Leëf has built a reputation for layering all sorts of unconventional and uncompromising beats in the most elegant way. Electro, bass, psychedelic dubs, and the sinuous paths of the improvised – all find their way woven into her lustrous DJ sets.

Leëf s’est forgé une réputation en superposant toutes sortes de rythmes non conventionnels et sans compromis de la manière la plus élégante qui soit. L’électro, la basse, les dubs psychédéliques et les chemins sinueux de l’improvisation se retrouvent tous dans ses DJ sets lustrés.

Djima

In the Kotokoli ethnic group in West Africa, Djima is the name given to a child born on a Friday It’s the middle name that was given to him by his mother from the north of Togo. Having spent his childhood in France and being attached to the discovery of his African origins, Djima seeks to build his multi-identity through musical performance, creating a language that transcends borders and cultures. 

Dans l’ethnie Kotokoli en Afrique de l’Ouest, Djima est le nom donné à un enfant né un vendredi C’est le deuxième prénom qui lui ‘a été donné par sa mère originaire du nord du Togo. Ayant passé son enfance en France et étant attaché à la découverte de ses origines africaines, Djima cherche à construire sa multi-identité à travers la performance musicale, en créant un langage qui transcende les frontières et les cultures.

N/UM

N/UM (pronounced noom) is a New York-based live electronic trio using analog synthesizers and drum machines, guitar and voice in live composition. The trio have come to be regarded as modern pioneers of electronic live music with their fully improvised live sets, featuring the most classic of analog electronic instruments available, mixed with vocals and guitar for a truly genre-bending experience.

N/UM (prononcé noom) est un trio électronique basé à New York qui utilise des synthétiseurs analogiques et des drum machines, la guitare et la voix pour composer en direct. Le trio est considéré comme un pionnier moderne de la musique électronique en direct grâce à ses concerts entièrement improvisés, qui font appel aux instruments électroniques analogiques les plus classiques, mélangés à la voix et à la guitare pour une expérience qui bouscule les genres.

MOK-T

Mok-T is a Montreal-based artist whose music is influenced by the spectrum of Raw House and Dub music. He is commited to building positive, inclusive dancefloor spaces in Montreal rapidly growing community. He also practices digital art with his Isotone studio.

Mok-T est un artiste basé à Montréal qui pratique une musique influencée par le spectre des musiques Raw House et Dub. Il est engagé dans la création d’espaces de danse positifs et inclusifs au sein de la communauté montréalaise en pleine croissance. Il pratique également l’art numérique avec son studio Isotone. 

Isotone

The Isotone collective, based between Quebec and France, explores the creative possibilities of digital arts by blending various artistic skills. Their work, focused on emotion rather than technique, manifests itself through visual, musical and interactive projects.

Le collectif Isotone, basé entre le Québec et la France, explore les possibilités créatives des arts numériques en fusionnant diverses compétences artistiques. Leur travail, axé sur l’émotion plutôt que la technique, se manifeste à travers des projets visuels, musicaux et interactifs.

Cashu

Carolina Schutzer, plus connue sous le nom de DJ Cashu, est une figure essentielle de la scène musicale électronique underground queer de São Paulo. Très engagée, elle utilise sa plateforme pour aborder des questions politiques. Cashu a cofondé le collectif Mamba Negra avec Carneosso afin de décentraliser la scène, créant des espaces inclusifs pour une diversité d’artistes


Carolina Schutzer, aka DJ Cashu, is a vital figure in São Paulo’s queer underground electronic music scene. She uses her platform to address pressing political issues. Cashu co-founded the Mamba Negra collective with Carneosso to decentralize the scene, creating inclusive spaces for diverse artists. 

DJ Hermano

Dj Hermano est originaire du Brésil et réside désormais à Montréal. Il est le créateur d’Íntimas, une fête queer itinérante à Bogotá. En tant que sélecteur et collectionneur de vinyles, sa passion pour la musique l’a conduit à travers la majeure partie du continent, jouant sur les scènes de festivals majeurs, de soirées et de clubs de la région et du monde entier. 

