Joe Sullivan Quartet avec Rémi Bolduc au Dièse Onze

Joe Sullivan est originaire de la ville de Timmins, dans le nord de l’Ontario. Il grandit dans une grande famille franco-ontarienne, oû la musique faisait parti des activités quotidiennes. Sa formation musicale débuta au piano durant son enfance et, plus tard, à l’âge de quinze ans, il découvrit la trompette. Sa passion pour la musique lui mena a entreprendre divers activités musicales durant sa jeunesse: il participa à divers concours régionales de musique classique, fut membre de divers groupes de musique populaire et composa de la musique pour des piéces de théâtre. Il reçut son Baccalauréat en trompette classique à l’Université d’Ottawa en 1981. Son désire d’explorer le monde du jazz lui mena ensuite à l’école de musique Berklee, puis au New England Conservatory of Music à Boston, où il obtint une Maîtrise en Interprétation Jazz en 1987.

La même année il s’installe à Montréal. Depuis, il est actif en tant que trompettiste, compositeur, arrangeur, et chef d’orchestre. Compositeur prolifique, il dirige son sextuor, son grand ensemble et participe a divers projets en petites formations. Il compte huit disques compactes à son nom, le plus récent étant  “Unfamiliar Surroundings” (Perry Lake Records 2017) en grand ensemble. Il a été membre du Vic Vogel Big Band pendant une trentaine d’années; il a été soliste avec l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal et le Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; il a joué avec de nombreux artistes renommés y compris Slide Hampton, Don Thompson, Lorne Lofsky, Pat Labarbera, Kirk Macdonald, Rémi Bolduc, John Medeski, John McNeil, Alain Caron, George Garzone, and Ranee Lee.

Il a été récipient du Prix Socan (1991) et du Prix DuMaurier (Joel Miller Group, 1997) au Festival de Jazz de Montréal, ainsi que de plusieurs subventions du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec. Il enseigne présentement l’arrangement et la composition jazz, et dirige le l’Orchestre de Jazz 1 à l’Université McGill, oû il est un professeur agrégé.

Joe Sullivan comes from the Northern Ontario town of Timmins. He grew up in a large franco-ontarian family, where music was a part of daily life. He began his formal training on piano and later, at the age of fifteen, started playing the trumpet. During his youth, he led an active musical life that included classical piano competitions, rock bands and high school concert and stage bands. He also composed music for several theater productions. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical trumpet at the University of Ottawa in 1981. His interest in jazz led him to the Berklee School of Music, then to the New England Conservatory of Music, where he received a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies in 1987.

Since then he has lived in Montreal and has been active as a performer, composer, arranger and bandleader. A prolific composer, Sullivan leads and has written extensively for both his jazz sextet and his jazz Big Band and is active with a variety of small groups. He has eight compact discs to his name, the most recent being “Unfamiliar Surroundings” (Perry Lake Records 2017) with the Joe Sullivan Big Band. He has served as conductor and arranger with the Kirk MacDonald Jazz Orchestra; was been a member of the Vic Vogel Big Band for some thirty years; has appeared as a trumpet soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal; and has performed with numerous jazz artists of international repute, including Slide Hampton, Don Thompson, Lorne Lofsky, Pat Labarbera, Kirk Macdonald, Rémi Bolduc, John Medeski, Alain Caron, George Garzone, and Ranee Lee.

He has received both the Prix Socan (1991) and the Prix DuMaurier (Joel Miller Group, 1997) at the Montreal International Jazz Festival as well as several awards from the Canadian and Québec arts councils. He currently directs the McGill Jazz Orchestra 1 and teaches jazz composition, arranging and trumpet at McGill University, where he is an associate professor.

Pour une nuit seulement à Montréal, Patriarchy jouera avec le groupe londonien M!R!M et Subterranean Lovers, un groupe expérimental et glamour de Vancouver. PREMIÈRE TOURNÉE CANADIENNE ! !!

En pleine ascension sur la scène dark wave et gothique, Patriarchy (Los Angeles) a été remixé par toutes sortes de célébrités musicales, dont Drab Majesty, Geneva Jacuzzi, ADULT, Light Asylum et même des membres de This Mortal Coil et Nitzer Ebb. Ce groupe est en train d’exploser rapidement, alors allez les voir au Bar Le Ritz tant que vous le pouvez !

M!R!M , une synth pop sombre aux mélodies sincères, a été remixée par KVB , Bleib Modern et Korine. Ils seront en tournée avec KVB juste avant de venir au Canada pour cette série de spectacles spéciaux. M!R!M ! a sorti des disques avec Fabrika et Avant ! et a tourné dans toute l’Europe.

Subterranean Lovers est dirigé par l’auteur-compositeur Nikki Nevver (du groupe de synth pop Terror Bird), qui crée des paysages sonores dramatiques avec un gigantesque groupe d’influence glam et expérimentale comprenant des instruments rock et orchestraux. Subterranean Lovers enregistre avec Jordan Koop, un protégé de Steve Albini. Leur dernier single, “Brilliant Things”, a été masterisé par Jason Corbett du groupe Actors.

