The court of Versailles was one of the few places where women musicians were professionally employed in the Baroque period. The names of Marguerite-Louise and Marguerite-Antoinette Couperin, and Anne-Renée Rebel, can be found in the court papers. However, they rarely signed or published any works, with the rare exception of Élizabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. If you look hard enough, you’ll find a mention here and there of a celebrated harpsichordist, such as Mademoiselle Certain or Marie-Rose Dubois. This harpsichord recital by Mélisande McNabney enters their world and traces their history in music.
