Nuits d’Afrique : Lavanya au Club Balattou

Mon 17 Jul 2023 • 08:30 pm Kora
Club Balattou - Montréal 15$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

As far as a meeting of cultures is concerned, Montreal makes the improbable possible. And it’s beautiful. A good example of this is Lavanya Narasiah’s Dharani Project, in which the melodic Carnatic music of southern India and Bengali rhythms are skillfully and intuitively interwoven with West African, Caribbean, Latin American and North American influences. Diely Mori Tounkara’s kora, Josh Fink’s double bass, Subir Dev’s tablas, Jean-Marc Hébert’s guitar and Latin-Caribbean percussions played Daniel Bellegarde all blend beautifully, naturally complementing the velvety voice of the talented singer, who in 2018, captured four Coup de cœur prizes at Vision diversité’s MUZ festival.
