While Funeral and Neon Bible took us on existential voyages of epic proportions, The Suburbs steers us towards a more earthy, grounded trip. Here we find subjects of Americana, of vapid dreams and invisible gates, sinister stories told with a glimmer of hope through the nostalgic eyes of youth and a twist of Springsteen. Guitar strumming with a sense of great urgency, signature orchestral arrangements, the synth pop explosion of “Sprawl II”, and a return to innocence reflected in the childlike vocals of Regine Chassagne — one thing for sure, Arcade Fire sticks to tradition when it comes to keeping us all up in our feels.