This band is blowing up quickly, so see them at Bar Le Ritz’s while you can!

M!R!M , dark synth pop with heartfelt melodies has been remixed by KVB , Bleib Modern and Korine. They will be touring with KVB just before coming to Canada for this series of special shows. M!R!M! has released records with Fabrika and Avant! and toured all over Europe.

Subterranean Lovers is led by songwriter Nikki Nevver (of synth pop band Terror Bird), creating dramatic soundscapes with a gigantic glam and experimental influenced band featuring rock and orchestral instruments. Subterranean Lovers records with Jordan Koop, a protege of Steve Albini. Their newest single, “Brilliant Things” was mastered by Jason Corbett of the band Actors.

Anomalie est le projet électronique live de Nicolas Dupuis, claviériste et producteur basé à Montréal.

Ayant atteint une renommée mondiale après la sortie de ses deux EPs, Metropole Part I et Part II, Anomalie a développé une identité musicale distincte et immédiatement reconnaissable. Son style combine de manière innovante une production électronique de pointe, des harmonies jazz et classiques, des compétences virtuoses au clavier, et un groove funk indéniablement brut qui relie le tout. Cela place sa carrière dans une position singulière. Ses signatures publiques incluent un mélange éclectique de grands noms de la musique (Charlie Puth, Chromeo, D Smoke et Snarky Puppy), et sa base de fans est un mélange de la nouvelle scène jazz (Louis Cole, Keifer), de la scène soulful beats (FKJ, Masego, Tom Misch) et de la scène électronique post-dubstep (Griz, Odesza, Opiuo).

Christian Löffler à la SAT

Sur la péninsule de Darss, qui surplombe la côte sud de la mer Baltique, se trouve une cabane en rondins, nichée dans la jungle des bouleaux et des saules environnants. Cette cabane est l’atelier de Christian Loeffler, où il s’enferme pour travailler à la fois sur son art visuel et sur sa musique. Au centre de la pièce se trouve une immense table en chêne, tachetée de peintures à l’huile multicolores, entourée de toiles, de trépieds d’appareils photo, d’outils, de pinceaux. La vue sur la mer est superbe et les larges fenêtres du patio laissent entrer la lumière à l’intérieur, projetant les ombres des feuilles et des branches sur les murs et sur la table. Il y a une petite cheminée qui lui permet de travailler pendant l’hiver, afin qu’il puisse poursuivre son processus créatif introspectif pendant les mois froids également. L’endroit est très élémentaire – travailler, dormir, cuisiner, tout cela dans une seule pièce ; pourtant, ce sont ces paramètres modestes et, d’une certaine manière, rudimentaires qui permettent à Loeffler de faire une musique sincère et honnête, en se concentrant sur l’essentiel.

Located on the Darss peninsular, overlooking the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, is a log cabin, nestled among the jungle-like overgrowth of surrounding birch and willow trees. The cabin is Christian Loeffler’s atelier, where he locks himself up to work on both his visual art und his music. In the centre of the room is a huge oak table, splotched with multicoloured oil paints, surrounded by canvases, cameras tripods, tools, brushes. There’s a great view of the sea, and the wide patio windows allow the light to flood inside, casting shadows of the leaves and branches across the walls and onto the table. There’s a small fireplace which allows him to work during the winter, so that he can continue his introspectiive creative process during the cold months too. The place is very basic – working, sleeping, cooking, all in one room; yet it’s these modest and in some ways rudimentary parameters that allow Loeffler to make sincere and honest music, concentraing on just the essentials.

Transfiguration, starring harpist Valérie Milot and cellist Stéphane Tétreault, is a total concert experience in which its artists are immersed in a digital and cinematographic environment. Audiences will be visually and auditorily captivated by this mise en scène, wherein music is transformed by projected imagery and the dynamics between the two musicians evolve until the final transfiguration.

Avec plus de 6,1 milliards de streams de sa musique et plus de 3,3 millions d’albums et EP vendus dans le monde, Dean a été accueilli dans le Spotify Billions Club pour son tube ‘be alright’, qui compte désormais plus de 3 milliards de streams et a été certifié 11x platine en Australie, triple platine aux États-Unis, platine au Royaume-Uni et platine+ dans 22 autres pays.
En 2019, Dean a donné plus de 200 spectacles dans le monde entier, notamment des spectacles à guichets fermés aux États-Unis et en Australie, ainsi que des festivals majeurs au Royaume-Uni et en Europe. La même année, Lewis s’est produit sur la scène principale du festival Splendour in the Grass et s’est produit lors de la grande finale de l’AFL en Australie. As part of the 9th edition of the “Mois du Sénégal au Canada” and to magnify the cultural diversity and the harmony, the RGSC presents Le Grand Bal de Montréal with Youssou Ndour and the Super Étoile de Dakar and invites all communities to come and dance to Senegalese and African rhythms.
