Big Four est un quartet réuni en 2009 à l’initiative du saxophoniste Julien Soro. Le line up singulier de ce quartet à deux vents et deux percussions (saxophone/sousaphone et vibraphone/batterie) révèle dès la première écoute un son de groupe inédit et une palette de timbres rarement exploitée par une telle formation. Les compositions de Julien Soro deviennent au fil du temps un terrain d’exploration collective où la spontanéité et la profusion rythmique sont au centre des débats. Les musiciens de Big Four cherchent cet espace entre conscience et relâchement qui leur permettrait de donner du mouvement au son. Retoucher à cet état enfantin où le « jeu » est omniprésent…

Big Four is a quartet founded in 2009 by saxophonist Julien Soro. The singular line up of this quartet with two wind and two percussion instruments (saxophone/sousaphone and vibraphone/drums) reveals from the very first listen an original group sound and a palette of tones rarely explored by such a group. Julien Soro’s compositions become over time a field of collective exploration where spontaneity and rhythmic profusion are at the centre of the debate. The musicians of Big Four are looking for that space between awareness and relaxation which would allow them to give movement to the sound. Returning to that childlike state where “play” is omnipresent…
