Ayrad, c’est la fusion du chanteur, guitariste et compositeur d’origine marocaine Hamza Abouabdelmajid, d’Annick Beauvais (hautbois, chœurs), d’Anit Ghosh (violon), de Marton Maderspach (percussions), de Sylvain Plante (batterie, percussions) et de Gabriel Lajoie (basse, clavier). Avec trois albums en carrière, ces musiciens issus d’horizons différents intègrent différents genres : l’électro, le Gypsy funk, le rock du désert, le raï, la Reggada, le chaâbi, les grooves latins. Leur album homonyme (2014), Zoubida (2018) et III (2022) ont récolté de nombreux prix (ADISQ, OPUS, Canadian Folk Music Awards) et mentions (JUNOS) et ont permis au groupe de donner des concerts à travers le Canada et à l’étranger (Écosse, Qatar, Maroc, Tunisie, France, États-Unis).

Ayrad fuses the talents of musicians hailing from different backgrounds: singer, guitarist and composer of Moroccan origin Hamza Abouabdelmajid, Annick Beauvais (oboe, vocals), Anit Ghosh (violin), Sylvain Plante (drums), Gabriel Brochu-Lajoie (bass, keyboard) and Marton Maderspach (percussions). Integrating rock and pop sounds, their recent album III explores different genres such as electro, Gypsy funk, desert rock, raï, Reggada, chaâbi and even Latin grooves. Galvanized by Hamza’s exceptional voice and his singing in Arabic, the group of seasoned musicians is able to push their songs to the limit, infusing them with an infectious, almost magical energy that leaves no audience indifferent.
Funk Lion, Québécois d’origine Haïtienne, compose ses histoires de quête de l’Eldorado comme un manifeste poétique du déracinement. Avec son « rock fauve et autres psychédélices » qui donne autant dans l’afrobeat du futur que le chant negro-spiritual, le vaudou-funk ou le rock, l’expérience Funk Lion se vit à la manière d’un carnaval psychédélique décomplexé.

Poétique, Groovy, Funk par moment et Soul dans son ensemble, Yao, de sa voix grave, réussit à charmer par l’univers chaleureux de sa douce poésie et par son audace artistique. Son écriture imagée – empreinte d’une très grande sensibilité – nous rappelle la richesse textuelle du rap français de MC Solaar, d’Abdel Malik ou d’Oxmo Puccino, avec un côté pop éclectique – où les univers musicaux se succèdent et s’entrelacent à travers les frasques de ce poète.
