A leading blue-note musician since the beginning of the century, Iyer is responsible many high-level recordings and collaborations. For this album, he’s joined by Trio 3, a group on the border between the avant-garde and Black American free jazz, made up of top-level instrumentalists: Oliver Lake on alto sax, Reggie Workman on bass, and Andrew Cyrille on drums. More than a collaboration, this album is the symbiosis of four virtuosos at the service of the leader’s arrangements. The result is a highly inspired rereading of the free movement.
