McGill Symphony Orchestra at Pollack Hall

Each year, the McGill Symphony Orchestra presents a varied cross-section of orchestral music from early 18th century classics to celebrated contemporary composers. Its home venue is Pollack Hall, but it also performs regularly in venues such as the Église St. Jean-Baptiste and Montreal’s remarkable Maison symphonique. High professional standards are required from every member of the orchestra, since one of its objectives is to prepare young musicians for successful auditions with major orchestras around the globe. Along with two performances each of six concert programs, the MGSO’s annual activities include collaborations with Opera McGill, winners of the School’s concerto competitions, distinguished members of the Schulich School of Music faculty, and with internationally acclaimed artists such as Ida Haendel, Jane Eaglen, Joseph Rouleau and Jane Archibald, among others. Past guest conductors have included prominent figures such as Kent Nagano, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Gordon Gerrard and Mark Wriggelsworth.

Chaque année, l’Orchestre symphonique de McGill présente un éventail varié de musique orchestrale, allant des classiques du début du XVIIIe siècle aux célèbres compositeurs contemporains. Il se produit à la salle Pollack, mais aussi régulièrement à l’église Saint-Jean-Baptiste et à la remarquable Maison symphonique de Montréal. Tous les membres de l’orchestre doivent respecter des normes professionnelles élevées, car l’un des objectifs de l’orchestre est de préparer les jeunes musiciens à passer avec succès des auditions auprès de grands orchestres du monde entier. En plus de deux représentations de chacun des six programmes de concert, les activités annuelles de l’OSGM comprennent des collaborations avec l’Opéra McGill, les lauréats des concours de concerto de l’École, des membres distingués du corps professoral de l’École de musique Schulich et des artistes de renommée internationale comme Ida Haendel, Jane Eaglen, Joseph Rouleau et Jane Archibald, pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns. Parmi les chefs d’orchestre invités par le passé figurent des personnalités telles que Kent Nagano, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Gordon Gerrard et Mark Wriggelsworth.

The LMMC has a proven longstanding history as one of Canada’s top chamber music presenters and a Montreal musical tradition. Founded in 1892 by a group of women amateur musicians, the LMMC continues to offer annual seasons of outstanding chamber music concerts with exceptional performers and a consistently notable repertoire. Horowitz, Gould, Heifetz, Stern, Rampal, Piatigorsky, Tortelier, Ferrier, Forrester, the Alban Berg and Tokyo quartets, the Beaux-Arts and Pennetier-Pasquier-Pidoux Trios, are but a sampling of the world-class musicians who have performed and, in many cases, made their Montreal debuts at the Club.

Le LMMC possède une longue et solide histoire comme l’un des plus importants présentateurs de musique de chambre au Canada et constitue une tradition musicale montréalaise. Fondé en 1892 par un groupe de musiciennes amatrices, le LMMC continue d’offrir chaque année une saison de concerts de musique de chambre remarquable avec des artistes exceptionnels et un répertoire toujours notable. Fuel Junkie Blues Band at Upstairs

Depuis sa formation en 2014, Fuel Junkie s’est révélé comme l’un des artistes en devenir les plus prometteurs de la scène blues montréalaise. Passionné par le blues depuis son plus jeune âge, Mark LeClerc a fondé le groupe avec des amis proches rencontrés lors de ses études musicales. Chanteur et compositeur du groupe, il a eu l’idée d’une section de saxophones mise en valeur par des arrangements modernes.

Ancré dans le blues, Fuel Junkie est aussi fortement influencé par la musique funk et soul. La combinaison d’un trio classique avec trois saxophones donne au groupe son identité unique qui se distingue sur la scène du blues. L’interaction créative entre les membres du groupe pendant les sections solos donne lieu à des moments inattendus et marquants à chaque concert. Le groupe est connu par ses fans pour le flux constant d’énergie et d’authenticité lors de chaque performance.

Since its formation in 2014, Fuel Junkie has revealed itself as one of the most promising upcoming artists on the Montréal blues scene. Passionate about the blues at a very young age, Mark LeClerc founded the group with close friends met during his music studies. Singer and composer of the band, he came up with the idea of a saxophone section brought to the spotlight by modern arrangements.

Grounded in the blues, Fuel Junkie is also strongly influenced by funk and soul music. The combination of a classic trio with three saxophones gives the band its unique identity that stands out on the blues scene. Creative interaction between the band members during solo sections make way for unexpected and standout moments at every concert. The group is known by its fans for the constant flow of energy and authenticity during every performance.

The Schulich School of Music of McGill University is honored to welcome choral director, composer and teacher Karen Burke for a special event as part of its Gospel Festival. The highlight of the festival will be a public workshop on Thursday, February 1 at 7:30pm in Pollack Hall. This event, which marks the start of Black History Month, brings together all Schulich School of Music choirs and is open to the entire Montreal community. Everyone is invited to come and share the joy of singing together!