Dj Hermano is originally from Brazil and now lives in Montreal. He is the creator of Íntimas, a traveling queer party in Bogotá. As a vinyl selector and collector, his passion for music has taken him across most of the continent, playing on the line-ups of major festivals, parties & clubs in the region and around the world. 

Ultima Esuna

Ultima Esuna est une conceptrice sonore mexicaine basée à Montréal. Son univers musical est une fusion de productions oniriques et luxuriantes, naviguant entre percussions envoûtantes, éléments latins et sonorités house. S’inspirant de ses racines latino-américaines, sa musique allie harmonieusement le danzón traditionnel et le reggaeton. 

Ultima Esuna is a Montreal-based Mexican sound designer and music composer. Ultima Esuna’s world is a fusion of lush, dreamy productions spanning across dembow, steady drums, alluring percussion, Latin elements, and smooth house sounds. Drawing inspiration from her Latin American heritage, her music seamlessly blends traditional danzón, folklore, and reggaeton.

Clavecin en Concert – Mozart, de la joie à la tristesse

L’œuvre principale de ce concert est le magnifique Quatuor avec piano en sol mineur, K. 478. Le premier mouvement, d’une atmosphère sombre, commence par un thème lapidaire de six notes qui revient sans cesse. Les deux tableaux qui suivent font cependant apparaître une belle lumière. Publiée à l’origine sous le titre « Quatuor pour le Clavecin ou Forte Piano, Violon, Tallie [sic] et Basse », l’écriture de clavier suggère que Mozart destinait sans doute la partie de piano au pianoforte viennois de l’époque. C’est donc la sonorité du superbe pianoforte Graf de la Salle Bourgie qu’on pourra entendre lors du concert.

The central work in this concert is Mozart’s magnificent Piano Quartet in G minor K. 478, originally published as Quartet for Harpsichord or Forte Piano, Violin, Tallie [sic] and Bass. Its darkly atmospheric first movement begins with a concise six-note theme that recurs again and again, and the two that follow flow into a beautiful light. Its keyboard part suggests that Mozart probably intended it for the Viennese fortepiano of the time. It is the superb Graf fortepiano in the Bourgie Hall that will be heard in this concert.

Chants Libres présente Aichingerlieder Remix

Oniriques, mystérieux, les Aichinger lieder de Sandeep Bhagwati semblent s’échapper du réel pour fuir vers une douce transe. Dans l’esprit méditatif des concerts de Mykalle Bielinski, ce remix à Chants Libres met en scène psalmodie, oralité, rituel et arts vivants. Puisant à la liberté éthérée des poésies d’Ilse Aichinger, accompagnées par des bourdons de synthétiseurs et du looping, la voix et la présence de Mykalle Bielinski s’envolent, s’entremêlent et se confondent dans un étrange effet miroir.

Initiés par la directrice artistique Marie-Annick Béliveau, les laboratoires lyrik sont des résidences d’expérimentation qui réunissent des artistes de différentes disciplines pour explorer de nouveaux processus de création en art lyrique.

Dreamlike and mysterious, Sandeep Bhagwati’s Aichinger lieder seemingly escape from reality into a gentle trance-like state. In the meditative spirit of Mykalle Bielinski’s concerts, this Chants Libres remix features psalmody, orality, ritual and the living arts. Drawing on the ethereal freedom of Ilse Aichinger’s poetry, accompanied by synthesiser drones and looping, the voice and presenc of Mykalle Bielinski soar, intermingle and merge in a strange mirroring effect.

Presented in German and French.

Initiated by artistic director Marie-Annick Béliveau, “Laboratoires Lyrik” are experimental residencies, bringing together artists from different disciplines to explore new creative processes in opera.

ARIELLA and Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no. 2

Enjoy a night filled with drama and emotion with this dual program, balancing tradition and renewal. First, pianist Jean-Philippe Sylvestre and the Ensemble Classico-Moderne deliver a spectacular rendition of one of the most popular piano concerto ever written, Rachmaninoff’s 2nd.

