Mary Shelley is Brooklyn’s genre-defying punk band known for turning chaos into groove. Fusing post-punk with dance rhythms, disco, shoegaze, hip-hop, and more, their shape-shifting sound channels raw energy and artistic spontaneity. Each track reinvents the band’s sonic identity, refusing formulas in favor of fearless exploration. Their inspirations stretch far and wide—from IDLES, Talking Heads, and Radiohead, to Kendrick Lamar, Dolly Parton, and Viagra Boys. Critics have embraced the band’s intensity and eccentricity: The Deli says their music “will probably make you wanna dance the pogo or smash things,” while Look At My Records! likens their energy to the “(barely) controlled chaos of The Birthday Party” with shades of Mark Mothersbaugh and Jim Morrison “on a triple shot red eye.” Their electrifying live shows have captivated audiences in basements, backyards, and major venues across North America, Europe, and the UK. A 2023 West Coast tour with Gogol Bordello helped elevate their reach, with frontman Eugene Hütz releasing two Mary Shelley songs on his Casa Gogol Records label. With infectious rhythms and irreverent lyrics that probe both human nature and their own absurdities, Mary Shelley offers punk you can dance to—fierce, unpredictable, and undeniably alive.