L’École de musique Schulich de l’Université McGill a l’honneur d’accueillir la directrice de chorale, compositrice et professeure Karen Burke pour un événement spécial dans le cadre de son Festival de gospel. Le point culminant du festival sera un atelier public qui aura lieu le jeudi 1er février à 19h30, à la salle Pollack. Cet événement, qui marque le début du Mois de l’histoire des Noirs, rassemble toutes les chorales de l’École de musique Schulich et est ouvert à l’ensemble de la communauté montréalaise. Tout le monde est invité à venir partager la joie de chanter ensemble !

The rich harmonies created by Trey McLaughlin and the twenty-odd voices that make up The Sounds of Zamar transcend cultural boundaries.

Hailing from Georgia, USA, this authentic gospel ensemble stands out for its eclectic mix of original works combined with stirring arrangements of contemporary musical theater and pop classics – from Shania Twain and Erykah Badu to Stevie Wonder and Prince – giving them a fresh perspective while respecting the essence of the original piece.

Since its inception in 2019, the gospel and neo-soul ensemble has performed around the globe. With The Zamar Experience tour, it will perform in Montreal for the first time on February 2, 2024.

Marie Davidson is an electronic musician, singer, songwriter and DJ from Montreal, Canada. Active for more than a decade, Davidson’s work is characterized by an ever changing sound. She has produced music in a wide range of styles including Club music, ambient, techno, synth pop, rock and spoken poetry. While much of her work is introspective, sometimes qualified as dark and heavy, elements of humor and vulnerability can always be found.

Active depuis plus d’une décennie, le travail de Marie Davidson se caractérise par un son en constante évolution. Elle a produit de la musique dans un large éventail de styles, notamment la musique de club, l’ambient, la techno, la synth pop, le rock et spoken poetry. Bien qu’une grande partie de son travail soit introspectif, parfois qualifié de sombre et lourd, on y trouve toujours des éléments d’humour et de vulnérabilité.

Parading between high and low, Salon Privé is always trying to gain lucidity, digging deeper without necessarily reaching emission, but trying relentlessly, for obvious reasons.nnThe group finds joy in repetition; in industrial territories, out of common zones, sometimes in rhythm, sometimes in confusion, always far from aesthetic and sonic expectations.

Sous le nom de Ducks Ltd., les deux s’épanouissent à la lisière de la jangle pop dynamique et de la power pop entraînante.

Dresser performs lyrically focused art-rock with great care for engaging and impressing their live audience. The three-piece band delivers an impactful and dynamic set that includes both previously released material as well as tracks from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Fuel’.

Dresser est un groupe d’art-rock qui met l’emphase sur les textes et les arrangements foudroyants dans leur musique. Le trio de musiciens ne déçoit jamais, avec des performances intenses et engagées, ils partageront des morceaux de leur prochain album “Fuel” ainsi que plusieurs autres chansons.

Concocting a blissfully eclectic assemblage of ‘60s garage pop, ‘70s guitar riffage and ‘90s DIY style, The Wesleys are an absolute breath of fresh air. Driving, uptempo rock numbers featuring jangly, fuzzy guitar arpeggios and melodic vocal sweeps are abundant on the 2022 EP Outside Voices, The Wesleys are set to release debut LP in the spring of 2024.

Taverne Tour : Suuns, Activity and Dahl at Sala Rossa

Montreal-based experimental rock trio Suuns blend aspects of dark electro, dissonant art rock, and plodding indie rock in a constantly shifting sound. The band toured extensively, and their foggy, amorphous style of song construction grew more sophisticated over the course of albums like 2016’s Hold/Still and 2021’s The Witness.

Le trio montréalais de rock expérimental Suuns mélange des aspects d’électro sombre, d’art rock dissonant et d’indie rock laborieux dans un son en constante évolution. Le groupe a fait de nombreuses tournées et son style brumeux et amorphe de construction de chansons est devenu plus sophistiqué au fil d’albums comme Hold/Still en 2016 et The Witness en 2021.

Activity are an avant four-piece featuring Travis Johnson, and drummer Steve Levine, both from the band Grooms, bassist Bri DiGioia, and guitarist Jess Rees from Russian Baths. Produced by engineer Jeff Berner of Psychic TV, their music forms a casually menacing framework for lyrical themes of paranoia, exposed character flaws, and the broader human capacity for growth when an ugly truth is laid bare.

DahL is an experimental pop outfit based in Montreal who combine elements of 90’s trip hop, post-punk, and art rock in their music. They create a foundation of syncopated rhythm and sonic texture to form fluid structures that find their cadence through space, patience, and story. The past few months they have been releasing singles in preparation for their forthcoming album “That’s It,” due in March 2024.

DahL est un groupe pop expérimental basé à Montréal qui combine des éléments du trip hop des années 90’s, du post-punk et de l’art rock. Ils créent une base de rythme syncopé et de texture sonore pour former des structures fluides qui trouvent leur cadence à travers l’espace, la patience et l’histoire. Ces derniers mois, ils ont sorti des singles en préparation de leur prochain album « That’s It », attendu pour mars 2024.