The night continues with excerpts from Jaap Nico Hamburger’s ARIELLA, a powerful opera inspired by the novels of Ariella Kornmehl and a libretto by Thomas Beijer. This touching story follows a traditional family, whose world is forever changed upon the death of the family matriarch. As the story unfolds, we witness the heartbreaking reality of love and loss. The daughter, Ariella, is forced to overcome grief. Through her unwavering determination to find purpose, she discovers the courage to embrace her own maturity.

Vous pourrez profiter d’une soirée pleine de drame et d’émotion avec ce double programme, équilibrant tradition et renouveau. Pour débuter, le pianiste Jean-Philippe Sylvestre et l’Ensemble Classico-Moderne livreront une interprétation spectaculaire du 2e concerto pour piano de Rachmaninov.

La soirée se poursuit avec des extraits d’ARIELLA de Jaap Nico Hamburger, un opéra puissant inspiré des romans d’Ariella Kornmehl et un livret de Thomas Beijer. Cette histoire touchante suit une famille traditionnelle, dont le monde est bouleversé à la mort de sa matriarche. Au fil de l’histoire, nous sommes témoins de la réalité déchirante de l’amour et de sa perte.  Ariella, la fille, doit surmonter son chagrin. Grâce à sa détermination inébranlable, elle découvre le courage de trouver sa propre voie vers la maturité.

L’OSM présente le dictateur de Charlie Chaplin

Le dictateur, premier film parlant de Charlie Chaplin, fut en nomination pour cinq Oscars, dont celui de la meilleure musique. Présenté pour la première fois en Amérique du Nord dans une version remastérisée, ce film mi-satirique, mi-humoristique, livre un message d’espoir et de tolérance à travers l’histoire rocambolesque d’un humble barbier juif, sosie du dictateur inspiré par Hitler. La trame sonore originale de Chaplin et Meredith Willson a été restaurée par Timothy Brock.

Charlie Chaplin’s first talkie, The Great Dictator was nominated for five Oscars, including one for Best Original Score. In the first North American screening of its remastered version, this half-satirical, half-comedic film delivers a message of hope and tolerance through the incredible story of a humble Jewish barber and a look-alike dictator based on Hitler. The original soundtrack by Chaplin and Meredith Willson was restored by the guest conductor for the occasion, Timothy Brock.

Bruce Liu et Yannick Nézet-Séguin : Rencontre au sommet

Gagnant du dernier Concours Chopin de Varsovie, le Montréalais Bruce Liu a marqué l’histoire en étant le seul Canadien à remporter cet honneur. Pour son premier concert aux côtés de Yannick Nézet-Séguin, il s’attaque à un répertoire beaucoup plus fougueux : le Concerto pour piano n° 2 de Rachmaninov.

Les premières notes de la saison viendront de l’œuvre de la compositrice Cris Derksen, présentée en première mondiale et qui crée un espace où héritage classique et musique électro côtoient la vision du monde de la nation crie. Sous la direction de Yannick Nézet-Séguin, l’OM poursuit son cycle Sibelius avec la Symphonie n° 2, laquelle puise autant dans la résistance à l’envahisseur que dans le drame de son climat nordique pour offrir une pièce magistrale, où l’atmosphère change en un coup de vent.

Bruce Liu made history at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition for being the first Canadian to be awarded First Prize. Now he’s returning home to tackle more spirited repertoire: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

The first notes of the season will be from composer Cris Derksen. In its world premiere, Derksen’s piece creates a space where classical and electronic music encounter the Cree Nation worldview. Under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the OM will continue its Sibelius symphonic cycle with Symphony No. 2—a masterpiece with tempestuous ambiance, in the spirit of Finnish resistance and dramatic climes.

Emerging from London’s vibrant Windmill scene with their debut album For the first time, Black Country, New Road quickly made inroads as ones to watch in 2021. The album brought an eclectic influence spanning genres and winning critical acclaim across the board, garnering support from both fans and critics, the album was also shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.

