Jean Pierre Zanella Quartet au Dièse Onze

Saxophoniste, compositeur et arrangeur, Jean-Pierre Zanella est très recherché sur la scène musicale du Québec. Zanella crée des liens très forts et a enregistré avec des artistes brésiliens tels que Marcos Valle, Altay Veloso, le groupe Boca Livre et le pianiste Marcos Ariel. Il a d’ailleurs reçu Ordem do Rio Branco du gouvernement brésilien. Il a huit albums solo à son actif, le premier Caminho qui a reçu une nomination Félix (1994), Mystic Infancy récipiendaire du prix Opus pour le meilleur disque de Jazz 98 Puzzle City lui aussi récipiendaire du prix Opus pour le meilleur album de jazz 1999 a reçu une nomination au Juno. Mother tree (2002) a reçu une nomination pour un Juno et un Félix et a gagné un Opus. Récipiendaire du prix SOCAN pour la meilleure composition jazz en 1998. Villa-Lobos & Jobim (2006) a reçu 2 nominations à l’Adisq pour le meilleur disque de jazz dans la catégorie interprétation et meilleur arrangeur. Infinito (2010) a reçu une nomination pour un Félix dans la catégorie jazz création. Son dernier album Quattro Venti a reçu une nomination Félix dans la catégorie album jazz de l’année 2017. Son nouvel Rio Minas a été lancé en avril 2020 a reçu une nomination pour un Félix et un prix Opus. Zanella est le récipiendaire du Prix Oscar Peterson 2011 remis par le Festival de Jazz de Montréal pour sa contribution sur la scène de jazz canadienne.

A saxophonist, composer and arranger, Jean-Pierre Zanella is very much in demand on Quebec’s music scene. He got his Master’s degree in Jazz at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY in 1982. Zanella has developed strong ties and also recorded with Brazilian artists such as Marcos Valle, Altay Veloso, Boca Livre and pianist Marcos Ariel. He has received the honorific Ordem do Rio Branco bestowed by the Brazilian government, and recorded with several instrumentalists from Canada and the US. He has eight solo albums to his credit: Caminho, nominated for a Félix (1994); Mystic Infancy, which received the Opus Award for best jazz album in 1998; Puzzle City, which also won the Opus Award for best jazz album in 1999 in addition to being a Juno nominee; Mother Tree (2002) was also nominated for a Juno and a Félix and won a Opus; 2006 release Villa-Lobos & Jobim was nominated twice as best jazz album, in the Interpretation and Best Arranger categories; and Infinito (2010) was nominated for a Félix in the jazz creation category. Zanella also won the SOCAN award for best jazz composition during the 1998 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.

OSM : Bruce Liu interprète le Second Concerto de Chopin

Le Montréalais Bruce Liu, lauréat du prestigieux Concours de piano Chopin 2021 et vainqueur du Concours OSM 2012, interprétera avec l’Orchestre le Concerto no 2 de Chopin sous la baguette de Dalia Stasevska. La cheffe finlando-ukrainienne diaprera la Maison symphonique de couleurs nordiques avec la mystérieuse Symphonie  no 6 de Sibelius, qui dissimule sous une apparente tranquillité une force intérieure peu commune.

Montrealer Bruce Liu, winner of the prestigious 2021 Chopin Piano Competition and of the 2012 OSM Competition, performs Chopin’s Concerto no. 2 with the Orchestra under the baton of Finnish-Ukrainian conductor Dalia Stasevska. The Maestra will also make the Maison symphonique resonate with Nordic sounds in a performance of Sibelius’ mysterious Symphony no. 6, whose apparent tranquility conceals uncommon inner strength.

The program includes four music-theatre works by composers Jing Wang, Gabo Champagne, Collectif Paramorph and Thais Montanari, as well as a visual work by Ivetta Sunyoung Kang.

Preston Pablo is a 21-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter from Timmins, Ontario. He is most noted as a three-time Juno Award nominee at the Juno Awards of 2023, receiving nods for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Single of the Year for “Flowers Need Rain”, and the Fan Choice Award.

