Le Festival de Lanaudière présente Mozart et Hamelin au sommet

Deux des plus grands pianistes de chez nous, deux fidèles de Lanaudière, deux collègues qu’un patronyme rapproche (bien qu’ils n’aient aucun lien de parenté), réunis sur une même scène pour la première fois ! Certes ni Marc-André Hamelin, ni Charles Richard-Hamelin n’ont besoin de présentation, mais ils se rencontrent à l’invitation du Festival autour de l’exquis Concerto pour deux pianos de Mozart, et retrouvent les Violons du Roy et leur fondateur Bernard Labadie.

Two of the country’s greatest pianists, two performers loyal to Lanaudière, two colleagues who share a name—though they are not related—perform together on the same stage for the first time! Marc-André Hamelin and Charles Richard-Hamelin need no introduction. They are together at the invitation of the Festival, to perform Mozart’s exquisite Concerto for Two Pianos, and to reunite with Les Violons du Roy and their founder Bernard Labadie.

The Psychedelic Furs au MTELUS

Si vous disséquez la musique rock alternative d’aujourd’hui, vous constaterez qu’elle rend en grande partie hommage aux Psychedelic Furs. Menés par le chanteur et auteur-compositeur Richard Butler et son frère Tim, qui manie la basse, les Furs ont enregistré de grands succès comme « Love My Way », « Pretty In Pink », « Heaven », « The Ghost In You » et « Heartbreak Beat ».

If you were to dissect the today’s alternative rock music, you’ll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. Bebel Gilberto à la Place des Arts

Née au Brésil dans une famille qui a la musique tatouée sur le cœur, Bebel Gilberto est devenue, en quelques décennies, l’icône de la bossa nova, un genre que son père a contribué à mettre au monde il y a 60 ans cette année et dans lequel elle infuse gaiement de l’électro. Ses fans attendent impatiemment son nouvel opus cette année.

Born in Brazil in a family that is considered musical royalty, Bebel Gilberto went on to become an icon of Bossa Nova, a genre that her father contributed to creating 60 years ago this year, and which she joyfully infuses with electronic beats. Her fans are eagerly anticipating her new album this year.

Le Festival International de Jazz présente Emma Frank

Née et élevée dans la banlieue de Boston, Emma Frank a passé près de dix ans à Montréal, à obtenir un diplôme de littérature à l’université McGill, à servir des tables et à travailler à l’écriture de chansons avant de s’installer à Brooklyn il y a cinq ans. Le troisième album d’Emma Frank, Ocean Av, que Popmatters a qualifié de “chef-d’œuvre mineur” (Will Layman), combinait des sensibilités de jazz moderne et des compositions folkloriques, et mettait en vedette le pianiste Aaron Parks, le batteur Jim Black, le bassiste Rick Rosato et le producteur/guitariste Franky Rousseau. Son quatrième et dernier album, “Come Back”, est une exploration avant folk avec le pianiste Aaron Parks et est produit par Franky Rousseau.

Born and raised outside of Boston, Emma Frank spent almost ten years in Montreal, getting a literature degree at McGill University, waiting tables and working on songwriting before moving to Brooklyn five years ago. Frank’s third album, Ocean Av, which Popmatters described as “a minor masterpiece” (Will Layman), combined modern jazz sensibilities and folk songwriting, and featured pianist Aaron Parks, drummer Jim Black, bassist Rick Rosato and producer/guitarist Franky Rousseau. Her fourth and newest album, “Come Back” , is an avant folk exploration featuring pianist Aaron Parks and produced by Franky Rousseau.

Once Twice Melody est le 8ème album studio de Beach House. Sur cet album, on peut entendre plusieurs types de styles et de structures de chansons. Des chansons sans batterie, des chansons centrées sur la guitare acoustique, des chansons essentiellement électroniques sans guitare, des mélodies errantes et répétitives, des chansons construites autour des sections de cordes. En plus des nouveaux sons, beaucoup de boîtes à rythmes, d’orgues, de claviers et de tonalités que les auditeurs peuvent associer aux précédents disques de Beach House restent présents dans plusieurs des compositions.

Once Twice Melody is the 8th studio album by Beach House Across this album, many types of style and song structures can be heard. Songs without drums, songs centered around acoustic guitar, mostly electronic songs with no guitar, wandering and repetitive melodies, songs built around the string sections. In addition to new sounds, many of the drum machines, organs, keyboards and tones that listeners may associate with previous Beach House records remain present throughout many of the compositions.

