The Nocturne series is dedicated to the more rhythmic and bewitching forms of electronic music with an original and immersive scenography. The Friday Nocturne at MTELUS is known for its refined and powerful techno sound. This year will be no exception with an over-the-top line-up, amplified by a massive sound system.

Aquarian

Que ressent-on lorsqu’on entend Aphex Twin jouer sa propre musique ? « Un mélange d’euphorie et de stupéfaction » note Aquarian, dont les sonorités crues s’imposent de manière frappante et immédiate.

Cora Novoa 

Première femme à remporter le prix de la Meilleure DJ de l’Année en 2017 aux Vicious Music Awards madrilènes, Cora Novoa est également l’une des productrices les plus créatives de son pays. Née en Galicie en Espagne, mais ayant vécu à Berlin, Madrid et Barcelone, Novoa développe son imaginaire créatif à travers la flûte classique, les instrumentaux hip-hop et le graffiti avant de trouver sa voie dans la musique électronique. 

First woman to win Best DJ of the Year in 2017 at Madrid’s Vicious Music Awards, Cora Novoa is also one of her country’s most creative producers. Born in Galicia, Spain, but having lived in Berlin, Madrid and Barcelona, Novoa developed her creative imagination through classical flute, hip-hop instrumentals and graffiti before finding her way into electronic music. 

Nicolas Bougaïeff

Le compositeur et producteur québécois Nicolas Bougaïeff, basé à Berlin, reformule des expressions familières d’EBM selon sa propre vision heuristique, façonnée de multiples couches de textures techno complexes.

Luke Slater, alias Planetary Assault Systems, est un musicien techno britannique, DJ et producteur. Il est l’une des énigmes les plus caméléonesques de la techno mondiale, passant d’une variante à l’autre du genre avec une clarté euphorique.

Tenor saxophonist Benny Sharoni is a bandleader, composer and arranger and is a mainstay on the U.S. and International jazz scenes where he has played with many of today’s jazz greats, including David Hazeltine, Jim Rotondi and George Garzone. Sharoni fuses together classic bop influences of Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and Steve Grossman, and flavors his music with Latin rhythms and an energetic drive.

Le Festival Orientalys présente Youba

Wilco au MTELUS

Le dynamique groupe de rock originaire de Chicago, Wilco, revient avec son 12e album studio, le premier en son genre. Cruel Country est l’exploration par le groupe du style qui l’a souvent défini, mais qu’il n’a jamais pleinement embrassé jusqu’à présent. Le double album comprend 21 titres écrits par Jeff Tweedy, presque entièrement composés de prises live, créées avec les six membres réunis dans The Loft pour la première fois depuis l’album The Whole Love sorti en 2011.

The dynamic Chicago rock band Wilco returns with its 12th studio album, the first of its kind. Cruel Country is the band’s exploration of the genre they’ve often been defined by but, until now, never fully embraced. Derrick Carter au Théâtre Fairmount

Derrick Carter, l’un des piliers de la musique house de Chicago dans les années 90, a commencé à mixer à l’âge de neuf ans, en faisant tourner des disques disco lors de réunions de famille. Né et élevé dans la banlieue de l’ouest, Carter s’intéresse à la musique dès son plus jeune âge, mais c’est pendant son adolescence que la scène house de Chicago l’attire pour de bon. Très vite, Carter est devenu un acteur incontournable de la scène underground de la ville.

Les sets de Derrick sont ancrés dans la house, mais il voyage librement en dehors des goûts des clubs, incorporant de manière transparente le disco old-school, la soul, le jazz et tout ce qui lui passe par la tête.

One of the pinnacles of Chicago house music’s ’90s wave, Derrick Carter began DJ’ing at the age of nine, spinning disco records at family reunions. Born and raised in the western suburbs, Carter was into music from a young age, but during his teens Chicago’s house scene sucked him in for good. Before long Carter became a strong presence in the city’s underground dance scene.

Derrick’s sets are rooted in house, but he freely travels outside club tastes, seamlessly incorporating old-school disco, soul, jazz and whatever catches his fancy.

Jimenez/LeBlanc/Melo présente un répertoire de musique instrumentale brésilienne des années 60 à maintenant ainsi que quelques chansons populaires du Brésil adaptées pour guitare acoustique, contrebasse et percussion.

Rémi-Jean LeBlanc habite Montréal et participe activement à la scène de musique canadienne depuis 2005 en faisant des collaborations avec des musiciens comme Yannick Rieu, Jean-Michel Pilc, Marianne Trudel, Steve Amirault, Carol Welsman, and Elizabeth Shepherd. Les tournées canadiennes et internationales sont fréquentes depuis une dizaine d’années notamment en Europe, en Chine, au Japon, au Mexique et aux États-Unis en plus de se produire régulièrement à Montréal avec des musiciens locaux et des artistes internationaux de passage au Québec tels David Binney, Seamus Blake, Jeff Ballard, Greg Osby, Terri Lyne Carrington, Ari Hoenig, Ben Wendel et Billy Hart.

Jimenez/LeBlanc/Melo presents a repertoire of Brazilian instrumental music from the 60s to now as well as some popular songs from Brazil adapted for acoustic guitar, double bass and percussion.

Montreal-based Rémi-Jean LeBlanc has been active on the Canadian music scene since 2005 and has collaborated with an array of musicians in Montreal and in Canada including Yannick Rieu, Jean-Michel Pilc, Marianne Trudel, Steve Amirault, Carol Welsman, and Elizabeth Shepherd. RJ has also toured with different projects in Europe, China, Japan, Mexico, the US, and Canada and has performed with international artists passing through Montreal such as David Binney, Seamus Blake, Greg Osby, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jeff Ballard, Ari Hoenig, Ben Wendel, and Billy Hart.
