzuki graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in conducting and organ performance. He continued his training in Amsterdam in the classes of Ton Koopman and Piet Kee at the Sweelinck Conservatory. After teaching in Germany from 1981 to 1983, he returned to Japan and in 1990 founded the Bach Japan Collegium, an early music ensemble that has won numerous awards for its aesthetic refinement, with the aim of introducing Japanese audiences to baroque music, particularly through its performance on period instruments. In 2014, Suzuki and the Bach Japan Collegium were awarded the ECHO-Klassick Award for “Best Editorial Achievement” for their recording of the complete Bach church cantatas, initiated in 1995. Considered one of the leading specialists in the work of the Leipzig Cantor, Suzuki regularly collaborates with other ensembles and orchestras in Europe and North America, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Danish National Radio Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, in repertoire ranging from the 18th to the 20th centuries. After Julian Prégardien, Reinhard Goebel, Václav Luks, and Jean-Claude Picard, Masaaki Suzuki will conduct the Bach Festival Orchestra and Choir for its 2022 edition. In keeping with the tradition of the great international festivals, the orchestra, founded in 2018, brings together musicians of great talent from Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.
