Fri 22 Aug 2025 • 12:00 pm Alt Folk / Bluegrass / Indigenous peoples
Jardins Gamelin - Montréal Gratuit
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Since her performance in Montreal at The First People’s Festival in 2015, Esther Pennell has been on a path of musical self-discovery. She has graced the stages in Montreal every year since then. Being a part of the first International Indigenous Music Summit in February 2019 and sharing the stage with Leela Gilday at the First People’s Festival 2019 in Montreal were the highlights of the year for Esther. In 2021, she was nominated for the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award for Best Country Album. Her folk bluegrass vibe, and a voice that has often been compared to Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLachlan, has been entertaining her fans all over Quebec and Northern Ontario for the last 5 years. As a songwriter, Esther’s life experiences are the catalyst for her songs about feminine resilience, heartache and joy. Staying grounded through her spiritual connection with the natural world and drawing inspiration from her east coast Mi’kmaq heritage. Esther’s unique style on the 5-string banjo makes her an innovator and a fresh presence in the world of folk music. Songs of strength, love and connection to heritage are Esther’s gift to all of us.