Laura Anglade Quartet au Festival International de Jazz

Reconnue par l’émission Ici Musique de Radio Canada comme étant l’une des cinq musiciennes de jazz à surveiller, la chanteuse franco-américaine Laura Anglade est en train de se faire un nom dans le monde du jazz. Le chant de Laura rappelle celui de nombreuses grandes chanteuses traditionnelles du XXe siècle, dont Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn et Blossom Dearie, mais sa voix est unique. Lorsqu’elle s’enfonce avec émotion et éloquence dans un texte, ses capacités à raconter des histoires révèlent une âme au-delà de son âge.

Recognized by Radio Canada’s Ici Musique as one of the top 5 female Jazz musicians to watch out for, French-American singer Laura Anglade is making a name for herself in the Jazz world. Laura’s singing is reminiscent of many of the great traditional vocal stylists of the 20th century including Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn, and Blossom Dearie, but her voice is uniquely her own. As she digs emotionally and eloquently into a lyric, her story-telling abilities portray a soul beyond her years.

Le Festival International de Jazz présente Cadence Weapon

Cadence Weapon est le rappeur, producteur, écrivain et poète Rollie Pemberton, né à Edmonton et basé à Toronto. Son album Parallel World a remporté le Prix de musique Polaris 2021.

Parallel World aborde les thèmes du racisme systémique, de l’inégalité structurelle, du profilage policier, de l’embourgeoisement, des effets omniprésents d’Internet sur nos vies et de l’État de surveillance qui punit les Noirs de manière disproportionnée. Utilisant des éléments de trap, de drill, de grime et d’acid house, Parallel World est la bande-son d’un futur dystopique dans lequel nous nous sommes en quelque sorte retrouvés.

Cadence Weapon is Edmonton-born, Toronto-based rapper, producer, writer and poet Rollie Pemberton. His album Parallel World won the 2021 Polaris Music Prize.

Parallel World touches on themes of systemic racism, structural inequality, police profiling, gentrification, the internet’s pervasive effects on our lives and the surveillance state that disproportionately punishes Black people. Using elements of trap, drill, grime and acid house, Parallel World is the soundtrack for the dystopian future we’ve somehow found ourselves in.

Alors que leur groupe parfait n’existait pas, les membres de SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY ont décidé de le créer eux-mêmes.

Combinant le son grind de l’ère MySpace qu’ils aimaient lorsqu’ils étaient adolescents avec des prises plus modernes sur le genre de la musique lourde, les californiens de SeeYouSpaceCowboy se sont formés en octobre 2016 comme un projet d’indulgence auto-décrit – mais ils se sont depuis élevés pour devenir l’un des groupes les plus excitants de la nouvelle vague de la scène underground.

Ils y sont parvenus non seulement grâce à un son hardcore dévastateur, lourd et dextre, mais aussi grâce au lyrisme acéré de la frontwoman Connie Sgarbossa. L’écriture satirique, ironique et très politique des premiers morceaux du groupe leur a valu l’étiquette de sasscore.

When their perfect band didn’t exist, the members of SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY decided to create it themselves.

Combining the MySpace-era grind sound they loved as teenagers with more modern takes on the heavy music genre, the California-based SeeYouSpaceCowboy formed in October 2016 as a self-described “indulgence project” — but have since risen to become one of the most exciting bands in the underground scene’s new wave.

They’ve done so not only through a devastatingly heavy and dextrous hardcore sound, but also razor-sharp lyricism at the hands of frontwoman Connie Sgarbossa. The satirical, tongue-in-cheek and highly political writing of the band’s early material earned them the genre tag sasscore.

Elle compte à son actif douze albums de compositions originales. 

Pianist and composer Lorraine Desmarais is known in Canada, the USA, Europe, Mexico, China, Indonesia and Africa for her solo, trio and big band performances. She has also appeared with many symphony orchestras. She has twelve albums of original compositions.

Le Festival International de Jazz présente Jacques Shwarz-Bart avec Malika Tirolien

Jacques Schwarz-Bart a été au centre de plusieurs révolutions musicales : la néo soul aux côtés de D’angelo et Erika Badu, le New Jazz en tant que membre fondateur de Roy Hargrove RH Factor. Il a carrément créé deux nouveaux styles en plein essor : Le Gwoka Jazz, et le Voodoo jazz, réunissant la musique de jazz avec ses origines afro-caribéennes et spirituelles. L’écriture impressionniste de Jacques, son ton puissant et son langage large – à la fois lyrique et anguleux – ont alimenté une présence croissante sur la scène mondiale.

Jacques Schwarz-Bart has been at the center of several musical revolutions: neo soul next to D’angelo and Erika Badu, New Jazz as a founding member of Roy Hargrove RH Factor. He outright created two surging new styles: Gwoka Jazz, and Voodoo jazz, reuniting jazz music with its Afro-Caribbean and spiritual origins. Jacques’ impressionistic writing, powerful tone, and wide-ranging language – both lyrical and angular – have fueled a growing presence on the world stage.