Mundial Montreal : Second Moon, Mi’gmafrica, Bruno Capinan et Dumai Dunai

Évoquant le son traditionnel coréen du pansori et mélangé à des instruments occidentaux, Second Moon est un groupe dynamique de 7 membres qui fait des vagues depuis sa formation en 2004. Combinant deux genres musicaux très différents, Second Moon apporte un son unique en fusionnant le Pansori coréen, un style de narration musicale, avec la musique irlandaise en incorporant des instruments tels que le sifflet irlandais, le bodhran et la mandoline. Le groupe s’est fait connaître en 2006 lorsqu’il a été sélectionné pour les prix “Rookie of the Year” et “Record of the Year” aux Korean Music Awards. Second Moon a continué à repousser les limites musicales avec son album Pansori Chunhyangga, qui a remporté le prix “Best Jazz & Crossover” aux Korea Music Awards 2017.

Evoking Korean traditional Pansori sound & mixed with Western instrumentals, Second Moon is a dynamic 7-member band that has been making waves since their formation in 2004. Combining two very different genres of music, Second Moon brings a unique sound as they fuse Korean Pansori, a style of musical storytelling, with Irish music by incorporating instruments like Irish whistle, bodhran & mandolin. The band gained recognition in 2006 when they were selected for “Rookie of the Year” & “Record of the Year” at the Korean Music Awards. Second Moon continued to push musical boundaries with their album Pansori Chunhyangga, which won the “Best Jazz & Crossover” award at the 2017 Korea Music Awards.

Mi’gmafrica, c’est la rencontre musicale entre la culture mandingue, avec Sadio Sissokho, émérite griot du Sénégal, à la kora et au chant, et la culture mi’gmaq, avec Valérie Ivy Hamelin, artiste multidisciplinaire de la Nation micmac de Gespeg, au tambour, à la flûte et au chant. Les mélodies, les chants et les hommages aux anciens s’allient en douceur et puissance, pour vous amener dans les confins de l’histoire de l’humanité. Deux traditions, deux continents, qui puisent leur inspiration et force aux mêmes sources, les racines de la terre et la Création. Ils nous présentent avec magie et beauté, ces chants revisités et des compositions.

Mi’gmafrica is a musical encounter between Mandingo culture, with Senegalese griot Sadio Sissokho on kora and vocals, and Mi’gmaq culture, with multidisciplinary artist Valérie Ivy Hamelin from the Micmac Nation of Gespeg on drums, flute and vocals. Melodies, songs and tributes to the elders combine gently and powerfully to take you to the farthest reaches of human history. Two traditions, two continents, drawing their inspiration and strength from the same sources: the roots of the earth and Creation. They present us with magic and beauty, these revisited songs and compositions.

Formé en 2021 à Montréal, Dumai Dunai a un son éclectique. Avec les grooves profonds du dub et l’énergie du punk rock, ainsi que les styles de chant slaves des chanteurs Natalia Telentso et Eli Camilo, ce groupe a pour mission de vous faire danser. Ce groupe de sept musiciens originaires d’Ukraine, de Bulgarie, du Canada et des États-Unis travaille sur son premier album, dont la sortie est prévue pour 2024.

Formed in 2021 in Montreal, Dumai Dunai has an eclectic sound. Bringing the deep grooves of dub and the energy of punk rock to the Slavic singing styles of lead singers Natalia Telentso and Eli Camilo, this band’s mission is to make you dance. The seven-piece band with members originating from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Canada and the USA is working on their debut album set to be released in 2024.

    Bruno Capinan est un auteur-compositeur-interprète canadien qui fusionne l’afro-futurisme, les rythmes inspirés de la bossa-nova et une performance extravagante en tant qu’acte de résistance queer. Originaire de Bahia, au Brésil, Capinan a présenté sa personnalité féroce sur scène à des publics au Japon, en Afrique, en Europe, en Amérique du Sud et aux États-Unis. Reconnu internationalement en 2016, avec des critiques dans les journaux britannique The Guardian et français Libération, et trois nominations pour la prestigieuse APCA (Association des critiques d’art de São Paulo) pour ses albums “Tara Rara” (2022), “Leão Alado Sem Juba” (2020) et “Real” (2019), Capinan est un artiste de premier plan.