Nils Frahm à la Place des Arts

Lorsqu’il s’agit de définir l’espace entre la musique classique et la musique électronique, presque aucun autre nom n’est mentionné aussi souvent que celui du pianiste, compositeur et producteur basé à Berlin, Nils Frahm. Son approche non conventionnelle d’un instrument séculaire, joué de manière contemplative et intimiste, et son alchimie sonore de textures ambiantes et d’electronica atmosphérique, lui ont valu de nombreux fans à travers le monde. Pour la première fois depuis 2019, il sera de retour sur scène dans le cadre sa tournée mondiale nommée Music For et s’arrêtera à la Salle Wilfrid Pelletier pour une performance exclusive.

When it comes to defining the space between classical and electronic music, hardly any other name is mentioned as often as that of the Berlin-based pianist, composer and producer, Nils Frahm. His unconventional approach to an age-old instrument, played contemplatively and intimately, and his sonic alchemy of ambient textures and atmospheric electronica, have won him many fans around the world. Brel! le spectacle au Théâtre Maisonneuve

Conçu et dirigé par le niçois Gil Marsalla de Directo Productions (Piaf ! le spectacle, Formidable Aznavour, Et Maintenant), il nous offre maintenant Brel! Le spectacle en grande première à Montréal.

Ils sont nombreux à parler de lui comme d’une réincarnation. Sur scène, Olivier Laurent n’imite pas Brel, il est Brel, faisant revivre les textes de ses plus grandes chansons comme si sa vie en dépendait. Avec ce concert déjà joué une centaine de fois devant des publics en liesse ou émus aux larmes, à Paris, New York, Stockholm, Beyrouth, Londres, Dubaï et même Bruxelles, c’est par la voix, la rage, l’ironie et la tendresse que l’artiste rend cet hommage magistral au plus grand chanteur francophone que la Belgique ait connu.

Accompagné de 4 musiciens d’exception, il se donne à corps perdu pour épouser le rythme effréné de La Valse à mille temps, incarne avec fougue et élégance Ces gens-là, Les Vieux ou Les Bigotes. Olivier Laurent nous fait même redécouvrir Voir un ami pleurer issu de l’album Les Marquises, que Jacques Brel, emporté par la maladie, n’aura pas eu le temps de chanter sur scène. Scat CAT Quintet au Dièse Onze

Natif de Rimouski, Claude Arnold Thibault (C.A.T.) est un musicien accompli. Bassiste-chanteur dans divers groupes musicaux, il finit par délaisser la basse pour se consacrer entièrement à la voix dont il découvre les possibilités en tant qu’instrument de musique à l’écoute de Bobby McFerrin. Passionné de jazz vocal, il travaille l’improvisation dans l’exécution de classiques du répertoire, inspiré par les improvisations aussi riches que simples de Chet Baker. Le scat devient sa spécialité, Scat C.A.T. son nom d’artiste. Sa voix est l’un des instruments du groupe au même titre que le saxophone ou la trompette. Il se faufile à travers les accords pour dialoguer avec les autres musiciens, se permettant des solos, tout comme eux. À l’automne 2022, l’artiste authentique et chaleureux lance son premier album entouré de musiciens jazz de haut calibre. Vodova Day est disponible sur toutes les plateformes.

Born in Rimouski, Claude Arnold Thibault (C.A.T.) is an accomplished musician. Bass player and vocalist in various musical groups, he eventually abandoned the bass to devote himself entirely to the the voice, whose possibilities as a musical instrument he discovered while listening to Bobby McFerrin. Passionate about vocal jazz, he honed his improvisation skills by performing jazz standards, inspired by Chet Baker’s simple although extremely rich improvisations. Scat became his specialty, Scat C.A.T. his artist name. His voice is one of the instruments in the band in the same way as a saxophone or a trumpet. He weaves in and out of chords to interact with the other musicians. allowing himself to perform solos, just like them. In the fall 2022, the authentic and warm artist launched his first album, accompanied by high-caliber jazz musicians. Vodova Day is available on all platforms.

