S’inspirant du travail de pionniers d’artistes tels que Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire et Suicide, le sombre groupe avant-industriel Skinny Puppy s’est formé en 1982 à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique. À l’origine, il s’agissait d’un duo composé du batteur de Vogue, Kevin Key (né Kevin Crompton), et de Nivek Ogre (alias Kevin Ogilvie). Après leur première cassette, Back and Forth, Skinny Puppy a sorti en 1984 l’EP Remission, premier d’une longue série d’enregistrements réalisés avec le producteur David “Rave” Ogilvie.