    Bruno Capinan is a Canadian singer-songwriter who fuses Afro-futurism, bossa-nova inspired rhythms, and an extravagant performance as an act of queer resistance. Originally from Bahia, Brazil, Capinan has brought their fierce stage persona to audiences in Japan, Africa, Europe, South America and the United States. Gaining international recognition in 2016, with reviews in british newspaper The Guardian and France’s Libération, and three nominations for the prestigious APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics) for his albums “Tara Rara” (2022), “Leão Alado Sem Juba” (2020) and “Real” (2019).

    Le Sacre du printemps par Rafael Payare

    Rafael Payare donnera le coup d’envoi de la 90e saison de l’OSM avec deux œuvres exceptionnelles. Animé d’une incomparable puissance rythmique, Le sacre du printemps de Stravinsky déploie une farouche énergie à laquelle on ne peut échapper. Une vitalité et une joie presque explosive se manifestent également dans la Messe glagolitique de Janáček. Le Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique de la Maison symphonique, dont on fêtera le 10e anniversaire durant la saison 2023-2024, occupera une place de choix dans cette pièce d’une audacieuse originalité.

    Rafael Payare kicks off the OSM’s 90th season with two amazing works. Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring is driven by an incomparable rhythmic force and fierceness. A comparable quality of explosive joy and vitality is also present in Janáček’sGlagolitic Mass, a boldly original piece featuring the Maison symphonique’s Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique as the OSM celebrates the organ’s 10th anniversary during the 2023-2024 season.

    Lil Tracy au Club Soda

    Chantant avec une cadence spatiale sur des productions généralement atmosphériques, Lil Tracy – connu auparavant sous le nom de Yung Bruh – a été séparément et simultanément classé comme un cloud rapper et un emo rapper. Actif avec une série de sorties underground depuis le début des années 2010, il a élargi son public de manière significative avec des collaborations avec Lil Peep telles que “White Wine” (2016) et le single Hot 100 crossover “Awful Things” (2017). Depuis la mort de son associé Peep, Tracy a continué à construire sa grande discographie solo avec des sorties courtes comme Sinner (2018) et Anarchy (2019).

    Sing-rapping with a spaced-out cadence over generally atmospheric productions, Lil Tracy — known previously as Yung Bruh — has been separately and simultaneously classified as a cloud rapper and an emo rapper. Active with a slew of underground releases since the early 2010s, he expanded his audience significantly with Lil Peep collaborations such as “White Wine” (2016) and the Hot 100 crossover single “Awful Things” (2017). Since the death of close associate Peep, Tracy has continued to build his large solo discography with short-form releases such as Sinner (2018) and Anarchy (2019).

    Speedy Ortiz à la Casa del Popolo

    Speedy Ortiz a fait ses débuts en 2011 en tant que projet solo de la guitariste, compositrice et chanteuse Sadie Dupuis, mais ce projet a rapidement pris de l’ampleur pour devenir un groupe à part entière apprécié dans le monde entier. Le groupe a honoré les scènes des festivals de Bonnaroo à Primavera, a soutenu des artistes héroïques de Foo Fighters à Liz Phair, et a emmené des groupes tels que Mitski et Soccer Mommy sur certaines de leurs premières tournées. En 2016, le groupe a déménagé du Massachusetts à Philadelphie, et le lineup a changé peu de temps après pour inclure le guitariste Andy Molholt (Laser Background, Eric Slick), le bassiste Audrey Zee Whitesides (Mal Blum, Little Waist) et le batteur Joey Doubek (Pinkwash, Downtown Boys). Rabbit Rabbit est le premier album de Speedy à inclure les membres de longue date de la tournée comme contributeurs à part entière, et Dupuis et ses coéquipiers s’enflamment avec imprévisibilité, leur jeu intrépide poussant les chansons dans de nouvelles directions exaltantes.