Lancement d’album : Hugo Blouin à la Sala Rossa

Le contrebassiste Hugo Blouin compose avec la musicalité de la vie. Son parcours est lié aux scènes jazz et folk, en passant par la chanson, la poésie et la musique actuelle.

Il s’intéresse aux mélodies et aux rythmes trouvés dans les sons concrets, en particulier dans la langue parlée. Un exemple souriant est le projet Charbonneau ou les valeurs à’ bonne place, composé à partir des archives de la commission d’enquête du même nom sur la corruption au Québec. Paru en 2018, le Volume 1 a remporté le prix GAMIQ de l’Album jazz de l’année et le prix OPUS du Concert jazz de l’année. Le Volume 2 paraît en février 2022.

Hugo Blouin a contribué à 25 albums à titre d’interprète, de compositeur et de réalisateur. Actif depuis une quinzaine d’années, son travail a été entendu au Canada, aux États-Unis et au Mexique, ainsi qu’en France, en Suisse, en Belgique, en Pologne et au Ghana. Il vit et travaille à Montréal.

Double bassist Hugo Blouin composes with the musicality of life. His background is linked to the jazz and folk scenes, through song, poetry and musique actuelle.

He is interested in melodies and rhythms found in concrete sounds, especially in spoken language. A smiling example is the project Charbonneau ou les valeurs à’ bonne place, composed from the archives of the commission of inquiry of the same name on corruption in Quebec. Released in 2018, Volume 1 won the GAMIQ award for Jazz Album of the Year and the OPUS award for Jazz Concert of the Year. Volume 2 will be released in February 2022.

Jonna Emily Lee est une chanteuse, compositrice, productrice de disques et réalisatrice visuelle suédoise. Lee est la créatrice et l’artiste du projet audiovisuel en ligne iamamiwhoami qui, depuis 2009, publie ses séries audiovisuelles en ligne, ce qui lui a valu un grand nombre de fans. Depuis son premier album solo, elle a collaboré avec le producteur de musique et artiste Claes Björklund, également membre de iamamiwhoami. En 2017, Lee a commencé à utiliser le moniker ionnalee pour son nouveau projet solo. En février 2018, elle sort son premier album solo, Everyone Afraid to Be Forgotten. Avec l’album, elle a également créé sa propre tournée mondiale cofinancée par ses fans via Kickstarter. La tournée a fait salle comble dans le monde entier en 2018. ionnalee a remixé “The Ceremony of Innocence” de Moby, qui est sorti en décembre 2018, et en février, son deuxième album solo Remember the Future a été annoncé avec la date de sortie du 31 mai 2019.

Jonna Emily Lee is a Swedish singer, songwriter, record producer and visual director. Lee is the creator and artist of audiovisual online project iamamiwhoami who since 2009 have released their audiovisual series online, gathering a huge online following. Since her first solo album, she has collaborated with music producer and artist Claes Björklund who is also a member of iamamiwhoami. In 2017, Lee started using the moniker ionnalee for her new solo project. In February 2018 she released her debut solo album, Everyone Afraid to Be Forgotten. With the album she also created her own world tour co funded by her fans via Kickstarter. The tour sold out their venues all over the world during 2018. ionnalee remixed Moby’s “The Ceremony of Innocence” which was released in December 2018, and in February, her sophomore solo album Remember the Future was announced with the release date 31 May 2019.

Taylor Donaldson Big Band au Dièse Onze

Taylor Donaldson est un membre actif de la scène musicale montréalaise en tant que tromboniste, compositeur, arrangeur et copiste de musique. Il dirige son propre big band de 17 pièces qui interprète ses arrangements et compositions ainsi que ceux des membres du groupe. L’ensemble jumelle des standards de jazz et des compositions originales dans la tradition des grands big bands de jazz.

Taylor Donaldson is an active member of the Montreal music scene, working as a trombonist, composer/arranger and music copyist. He directs his own 17-piece big band that plays from a growing book of his arrangements and compositions, along with music written by other members of the group. The band’s repertoire brings together jazz standards and original compositions in the great tradition of big band jazz.
